The key should be a ground of the ignition system check for a little green wire that should go to the frame. A broken cord is kind of normal in my book. He after all though he was going to get the full amount so he had no time or reason to sabotage the unit. I am not defending the man I just think from the frame of mind you wrote it you might be seeing something that is not there. If I am wrong I am sorry you had to find someone who did not treat you as well as I think you should have been. Take the valium and look for the wire or call him when you are calmer in the morning. An open line of honest communication is your best friend. I would go by the shop and talk to him and see what services you got for the 196.00. He might have been in the project and found an issue and made the decision because you were such a nice guy to keep working instead of pulling out of the job and waiting for your approval. I have people ask me what the price of a job is going to be and most times I will give a rough estimate which is my best guess as to what the price is going to be from the state of the project that I can see before it is disassembled and examined. A broken bolt can account for an hour to free up or worse rethreading/heli coil the item. Did he do something wrong yes he didn't notify you of the over run did you do something wrong yes you do not have a written estimate. Legally a verbal contract is not enforceable while a written contract can not be amended by an oral agreement. I think that you will find that a repairman who wants to continue doing business with you will be flexible on the costs and a good customer will want to pay the repairman a fair wage for the work he did. Best of luck and keep the sugar closer than the vinegar. Art

I will bet that if your motor failed for a reason that might be traced back to this mod. they would be reaching into the box of restrictors they have and reinstall it before sending it in. I am glad the shop is taking care of you and turning a motor into a more powerful motor it has worked for you and the risk to you has been negated by the shop. If Mr.X goes into the garage and does this modification and it damages the motor and then takes it to Yamaha to get it fixed as a warranty issue he will be out of luck. What people do to get one over the big companies is not the same as being O.K. to do. Ask anybody who has played with the computer chip and items in their new truck and blown a major component if they didn't put the original chip back in and remove the modifications they did. I have seen dozens of readouts of trucks that have been "chipped" and modified that people have tried to get warranted. I am not trying to make this an issue I believe everyone has the right to make any mechanical improvements that they want as long as they realize it is their responsibility if it blows. Personally I have accepted the responsibility on some really awesome motors. I took a 60HP 650 2stroke and by remachining the heads, decking the ports, custom exhaust, fuel injected, lightened flywheel making 120 hp and racing it. We were getting 4 to 8 races out of the motors and then rebuilding them or in some cases blowing them up. In jetskiing finish in the top three and you got paid, 4th place just meant you spend a couple hundred for a really great weekend. Best of the day to you Steve Art

It's Back - Spring Bear Hunt - NF
aplumma replied to SmokestackLightnin's topic in General Discussion
Even with a bear season I am not sure I would hunt them. The few times I had Bear meat it just didn't taste good to me. I don't think I would go to the expense to have the hide cured or a head mount because it isn't something that would have a place in my house. Art -
Good to hear the important question is will they do the job and be able to warranty it? I know as marine engines get more and more advanced they are now approaching the state of the art that car engines are at. Something as innocent as changing the air filter to a K&N filter will show up on the computer as a yellow flag because it is operating outside of the parameters that the engines computers normal working range. It doesn't mean it will blow up in this case it means it is adjusting constantly for this new parameter. Normal calculation is that other site+FF= T is changed to AFmod+FF+T and this is calculated for all supported parameters. In some cases this is enough to confuse the system to the point where it resorts to failsafe measures thus losing gains or it can cause it to not be able to supply enough fuel which is a lean burn and you can melt a piston or worse. Don't get me wrong I have built a few motors in my time and I have destroyed a few motors in my time too. Blowing up a $ 800 dollar motor is no big deal but lunching a $8,000 + motor because I saw it on a yuTube video would be tragic. There are 100s of tricks we do to 2 stroke motors that made excellent power with a slightly elevated risk to reliability but when we asked Kawasaki and Yamaha if they would warranty our mod's the company always said no even when it was a Yamaha service Tech that applied for the Warranty. I get more requests to go to the Bass Pro shop than to go to the air and space museum from visiting guests. Art

Rob Ford being grilled this morning by TO city council
aplumma replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I have been very patient on the threads about political issues and I have given some extra latitude here. I will tell you all that you are going to ruin it if you keep with the personal attacks on each other. I have no tolerance for name calling, flaming or baiting. This is a place for you to discuss the issues that are important to you and others with facts, and opinions on your personal view. This is not a place for you to judge others opinions and ridicule there opinions. This is going to force me to either lock posts quickly or start mod Q ing people both actions I don't want to do. We are all intelligent enough to grasp this notion the decision is your alls to make. I will not accept this attitude from here on forward. Art -
ICE its only good use is making your drinks cold....... Art

The engine is programmed with the parameters for a 50 and to modify the airflow the engine is trying to compensate for the excess air with a program set for less air. This will affect the timing, air flow and fuel mapping any of these parameters pushed to far can ruin the engine. It might take something like a 60 min run at full throttle or it could be something a lot less extreme to ruin your engine. For the minimum gain I would not consider this to be a good path to follow Art

The casting spoons I am chucking are between 1 and 3 OZ from a 9FT 4 piece surf rod and a diawa lexa reel. The rod is from here http://www.charkbait.com/cs/csrods-Travel-Rods.htm it is called Toro Tamer Surf Explorer 25 to 30 lb conventional. It fits in my suitcase but can easily be hand carried. I can get it out a good 80 to 100 yards with a shockleader for surf casting and for lesser lures I use a 3 piece breakdown rod with a calcutta 300. Both with 65 lb braid. The best part with the 2 rods is you can make someone elses day when you hand another guest a rod so they can fish too. I also carry 300yds of extra braid because I have been spooled a few times over the years even with the 22lb drag system on the lexa reel. Art

Sorry this is just not the content that I am looking for here at OFC. I locked it so it can gently go to the wayside. Art -
Casting spoons are your best friend. Second is rattle traps both can be cast behind/along the surf line parallel to shore and ripped back in. I also found mushing up some banana makes a great way to attract baitfish to a sabrinka rig. Most of the locals will be thrilled with tackle as basic as a jig head and a few skirts. I usually bring a dozen lures that I don't fish anymore for one reason or another and hand them out to people who are nice and fishing near me. Art

Good to hear at least you brought the "woodsplitter" with you. Art

Thank you again Roy for getting this solved. Art

You should see Roy in action standing in front of that motor with the wind blowing thru his hair and the top of the motor towering over his head. Man it is poetry in motion for sure. Art

Pete check your spam filters to see if they are being filtered. I looked over your settings and they appear to be correct. If you are still having an issue please P.M. me and we will get a work ticket in to IPB. Thanks Art

I remember one year Joe and I went hunting and we both shot deer. Well normally that isn't an issue but we were hunting in a VW Bug. We put both of them in the back seat with a 8 legs standing up. Talk about getting some funny looks when people looked into the windows. It wasn't that we were hidding the deer it is ther isn't any place to strap a deer on the round body. Art
