Bought a reel from US website, do I need to pay import tax?
aplumma replied to maybo's topic in General Discussion
I checked on the gift thing for you and it is a felony here in the USA called Postal fraud that they are worried about. It would be pretty easy for them to get busted if they marked it on all of the packages going to Canada so you might want to ease up on the anger thinggy. If you can send it to a USA friend they can rebox it and send it forward as a gift. A word of note if you do have something reboxed make sure that it is out of the packing and looks used before they send it out if they send it with papers and a receipt or looking new Canada postal will charge them the duties and tax even if it is marked gift......(yes I did it and yes I made this mistake and the final yes he was charged) Art -

While this comment comes from the USA so how much water it holds up north is unknown. The area designated as a marina is under control and owned/leased by the harbor master or company. They have the burden of making sure that property that is on the leased slips is safe and secure from hazards and trespassing. They have the right to ask anyone that has the potential to affect these burdens to leave the area with the help of local law enforcements help as needed. This also empowers all renters with the same ability to protect the common areas property owned by other renters however they can not press charges as the harbor master can unless it is their own property being burdened. This all goes in the trash if you are lucky enough to go into a marina that is a condo/coop arrangement were the slips and yes the water/land underneath it are surveyed and taxed by the county. This arrangement is popular down here with the common area supported by the owners per slip arrangement. "No fishing" signs are not needed since it is a recognized owned structure that you are entering in too. This is not like a dock that is on the water behind the house on the lake because it is the primary structure and it's sole purpose is to house the owned property not just as an access point. I can say I am one of the people that ask you not to fish the marina because of a few people that have. Dinged the gelcoat on boats with their crankbaits, left lures hung up in covers and ropes, banged into boats to recover lures from ropes and covers, urinated on boats, left stripped line in the marina and even cleaned fish on the docks and left the blood and small parts behind. I am sure that if someones kids were misbehaving in a parking lot you would get it stopped really quick. With over 95% of the people who do respect the boats it is still the 5% who are ruining everyones chance. I am a fisherman also so I suffer with the rest of you so police your brothers and someday we might be able to fish the marina's . Art

Here is a link to the product prep and primer that I used on my 28ft aluminum boat that sits in a marina 24/7.interlux primer You can also find paint info for any color you want to paint the boat at the same website just go to their home page. The top paint that I used was interlux33 but you don't need such a special paint because your boat does not need antifouling applied since it does not live in water. This primer and paint combo will give you a lifetime of bonding and it will help seal any minor rivet leaks as well. I used a pressure washer on my boat and then garnet sandblaster to finish off the tough spots. If you sand do not burn the rivets with the sander best to use the product Wayne suggested I am sure that he has stripped alot of aluminum during his aircraft restorations. Do you all have a product called Aircraft stripper in the aerosol can??? I use it alot when I am stripping old paint and powdercoating from metal. A little pricey for doing a whole boat but it would be great for spot shooting the areas that did not strip the first time with only a 10 min waiting time. Art

John if you make it to Virginia I take you out on a boat with twin 318's for some really big Blue cats. The PB on it so far is 54 lbs with a total PB day of 1200 lbs. Art

I found that if you want to catch more cats you should switch to circle hooks. The important thing to remember is not to set the hook but to sweep the rod with a slow steady pull. I have found that when using bait and a circle hook that the cats will mostly pick up the bait and move away with the bait in their mouth. As they leave they are crushing the bait to kill it and as the line tightens it pulls the hook up into the corner of the mouth. You will find it is an easy release and more hook-ups just remember if you set a circle hook you will pop it out of their mouths. If you are going for channel cats use a fresh bait either chicken livers or cut bait. The smaller fish will go for the stink baits but as they get bigger they are used to eating fish they are meat eaters and a 10 lb fish will eat a bait that is 4 inches with ease. I use shad here for the big Blue cats and use baits up to 10 inches for the 40-50 lb fish.... Art

Anyone own a Dodge Ram 1500? or have owned one?
aplumma replied to Mattones's topic in General Discussion
good for you I have been a dodge fan for years. I have had all of the big brand name trucks and if it wasn't for my love for Nissan I would still be driving a Dodge pick up truck. I would check to see if the truck has synthetic lubricant in it.... if not I would change it after a few thousand miles I am sure the motorheads will sing the praises of the liquid gold. P.S. if the tires are spinning then the engines drinkin..... Art -

I have played around with a few of the 70 and 80's cars and in their day they were fast but give me a 2000+ and then we can talk about lots of HP with minimum weight. I would say though if I am looking to be noticed I love the body lines of the older cars though. Art

Some of the tubspouts have a lift knob on the end that when you divert it it will cause a loud squeel noise. If thats the case then replacing the spout should be the answer. You may also find that the showerhead is the noise maker if it is a massage type but that is rare.... You can switch the head with another one in the house to test it. Art
