  1. I stayed at Blue Heron resort years ago. Fishing was slow for me and my friend so we got a guide the one day that put me on my PB 28" eye. All we did was drift the shore line with a jig and worm and constantly varied our depths from 10-30'. My friend stayed there the year before we went and he caught some decent pike by trolling.
  2. It is actually "too bad" and not "to bad", wise guy. Edited for Billy Bob.
  3. Take it to a local newspaper journalist. Let them stir it up. That ought to get their attention.
  4. Not sure what your price point is on a rod, but I like to buy anything that is lifetime warranty. If your price point is 80-120 I would go with a Shimano Clarus or Compre. If you really want to splurge and spend 200+ then St Croix Avid or better. Another important thing to keep in mind is customer service if you do happen to break the rod. You want to buy it at a store where they have reps that come by to drop off warrantied rods. I didn't think about this when I bought my St Croix avid, and had to pay 40$ to send it to Wisconsin 6-7 years ago when I broke it. The lifetime warranty has been well worth the extra money for me as I have broken 2 compre's already as well that were replaced under warranty. When the older rod lines get discontinued they do send you the current line of rod. Now if I could just stop breaking my reels when trying to get my lures back when snagged
  5. Any good quality carpet will cost you as much and sometimes more than engineered or hardwood floor. A engineered/hardwood floor will make your home more aesthetically pleasing and add better resale to it as well, not to mention the reduced dust in the house. Something to consider.
  6. A yacht without even a deck to stand on with a group of people? Epic fail if you ask me.
  7. I agree mercman, if you had someone come in that is honest. If their not, the independent tech can just say you needed this, this and this to fix the problem and charge you for all just like the authorized one would. The reason you have him there in the first place is because you don't know how to resolve the issue on your own so its not like you can call him up on it if you think your being charged for too many parts. If you do, they are prepared to tell you what you want to hear. Not to many honest people around these days. Certainly not in my area. I like to do some digging on the internet and try to fix things myself prior to calling a tech. I could have reset my dryer on my own but I kept hitting the wrong button . They handle you differently when they see you have some knowledge. Should of seen the look on his face when I said the name of the sensor to reset.
  8. Maui Jim has real thin arms that are made of titanium on some glasses. They are pricey. See PM for more details.
  9. Its a good thing he doesn't jump in the water when its still cold out. They say their ears can get infected because it takes the water longer to dry in cold conditions. Makes sense. manitoubass2: no issues with the ears on yours? Are they labs?
  10. You didn't insult me at all, just expressing your opinion and experiences in your area. Nothing wrong with that. When I required service I figured if I called an independent tech they would hose me just like Miele would and not to mention chances are they don't know as much as a Miele tech does. Being nice to the tech went a long way for me as I didn't get charged anything even though my warranty was up.
  11. Really? From what I have read on other sites, they didn't seem to care if you cancelled to switch to Start. Consider yourself lucky. Beats having to pay the install fee and modem fee's.
  12. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Does your lab jump in the water from the boat when your not paying attention and don't get a chance to say no? 40-45F water temp sure as heck didn't stop mine from doing so. The bugger jumped in when me and my partner were pulling in our lines and weren't paying attention to her. I found myself having to prevent her from jumping into the water constantly as she was ready to go again any time . It was her first time on the boat though and she was 13 months old at the time. Its in their nature I guess.
  13. Mercman: not sure why your referring to them as "Miele engineers"? They are Miele techs. captpierre: If you want a quality appliance, keep an eye out on that link I provided to you and be patient. I took home my dishwasher, washing machine, and gas dryer all for 45% off which makes it comparable in price to all the other junk brands they sell these days which are made to last max 8 years. The dishwasher was stainless and cost me 800$ tax in if I remember correctly. The warranty on the scratch and dent stuff is 1 year. You would never know its a scratch and dent appliance either and yes I am picky. I had to use a Miele tech once when my dryer exhaust outlet disconnected behind the wall and made the dryer shut off after only a short period of drying (safety feature). It was a simple reset on the dryer which I was not charged for, but could have been. I am brutal for interrogating people who are in the know and I asked him about all my appliances and he did mention that you will get a really long life out of all of them. He recommended not using any dishwasher washing tabs with gel in them as they will eat away the seals. Aside from that he said the dishwashers are bullet proof. I was also told by the person who sold me my dishwasher that she recently had a customer who just bought a dishwasher from her solely because of aesthetics as she got sick of looking at the 20 year old Miele dishwasher she had which has not had a single problem since being purchased. If you are considering one, then call up Miele and see if they have tech's that will come out to your cottage incase maintenance is needed. I know when the tech was at my house he mentioned to me that he does do service calls to cottages in Muskoka mainly for dryers where wild life has entered through the exhaust outlet.
