Old enough to remember the Herter`s catalogs, used to get one every year, might have been how Bass Pro Shops got their start with the business from them? Shipping charges from the States makes some of the prices not such a deal and there seems to be a bit of a delay with cross border shipments. Probably best to buy locally if you can. I had phone numbers for places with deals on hooks, but 1000 quantity minimums. also for a couple places that made limited pour jig molds out of silicone? Good for like 1000 pours, a custom mold that would duplicate one style of jig head if you had one to send them. Doesn`t hurt to call some companies direct, some will work with you if stuff they sell doesn`t have a distributor in your area. Most of the molds I have used were Do-it`s good quality to them never any problems with the molds.

If you spend 1,000 dollars a day one million will last almost 3 years, don`t worry about it with a billion spending at the same rate, you won`t live long enough to spend it all. Pretty sad when the people that write the tax code have to see a tax man to get theirs done? Dang if we had thought this up we might be in Washington or Ottawa? Great work if you can get it? Make other people give you money so you can spend it? All while wearing a suit and tie and not getting your hands dirty? Now if they can figure out how to get people that don`t have jobs to pay taxes? A perfect system?

LOL, and then there is this? http://www.bigbitebaits.com/badboy.htm

Good price I guess, even in the US 2009 catalog it is listed at 249.99. Might be a lot of sales this year if buying slows.

New Messiah to wave his magic wand? While I don`t disagree with some of his points, this is sort of typical from a member of the party of Bush down here, especially one with political ambitions in his party. Dude is a salesman pandering to his base. The old Messiah is leaving office with an approval rating just in the 25% range, a basket case of an economy handed to our new Messiah, no clear schematic on how to assemble the pieces, a couple of ongoing wars not started by him, and everyone expects immediate results, forget the events of the last 8 years or the cause. Independent voter and I am still waiting to see some one from either party that has all the right answers, continue to whine about the auto workers while Madoff with the money wanders around freely. Has checks for 173 million ready to be sent out to family and friends(of other peoples money?) 1+ million in jewelry ready to be mailed out? and a little more regulation isn`t in order?

Nice fish!

Cool video! I used to fish a water filled limestone quarry years ago, the guy that ran it had a a little bait shop tackle store in a garage at the waters edge. He didn`t open till like 7 am and we would be there early to wait for him to watch him feed the fish with the dead minnows out of his minnow tanks. They knew his footsteps, you could walk by the ledge to the water and not see a fish, but let him walk to the edge and they were right there. Put a minnow on a hook there and all that happened would be bluegills picking the eyes out. Worst place on the quarry to fish.

Just a different view, don`t know if having just a few big companies controlling the market and products offered is a good thing. Might become more of what they want to sell you than what you want to buy. Makes it easier for them to control pricing.

Like Raf says, valve cover gasket is under that, engine head, holds the valve assembly, possibly a camshaft or two, head gasket is between the engine block and the head. Different method of attaching the valve cover than on the older US made car engine like the small block chevy engines, they had small bolts along the base of the valve cover that bolted it on to the head.

best fishing knot for this application
OhioFisherman replied to goteeboy's topic in General Discussion
I haven`t seen anything for holding the hook out away from the line except the metal things on perch-crappie rigs. This link will take you to Bear Paw Tackle, they make a plastic snap that makes it easy to quickly attach a snelled hook. http://www.bearpawtackle.com/index.asp -
What to do when burnt-out lightbulb get stuck at base
OhioFisherman replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Like others have mentioned shut the power off at the circuit breaker for safety. I used needle nosed pliers or needle nosed vise grips. The bulb base is just thin sheet metal and will usually break apart or bend enough to loosen for easy removal. Never had anything else break in the process. -
Who Here Has Fished a Tournament?
OhioFisherman replied to MCTFisher9120's topic in General Discussion
Fished a lot of them, starting back in 73-74 and was still fishing them when illness forced me to stop, just became unreliable as a partner or I would still be fishing them. Some people bowl, play video games, tournaments were my deal, not for winning cash but the competition. You have to love the sport first to stay involved. I am in the states, Ohio, all levels of competition here, from small club tournaments on electric motor only lakes to more major events with substantial prize money or fully equipped bass boats as prizes. Maybe a more organized system of info on some of the tournaments here near me because the tackle shop I frequented was geared to and run by tournament bass fishermen, so they kept up with the info and options. You may have some thing similar in your area? First club I joined was just a group of guys that loved the sport, I don`t think we ever had more than 40 members, a mix of older and younger guys, boaters and non-boat owners and the people with boats drew for non-boat owners as partners, if there were more boaters than non-boaters you could fish by yourself or as a partner with some one else in their boat as long as the non-boaters were covered. Some of the lakes here have Wednesday evening tournaments, an after work event for people that live on or near the lake, but they often let any one that wants to fish it enter. Bigger events often with 150 boats or more and usually part of a tournament series with larger entry fees and prizes. Just my view, even if you start small, don`t be worried about fishing in a small tournament out of a 14 foot tinney. I have seen some people fishing out of small inexpensive boats that knew a heck of a lot more and were more willing to be an instructor than people fishing out of 40,000 dollar bass boats. It`s life, you meet some great people, some not so. I have friends I started fishing with 35 years ago others I fished with I don`t see any more, or want to. Sportmanship, never get mad about losing, try harder next time, keep an opened mind and learn. -
Never stayed at the park, at fishing camps a little farther out into the bay. Pointe Au Baril lots of water, it`s been years since I have been there but still fish there. Lot`s of rocks in the water so a little caution is needed and a lot of islands, just a question of getting used to knowing which way to go. There are good maps of the area. The park is pretty far back from the main lake and mostly sheltered water.

How come everything for ice fishing is crappie, pike, walleye
OhioFisherman replied to forrest's topic in General Discussion
Fresh water fish? Walleye, crappie, perch, bluegill,a steelhead? If I was inclined to eat them, and I would have to be stoned broke to have the desire to go out on ice in the cold to catch them. Season is open here now till March 31st? had buddies that had bass tournaments in december and january as long as the water was open and still got them, takes a pretty good plan? Also know of people getting them thru the ice, but not considered that great of a food fish here by most people. -
I haven`t used braid much, but did look into it, mostly here on the board back when I thought my illness might be short term. The stuff is expensive, I don`t fish for Salmon so have never been spooled. Put power pro on 2 reels an Abu 6501 and 5501, only 80 yards of 65# test, the rest of the spool was 17# mono backing. knots are critical with the braids and most lines don`t tie a good knot and check it and the line often you are going to lose fish. Think the braid to backing called for a Uni knot, one I don`t tie often and the first two times it slipped when pulled by hand, 3rd time I took my time, made sure I was doing it right, and put a drop of fishing glue on it after I checked it. No problems. Never liked using mono, braided dacron over 20 pound test, the stuff feels like rope, the super braids seem like a good idea. For fishing for fish like Muskie, super size pike the way to go. Nice thing about fishing from a boat with a bow mount electric motor is if you stick a pig you can follow it and not get spooled. Had to do that with some portly carp.

Tranny fluid is thin, but diesel fuel can gel in extreme cold. Things have a tendency to work better and longer when they are used in specified operating ranges. I would follow mfgs recommendations. Might also be warranty issues if you don`t?
