  1. I went with my two sons and a friend of theirs from the 15th to the 18 Jan, stayed in one of their cottages and used a day hut. This is the second year with Idle Tyme and we'll be going again next year. The two bedroom cottage had all the amenities other than bring your own sleeping bag, no problem. The ice hut was huge for 4 guys, 10x12 equipped with a sweet wood stove. Friday morning there was a power outage in the local area, packed up all the fixins for breakfast, off to hut and did the cooking out there. No inconvenience what so ever. Friday and Saturday had good numbers of perch, a few herring a couple of small walleye and 3 bite offs, never got to see them, probably pike. Took home 45 perch and 2 herring to smoke. Sunday was a little slower, didn't really mind, we were pretty much fished out. We had a great time, Warren came out and checked on us 3-4 times a day. I would recommend this operator without hesitation. Should have taken a few more pictures but when the lines are going up and down you tend to forget.
  2. Dead stick, #6 hook and minnow and a couple of small splitshot about a foot above, minnow about 6 inches off the bottom, or small 1/4oz jig yellow/orange with a minnow gently jiggled.
  3. There's a Canadian dealer list on the Otter website, however, be prepared to rob a bank first, their price was nuts and shipping crazier. I ordered mine direct from Otter last Friday, here this morning at 11. It is the Ice cabin 2 person model.
  4. I got the first version 2 years ago, works like it says, got it from Tromblys in Orillia.
  5. Canadian Tire=Debbie Travis home fashion center, need nuts&bolts, they're way the hell in the back corner. Go to Marks WORK WEAR, ya, turned into another womens pyjama store, need work clothes, there's one little rack way at the back.
  6. A little 5HP will have you buzzing around the lake like a mad dragonfly. I remember when my youngest got is first free 3HP 2 cylinder Jonson, 1950's vintage, still runs.
  7. A snowmobile close to shore and an ATV further out, but that's yesterdays old news.
  8. Uh oh...step away from that mechanical device and go see Big Cliff.
  9. Without a doubt, either there's a bit of dirt in the main jet and/or the float needle is not opening all the way to let enough gas into the bowl. Another remote possibility is frozen moisture(water) in the the carb, but, with today's gas, that's a far one. As for the impeller running slow, either the belt is toast or you need a slight adjustment on the belt tensioner.
  10. Man, you got that right, don't miss one second of it, now I know when the sun comes up, it's time for "bacon & eggs", your body schedule gets regular, you know at 07:15, it's time to pinch a coil, and when Peter Mansbridge comes, it's bed time.
  11. Dune buggy.
  12. Definitely more interesting than hockey.
  13. I've never encountered any spooking, even wiggling the camera, lights on/off and panning the camera.
  14. I don't think there's any rental huts left in Barrie, Cannings was quitting last spring and I don't know if she sold the business or not. The closest for you would probably be the huts in Lefroy.
  15. Healthy electronics hint, don't use flux on electronics, it will cause corrosion later, use the proper electronics solder.
  16. Yes it can be done, the guys from the Lowrance repair center e-mailed me the paper a few years back, I only need about 4' of wire and wanted to get rid of the rest of the ball of wire flopping around. It's very similar to putting "F" connectors on cable, just working from both sides of the cut. Solder the center lead, cover with liquid insulation, shrink wrap, then do the same with the outer braid, cover with foil, shrinkwrap and coat the ends. So far after 3-4 years that transducer stays mounted on the back of the boat and still working fine.
  17. Ya, you just keep painting yourself with your own paintbrush, leave the smarter ones alone.
  18. When you get on the ice at Gilford by the 2 bait shacks, look across the lake and slightly left(north) towards the 2 towers, head that way to get to the 20-30' areas, about 1/2 to 2/3 way across.
  19. Contestant #1 for 2009 Darwin Awards.
  20. That's a real easy one, go find one of your buds that eats that protein stuff in the 1/2 or 1 gallon plastic containers, the lid screws on tight enough I don't have any spillage. Once you get to the lake, open up and stick the air stone in and turn your pump on. If you can get a second lid, you can poke a hole in to pass the air hose through.
  21. After reading it again, he won't be charging anything of mine. "Batteries like being charge with lots of amps below the point where they boil" man where are you getting your info from? And don't say "I heard it from..."
  22. All I can say is I have a 10 year old RV battery from my trailer and another at least 5-6 years old from my boat, both still going strong. During the off season, they are both hooked up full time from late November to around mid April: http://www.batteryminders.com/batterycharg...io-p-16134.html
  23. Barrie docks should be okay for you, last week people were walking between the first couple rows of docks, A-F, I'd be careful beyond that. Cooks has a good 6+ inches just about everywhere, there was a crowd this morning, colder than a witches hooter with the wind, but, there's a bowl of fillets in the fridge.
  24. I think he was TROLLING and got a couple to bite. If he doesn't know about the seasons, then it's time to read about targeting OOS species.
  25. Entrants for the awards night are lining up again, just can't wait..
