The first thing I like to do with my baitcasters is, after I put new line on at home I go out in the boat, put a lure on and let some line out and reel it in. This way the line is tight on your spool and I find it's easy to pull my backlashes out when I do this.
Lew, I'd recommend picking up a keel guard for the front of the boat, I'm not sure if BPS stocks them , if you want one you might have to order from the states.
there was a booth there showing all the colours and the different styles, they have really expanded their product line. They had some new rattlin raps that looked like crayfish that were pretty cool, they also had some shallow running lures that looked like a wake bait that was nice.
Musky fishermen from Dubai , That whole shoreline is pretty shallow, they would have to go 1/2 way to Methodist Island to get in 9 feet of water ,it will be interesting to see how far they bring the shoreline out.
I tow with a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with a 3.5l engine and find that I use 30% more fuel while towing. I've seen trucks passing me on the highway doing 120kmh and would hate to see there gas bill ,I'm the guy putting along in the slow lane.
for small fishing boats and small bowriders I'd go outboard .it's easier to take a look back at your motor if you're going into shallow or rocky waters.
Plus they are easier to maintain yourself.
I had an old omc (1980) and it was taking on water and found out an animal had chewed the rubber boot and water was getting in thru the hole, , I was told they changed the rubber composite so the muskrats would stay away from them. It had a 4 cylinder that was great on gas.
I'd recommend you take the boat home during daylight hours and get it looked at on Saturday, I think you'll have a hard time getting someone to look at it Friday after 5 pm. I have never delt with them but Hastings Marine deals with Yamaha and they are not far from Port Hope.
One of his best shows was when he went into a home in a newer subdivision and the poured concrete was eroding in a couple of spots, they tested the strength of the concrete which was supposed to be 15 and found it to be 7-8 , which explained why it was erroding.
Stoty give Paul at Top Gun Marine a call and ask him about that motor and what to look for. Maybe ask him what it would cost to have one of his mechanics check it out or maybe he knows someone in the area the boat is located.
