Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
aplumma replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
Until the cottage owners that feel they own the lake and the fishermen that feel they own the lake are both banned from the lake it will always be the same argument. I am on both sides of this story the slip that my 28ft boat lives in is owned with a deed same as your house and I have had lures bounced off the boat with paint damage and stranded lures left in the lines. I have had different reactions from the fisherman from dang I lost my lure to can I make this right with you. I have also been the fisherman who has fished a dock and left a lure behind or hit a boat with a lure. At that point it becomes a prospective thing in 5 minutes will it make a difference in my life? If I say anything will it change the outcome? If the answer is YES then go ahead and say something but make sure your motive is positive and not something you say because you decided to spearhead the campaign to be the self elected spokesman( I.E. an asshat) for either side. Most of the time the answer is NO so let it lay... your blood pressure will lower alot quicker if you don't escalate the situation past the point of common sense. You also have to keep in mind that people get killed for just flipping the bird in traffic to the wrong person. The same could happen between the cottager and the fisherman after all life is to short...to intentionally aggravate yourself. Art -
Sometimes it seems that people no matter what the conversation starter is will decide it is easier to not acknowledge the spoken greeting if they do not have the ability to continue it past the starting point. The Spanish speaking community down here are not all bi lingual and I am very limited in my Spanish so at times they will pretend to not hear me or chose to ignore my attempt of communication to prevent the awkwardness of the situation. I personally feel it is wrong not to say hello back and then smile and wave to any person no matter what the barriers are. It does not sound like this is the case for your situation but it is an easier to accept answer than they were being plain out right rude... Art

While it is a fine unit the X series means it does not have the gps ability like the hds5 which does. If you have the funds upgrading to the hds7 makes the split screen much easier to read being bigger. If the X series is good enough then the 5's screen is large enough. I am running the hds7 with the lss-1 module and I am very happy with the way it preforms. Take the time to learn the unit and how to adjust it manually you will be amazed at what you can see... Art

We had a buddy of ours that gets sick every time we go fishin on big water so we make him eat anchovies the night before. Seriously though you can also check for a medication called (promethazine) it is an antinausea drug that your doctor can prescribe it also has other medical value and a search will give you the precautions to see if it is for you. From the reports that have come out of Lloyd's customers I would be hard pressed to argue with HH n Roy. We down here in Virginia have a lot of guide services but we have few lodges. You will usually have to use a hotel ($$$) plus a guide ($$$)both are expensive but they are needed to have a great trip. If it is something that you would like to go for I suggest you think Saltwater the fish varieties are huge and it is something that Canada can not offer easily. Art

With a light load you can get away with doing the wrong thing but as a rule use the correct tire they are made entirely different and if you have a blowout and go for an insurance claim it can be denied. Here is a laymans guide to the difference between road tires and trailer tires. (Cut and pasted from Taskmaster) Special Trailer Tires Vs Passenger Tires There are distinct differences in the way passenger tires and trailer tires are designed, engineered, and constructed. There are also differences in the service requirements between the tires on your car or truck and those on your trailer. Traction, or grip, is a key element in the design of passenger tires. Traction moves your car or truck down the road. Traction allows you to stop, turn and swerve, and traction also gives you the ability to tow your trailer. Another important consideration in passenger tire design is “ride”. Ride, traction, and handling are all achieved in passenger tire designs by adding flex in the sidewall. By making the sidewall more flexible, tire engineers maximize tread contact with the road, thus increasing traction and allowing the driver to maintain better control over the vehicle. Traction is only a factor on trailers equipped with brakes, during braking operations, because trailers are followers. In fact, sidewall flexing in a trailer application is a negative. Sidewall flexing on trailers carrying heavy loads; trailers with high vertical side loads (enclosed/travel trailers); or trailers with light tongue weights, is a primary cause of trailer sway. Automotive radial tires with their flexible sidewalls notably accentuate trailer sway problems. The stiffer sidewalls and higher operating pressures common with Special Trailer (ST) tires helps control and reduce the occurrence of trailer sway. Bottom line, trailers are more stable and pull better on tires designed specifically for trailer use. For trailer use, it is important to match the tires to the application and payload. Since Special Trailer (ST) tires are constructed with more and heavier materials, they are tougher and more bruise resistant than typical passenger tires. This is a plus because trailer suspension systems are generally stiffer and less sophisticated than automotive suspension systems. A tire designed to operate in the more demanding trailer environment will provide end users a longer service life and withstand the added abuse tires on a trailer experience. Bias ply Special Trailer tire technology has been moving trailers around America for nearly 30 years, and more recently, the ST Radial arrived on the scene providing the same durability and dependability in a radial trailer tire. For many trailer buyers, tire decisions are purely price based. The allure of an equal price and the word “radial” for that price draws some customers to the passenger tire. Taskmaster hopes this explanation of the differences will help you make a more informed decision on your next trailer tire purchase.

