You're supposed to buy your wife jewellery? Dang! too late now! LOL

Do they actually clean those fish on the water? I believe the ones here take them back to their facility for cleaning? Undersized fish, non targeted species are thrown back? and some may not survive?

Here in the states there are only a few companies that make car batteries, and they " brand " them for other sellers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_hemorrhagic_septicemia " Transmission VHSV can be spread from fish to fish through water transfer, as well as through contaminated eggs,[3] and bait fish from infected waters.[41] The emerald shiner is a particularly popular bait fish in the Great Lakes region, and is among the species afflicted.[42] Survivors of the disease can become lifelong carriers of the virus, contaminating water with urine, sperm, and ovarian fluids.[1] The virus has been shown to survive two freeze/thaw cycles in a conventional freezer, suggesting both live and frozen bait could be a transmission vector. In Europe, the gray heron has spread the virus, but it does so mechanically; the virus is apparently inactive in the digestive tract of birds.[2] " They may be trying to prevent the spread of this? If the virus can survive 2 freeze thaw cycles in a conventional freezer? In pictures here of Lake Erie fish die offs there always seems to be Emerald Shiners in the pics, better not to use fish or parts for chum?

Cold front moved in, bite turned off.

Dang! Fish can feel a cold front thru the ice? LOL -
Norm they have trouble here finding Emerald Shiners at times, they still sell the bottled ones.

LOL, I saw a video of a guy baiting his minnow traps with pieces of bar s hot dogs, nice to see that something would eat them!

As the crow flies it doesn't seem like we are that far south of you John. This has been about the coldest stretch of winter here and they have had to rescue 3 people ice fishing here in the last couple of weeks, and a guy died after going thru the ice trying to rescue his dog a couple miles away. Be careful out there!

Putting things in perspective.

I grew up at the tail end of the Polio epidemic, there were 3-4 kids I went to school with that had varying degrees of disability from it and others with family members laying in a iron lung somewhere. You didn't hear anyone complaining about waiting in line at the neighborhood schools for whole families to get their shots to prevent it. Smallpox vaccine? You got you shot or no school for you? -
Evidently they make them in a couple of hook configurations? https://www.tackledirect.com/livetarget-gss200ms704-golden-shiner-swimbait.html

" Where I fish on Erie the perch are really slowing down because of the walleye. " I don't believe the walleye are a major factor? They still net Perch on this side of the lake commercially, that may affect the population more?

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Falcon_Rods/catpage-FALCON.html I am just assuming since you are fishing out of a yak you aren't fishing out in wide open waters? I could fish the wide open waters of Lake Erie and a medium action rod was about all I needed, but get around cover? weeds, wood and such and a little heavier action rod seemed like a better plan for me.
