  1. Stoty I hope you are doing this for laughs and don't really feel that the charters are making money hand over fist. To snub the mate is to hurt someone who makes less than minimum wage and relies on his good performance as to how well he is paid. Would you design web pages for $6.00 an hour and a tip if they are happy with the end product? Thats a pretty big risk since your industry doesn't usually get tips. Their are still a few places were tips are still an acceptable practice such as mate on a boat. If the captain had to pay a flat rate to the mate then it would drive the cost of the trip up and he would not be competitive with the other boats at the marina. The mate would then be a employee with all of the business expenses associated with that. Allot of mates here in the states work only for the tip and a chance to run the boat and finally get their captains licenses. So stiffing the mate is basically telling him he is not doing a job worth rewarding no matter how hard he works to please you. I usually don't tip the captain of a vessel I rely on his good business practices to make a living with my help advertising for a job well done. The mates that work the deck are a different story. I have seen mates that work their butts off to get the rigs out and the fish into the boat and I have seen the ones that do nothing but grump. Guess which one gets the tip. I don't tie the tip into how many fish are brought aboard because it is up to the skipper as to were he is going to fish not the mate. The mate that gets the lines out and changes the baits if they arn't producing gets a good tip. The mate that also is happy, has a few good stories, brings me a bottle of water gets a great tip. It's not about flashing money to say I can buy and sell you it's about making his day as good as he has made yours. It is rare that when I return to a charter the mate does not remember me because I treated him with the respect he earns and a tip that makes his life alittle more profitable. You can also equate this to any place you lodge at it is after all just a land based ship in my opinion. Art
  2. I was wondering what you were doing over their Joe the guy next door is on vacation...... Art
  3. Please PM me if you want me to bring you any deet 100 or as close to it as I can find. I will drop it off for kevin to sell for any donation to the walleye fund over $10.00. The good news is 100 percent of the money including my cost will be going to the walleye fund that Kevin helps run it is a worthwhile project and I hope it does well this year. I noticed last year they added a new airpump which has helped mortality of the fry while they grow. Legal disclaimer: deet 100 can kill you... it also can kill the guy next to you... and even the guy in the boat next to you so use it as directed. Please don't turn this into a debate its up to each person to decide if they need deet that is this strong and read all directions before use. Thanks Art
  4. Jack you can go with Joe but if you want to catch fish you might get into my boat instead. Art
  5. Well the jet outboard is named "Sucks and Blows" because of the propulsion method it uses. The big Boat is Called "Fish and Whistle" after a John Prine song and it seem to be the two things we do on it when you are out in it. Art
  6. darn I was going with the answer.... Blue cheese but then you asked the wrong question..... Art
  7. Congradulations Joey and Paul glad to see that you all are now home owners. I can't help on the question but it looks like you got lots of help else were. Art
  8. So when are you going to get the really big pick up truck to go with that thing. The new motors sure are a thing of beauty bud cant wait to see you/it at lak air this year. Art
  9. nice craftmanship their. Art
  10. The creation of the big 300+ motors are geared for the offshore boats Instead of running 3 200 hp they can run 2 300 hp and save alot in the weight and fuel department. The initial savings are huge having to buy 1 less motor to power the crafts. The new boats are leaning towards the outboard motors because running a set of twin 454 motors usually gets you about .75 mpg while the twin 300+ will double the number to 1.75mpg. Remember most of the time when you are running the big boats the cost of the fuel is nothing compared to the cost of the trip with bait , special equiptment, upkeep and docking being the most expensive part of ownership. 11. Hey maureen does the eyelets on the rod start off at the base bigger than a quarter and get smaller as they go to the tip or are they start off small size of a dime and stay about the same size to the tip? If you can wait for Lak Air I have a few reels laying around that you can have that will fit it depending on what type of reel it needs. Art
  12. They are nice reels Chris I have used them a few times They did have a problem with one of their less expensive units that made them discontinue selling that version. They have decided to move from Thailand to China a few years ago and built a new plant just for the reel industy. Being an import repairs are most likly a little difficult but with All American outdoors behind you you cant go wrong. BTW thats the place that I order the ?pin? reel from in the past. Same offer if you need it. Art
  13. O.K. when does this game stop YF your posts are written as a small child yet you claim to be 16. The posting times you are sending at are during school hours. You have slipped up a number of times in the posts so you need to fade back into the backround and consider your joke as complete. Art
  14. I have been using braid for about 6 years now and it is a great product for what it can do. First of all remember that you have no stretch to it so slow down and use less force when setting the hook. If you do get snagged and wrap it around your hand to pop the line you will usually slice into your hand expecially if they are wet or if it is in a groove of your finger. Their is a suppliment in the spool of braid that gives you a few knots to use I can tie them but do not remember the names. Braid tends to get fuzzy as it is abraided against rocks and things a fuzzy line is a weak line so cut off a few feet just as you do with mono. You may find that if the water is very clear the fish can see the line some people use a mono or flourocarbon leader when the fish are nervous. If you are using a baitcaster and you are still getting birdnests in the mono you will have even a harder time getting the backlash out of the braid. I wont go into the upside of the braid because you have already found out that you like it and as you get comfortable with it you might someday go with it in all of your fishing adventures like I have. 15. Can someone please help me find a link to the current regulations for the Lak Air get together on Lake Nipissing. I have been running around in circles looking at alot of sites that I am not sure pertain to the place we are fishing. Thanks in advance Art
  16. Read this link it will give you an idea on what your depth finder is trying to tell you. The factory settings are a generic broad application setting that does all thing OK but none of the well. depthfinder 101 Art

  22. I think you should have substituted the work LIE for the word answer Bud. At least that would fit better down here now that we have the political race going on..... Art
  23. Catfish tend to school up at the lower water temps between 35 and 50 F degrees. While they are slower to take the bait they still will be happy to cooperate at those temps. As it get warmer they tend to leave deep water and move to their summer haunts like current breaks, points or areas were food is easily ambushed. I haven't fished for bullheads much usually we view them as bait stealing !%@$#$ some people have found them to be quite delicious however I think they eat them because they haven't had a channel cat yet..... bullheads are just to ugly to taste any good.