Paul it is an indication that the transducer has sent out a signal and not received or understood the reflection. With a soft rag with soap and water wash the face of the transducer. Check that the transducer is level with the boat and facing 90 degrees while sitting in the water. Clean the contacts between the transducer and the monitor unit. You also might notice that you lose the bottom when you are traveling at a faster speed if that is the case then the transducer needs to be moved to a new location. The final thing is when it starts flashing see if it is a consistent number it flashes in rare cases I have seen were the head unit has a glitch and need to be refreshed from the download site of lowrance. Since it brings in a little money to pay for the bandwidth and software it is a small price to pay for a free members forum. I would actually vote for a few more ads if it would fund something for all of the time the mods put into this place. Since that will not happen I guess they will have to make do with a Thanks for a good job and a hearty handshake. Art

Yea that danged Obama...NOT that this issue was well in place before him. While you hold no respect for The President Of The United States the opinion you have stated is called Flaming and Bashing both are illegal on this Forum.Editing of your post will go far if you want to earn any respect from others reading your future posts. A thought is any of the liquid surface treatments will be scratched off quickly if you haul things in it. Your next replacement might be with rough cut oak or other hardwood for a longer life. Art

Your battery is not the same as a lithium battery it does not need to be discharged fully to correct a memory issue. A proper way to get the best life from the battery is to discharge it with your natural fishin trip and then recharge it as soon as you can with a 3 stage charger. A full battery does not have a negative chemical reaction going and does not shorten its life. Keeping the battery on an approved charger plugged in will keep it fully charged and ready for action. Hey Carol the life of a battery is shortened by being left in a discharged state and by shock and vibration. As mentioned the further back in the boat the batteries are the less pounding they will receive. That said the further away from the trolling motor the batteries are the heavier the wire needs to be to prevent excessive amp drop and heat. My batteries are 17ft away from the trolling motor and uses a #6 wire (about the size of your pinky) to prevent the issues of heat and amp drop. Most of the time my batteries are 4-6 years old before replacing them with fresh ones. The other death of a battery is leaving it in a discharged state. You need to get into the habit of every time you use the boat and get home plug in the charger before you go do anything else. My boats all have auto charge systems so it is get home plug them in and then forget about them till the next time I go fishing. Checking the fluids is vital to seeing what the health of your charger/batteries are. A charger that is malfunctioning will boil off the water in the batteries and in short time cook them so make sure your charger has a trickle charge sensor that will slow the charge rate as it becomes charged and cut off when it is fully charged. Actually dynamite is a lot of fun to fish with just make sure your not doing it in an aluminum boat and have your feet on the floor or butt on seat it really stings.( disclaimer I may or may not have done this before in my life) Art -

I am having the same experience here with the snakeheads.Eight years ago they were released 4 years ago they are established 1 year ago I started fishing for them and now I prefer them over the bass. I am truly sorry they were added to our waters but since we don't as a rule eat bass or snakeheads it has proven to be a most worth adversary and the fight is outstanding. The doom and gloom that was expected has not shown up and it seem to be just another glitch in the food chain for us to use as sport or food if you want to eat such an ugly fish. Art