  14. My buddy has a Ridgeline and says he really likes the truck. He did mention that when he towed his boss's bass boat to Simcoe it guzzles but does the task effectively. When not towing he was pleased with the fuel economy. Having been in the truck, it is very roomy, even in the back seat. Be warned, they are expensive. Let me know if you want more details pertaining to this truck and I will inquire with my buddy. I would be calling a few Toyota service manager's to confirm if the V6 in the Rav eats cams like mentioned by one of the previous posters who was told this by a Toyota tech. Have you read any reviews on the Rav from people with high mileage?
  15. You simply can't get the best of both worlds icefisherman. You compromise safety for fuel economy if you tow with a vehicle that is cutting it close to the max tow rating or you spend big money at the pumps if you buy something that can tow the boat with ease. Not sure how well it does on fuel when it tows or how reliable it is but the Cherokee 3.0 CRD might be a good option for you and there should be plenty coming off lease as we speak. It has a benz diesel in it and If I remember correctly its rated to tow 7000lb+ and is rated at 29ish mpg (not towing). Stay far far away from the liberty CRD, the motors were a nightmare. A simple google search will back up what I'm saying. I thought of you yesterday when I saw a Rav4 on the highway and thought, that hatch sure as heck does not have any room for anything. You could barely fit the weeks groceries in the hatch. Something to consider when going on longer trips with the kids. I'm not a big fan of storing anything in the boat when trailering, especially considering I do not have a proper snap on cover.
  16. Glad I could help. See if you can haggle out of paying the $50 installation fee. Tell them there is promotions in my area offering installation for free . You do have to buy a modem though. Check which one you need for the internet package you decide to go with and then look it up on ebay/kijiji to see if you can find it cheaper. Let me know how it goes as I will be signing up soon as well. They just launched this service in our area.
  17. A Miele appliance is hard to beat in my books. If you buy new, they offer 10 year free warranty at the moment. I'm sure that ain't for no reason either. If you don't want to break the bank, keep an eye out on this site every thursday for scratch and dent inventory: http://www.mieleunboxed.ca/ click on inventory list for a list of all their scratch and dent inventory. Discounts range from 25-45% off dependent on the amount of damage. Located at 410/Steeles.
  18. I used to use Fireline but then noticed it frays alot making the diameter appear bigger than advertised. I switched to power pro and haven't looked back since, but yes I do close my eyes and swipe the card at the cash register
  19. Have a look at a new company called Start Communications. They are offering their services in Rogers and Cogeco land. Pricing seems reasonable and faster then Cogeco/Rogers. 16mb/s down 1mb/s up 300gig for 50$/month. I will be signing up soon. http://www.start.ca/services/highspeed
  20. Good read Mike, thanks for sharing.
  21. My 96 4Runner is rated to tow 5000lb. No chance in hell it could actually do it safely. My boat and motor MIGHT weigh only 1500lb and I really feel the boat on the back when towing and especially braking. I wont even get into when I have it loaded for camping. icefisherman: we all know that keeping a safe distance should be practiced when trailering a boat and you will be ok driving mostly any vehicle, but consider yourself lucky that you have never had to brake suddenly and be required to come to a complete stop within a short distance. I don't know about others, but my truck sure as heck swerves to one side due to the weight of the trailer/boat when I brake hard (as light as it is). If your really stuck on the Rav4, get trailer brakes put on your trailer and your gold. PS: friends of mine have a 4 cylinder rav4 and complain that it is a pig on gas, so ensure you inquire on a rav4 forum or something with regard to the realistic fuel economy. My buddy claims it wastes more than his 330 v6 bmw.
  22. Stupid options like this will result in me seeing more of the "Out of a job yet, keep buying foreign" stickers on peoples cars . What were they thinking?
  23. I posted that. Did they carry the deep cycles at the shop as refurb's or did you order a new one? The guy working there is a stand up guy and really knows his stuff. Infact, he admired the fact that I was interrogating him about battery maintenance.
  24. Call all the marinas before you make a decision. I got a 14' EZ loader galvanized for $8XX with led lights while others were quoting 1200$+. Bought mine in Dundas, off Hwy 5.
