  1. i have a lx3 the model before TC and the lx5 came out and i have never seen the need to upgrade.
  2. downrigger weights i would use 13lb torpedos weights they track well and have minimal blow back i would buy temp and speed probe, i think walker is just temp. i have a depth raider, it's going on 4 years with no issues. friends have moor and fish hawk. fish hawk guys will tell you theirs is better because it does not use coated cable so there is less blow back in deep water. i still seem to be able to catch fish with the blow back so you will have to decide for yourself if you think it's worth the added coin. rods i would buy a few different types and see what you like better. i use 7ft med power fast action rods unless i am running meat (cut bait) then i use 8 1/2 ft slow action rods, my friends run 8ft or longer slower action rods. tdr's, heartlands, walkers ect are great cheap rods reels (i will be jumped on by the retentive) but you do not need line counters on rigger sticks, it is really not that hard to tell how far 10 , 20 , 30 feet is (and believe me i fish with a very very very retentive fisherman and we come out the same). i like lever drag reels because of the "strike" setting and they are a smooth reel
  3. i would buy downspeed and temp first. in order of importance for me is my probe gps sonar if you want to create action at your rigger zig zag or change your speed. i would rather have my rods loaded tight in the rigger so i know if i am dragging a shaker then having to leave slack so the rigger can cycle depths

  5. i run stihl oil in mine. it is good oil and already has stabilizer in it.
  6. i used a flyreel for the first time last season. i could take or leave it after trying it once in 25ft i would not use it in more then 10- 15ft ever again for gills in shallow water it's great i use 1 lb test on a reel with no drag, just a clicker and i have never broke off. buy a cheap spool of 50lb or higher test to fill the spool so you have some line pick up
  7. could you put up an uncropped version of that pic otter sled 3 man pop up
  8. i guess it depends on what you are after. i own a trap for when i am fishing alone. i wanted a roomy 3 person hut for when i am fishing with family. i bought it figuring if it's crap i will take it back to costco for refund but i like it and am going to keep it even though my budget was 200 higher. comparing like priced huts it's a nice hut with some down sides. the vents are not covered over from the out side like most huts and it comes with 4 anchors and tie down rope but i am going to upgrade the tie down ropes. the zippers seem good and i tried reasonably hard to break them. the shell looks good and is much heavier then the other cheap hub huts. it has 2 doors, removable windows that also cover over and it's a canadian company in manitoba even if the hut is made i china it you want a top of the line hut buy the eskimo quick fish 4
  9. seriously look at the fishinn from costco. it's the same size and twice the fabric for $204 tax included delivered to your door with a great warrenty http://www.costco.ca/Browse/ProductSet.aspx?Prodid=10352729&whse=BCCA&Ne=4000000&eCat=BCCA|111|22211&N=4010198&Mo=29&No=28&Nr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&cat=22211&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-CA&Sp=C&topnav=
  10. colorado i learned my lessons with a 4ltr ranger and a 6 ltr f350 never to buy ford again.
  11. i own a 2wd with the 2.9 auto and it replaced a 4.3 sonoma. i am towing a 18 alaskan with aluminum floor , 50 honda and 50ltr tank. i dont know what it weighs but it is probably close to yours. you do not have to tow in third like the old sonomas as long as the trany is not hunting. with my boat that means i can tow at 100kph cruise except on hills, towing my sled i can do 115kph. the truck will take 5 ltrs more fuel then a sonoma but has far better fuel economy then the 4.3 when towing at 100kph. not towing the truck smokes the 4.3 for fuel economy. the truck will drive 584km on 53 ltrs. that was doing 115kph manitoulin to parry sound 130kph from there to 9 highway then stop and go on the 400hwy. it does not have the nuts the 4.3 did. you are not going to stomp on it and pass someone like you could with the 4.3.
  12. i use fireline crystal in 4lb for deep erie perch. it's so thin you can scale down on the weight and it will transmit a goby nibble in 65ft. watch for fraying around the knot after an hour or so of catching. best of all for you, you just need a gentle sweep to set the hook.
  13. sometimes it allows for multiple maintenance jobs to be done at once. with the power off it allows for platforms that are not meant to work live line to be used.
  14. it's not a duck
  15. remember you have to sync the carbs after. rebuilding a carb is easy, syncing them not so much.
  16. it's been a great year again for size i had a 500 copper with 700ft of backing get spooled even though we were turning the boat to try and catch it. i tell myself it was 30 plus even though i had spunky 25 take me out 900+ the day before

  19. i like eskimos online parts ordering. my power head bounced out of my holder on the back of my sled and busted up the carb after i had a bungy strap break. i ordered the parts sunday and it was drilling the next weekend.
  20. after broken wrist surgery when the external fixator came off i was icefishing 3 weeks later , heal up a bit and it will be good physio. if you need a auger man just give me a call

  22. because fish can suspend. i have caught crappie 3 ft down over 20 ft of water. having a 10 ft zoom is more important to me though. i find if you can pull the fish up to your lure, perch especially you will keep the school active and around your hole longer. i hated my x67 ice machine and got rid of it, too many interferance problems from other sonars in the area. my hbird 757c works far better on the ice then the x67, and it gives my marcum problems with interference but i can ir it out. i use my lx3 before my 757 because it feels easier to fish with, it is just a personal thing.
  23. as denisk said let your dipsy stream out under drag. if you let it drop too fast they can flip over and start plaining the other way and meet the copper line in the middle (thats a mess). i drop my dipsy first and while thats going out i set my rigger. as for what setting it depends on the situation. at dawn while the fish are active i will have it on setting one. trying to keep my spread tight together to create as much action noise as possible to draw the fish in. then as the day gets later i will drift them out on 3 as the fish get spooky. it's just practice on a 6 rod spread i have run 2 riggers, 2 wire divers deep on 1, 2 braid divers out on 3 running high. i have a 18 alaskan and it's not really different in beam then your boat as for slipping braid in the boards try wrapping the line double in the release or half hitching a elastic on the line then around the release
