I don't feel like you are being ripped off. I am not a marine mechanic but I am in a similar field....plumbing. You have to look at the whole picture...Their is a lot of overhead in the shop and the tools and parts on hand. You figure if the job takes just 4 hours which is a reasonable amount of time for a diagnostic plus work and test time. That is $100.oo per hour to pay the mechanic, secretary, shop overhead, rent, accountant and taxes that's before the profit is realized. The mechanic has a lot of time invested in his education and his tools he deserves to make a good wage for his efforts. I bet once you understand what they had to do to make your motor run correctly you will feel better with the price. Art

A Simple solution to the Gulf Oil Spill
aplumma replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Sorry what looks like a simple solution actually is not. If you want to help shave your head and send the hair down to the Gulf it will absorb even more oil and will not sink when water logged. As far as using chemicals to collect chemicals being bad... remember even organic matter is made up of chemicals. The spill is a tough issue that we are dealing with and between the politics and the misinformation it is going to prove to have long term repercussions and then we get to try to restore the waters back to their former glory. At this point a prayer for the people impacted by this disaster and a donation to the organizations that are helping will do more than any amount of hay or hair. Art -
What a great time gent's I am glad to see that the Bernie tradition lives on for another year. Good to see Spiel out and about even though every picture is of him sitting down... I hope the neck is doing a little better buddy. Art

Sometimes around here even my 28ft x 11ft 8000 lb boat gets waked by the bigger boats as they ply the legal buoy paths from the ocean to Washington D.C. Once a boat gets to be a certain size ( not trailer able) it is tough to jump on and off plane for boats that should not be on large bodies of water. I am referring to places were you can not see from shore to shore. I will come off plane for any boat that I will cause to be in distress by my actions but will also clue them in to how unsafe an environment they are playing in. This has nothing to do with the area you described and going on and off plane is expected and should be done. Art

While this is a good way to catch the gar please make sure you remove all of the material before releasing them otherwise they will starve to death. Art

A delta plow is good for soft bottoms and weeds. It will hold in rocks also but it can slip if their are waves. I use a 27 lb one for a 28ft 7000 lb boat with no issues in 3ft waves so far. Art

Now that you have reduced your rod count by TWO you should be able to add one back to the stable right? You can call Spiel and talk to him about a custom replacement I can vouch for the builds they are exactly what you want and they are top of the line. Art

Good information I didn't know that. I have never had a chance to use a centrepin. I have used flyrods for catfish, A shimano 1000 for bonita, and currently use 9ft trolling rods for 50lb+ Blue cats. Using different equipment makes fishing interesting as long as you keep in mind that you shouldn't exhaust the fish if you are going to release them. Art

I feel it is a fine chemical I have used for years with no ill effects and have even found it makes it easy to read after dark with the lovely green glow... deetonline.com QUOTED: Like anything else, insect repellents work best when used properly. ALWAYS FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS - Labels are written based on scientific research and government regulations to ensure they are accurate and easy to understand. What is the best way to apply DEET-based insect repellents? Do · Apply to all exposed skin areas and/or clothing as directed on the product label. Use aerosols and pump sprays for skin and for treating clothing. These products provide even application. · Use liquids, creams, lotions, towelettes or sticks to apply more precisely to exposed skin. · After your outdoor activity, wash repellent-treated skin with soap and water. · Always keep insect repellents out of the reach of children. Adults should apply repellent on younger children. · Consult with a physician or nurse in case of a rash or other adverse reaction, after first washing off the skin where a repellent was applied. Don't · Don't apply to eyes, lips or mouth or over cuts, wounds or irritated skin. · Don't over apply or saturate skin or clothing. · Don't apply to skin under clothing. · Don't apply more frequently than directed on the product label. I think you will be back as soon as you see the HD series. It has a 120 degree beam now which works well when you are looking at the world below. I did miss the 20 degree transducers when I was looking for bottom structure though they are still the best for following underwater ridges and fast changing bottoms. I then added the LSS-1 unit to the unit and since it works on the 800/455 khz and is a flat beam and not a cone it has shown me an entirely different world below.I learned that the unit used in the lss-1 mode paints a picture that is as clear as an xray of what is going on below you.
