  1. Raf is right about the old style green curados, I think everyone that fished in our club tournaments used them, well except me. No particular reason for me not using them other than being cheap, and easy on tackle. I had a bunch of older Shimano and Abu baitcasters that worked well and saw no reason to upgrade. One friend that manages the tackle section of a Gander Mountain store here bought all the old ones they had in stock when the new ones came out. Don`t use Diawa baitcasters, so no opinion on your choice, Abu c-3s aren`t bad Shimano Citica? I used some baitcasters, Abu ultra mags, Shimano black magnums that were 20-25 years old, still worked fine for me. Spinning reels for the most part were an open water, light line reel for me, light tackle 1/16th- 1/8 ounce stuff when finesse fishing. Did win a two day tournament casting a small crankbait over a weed flat on a spinning rod, it was what I had put it on to pre-fish, was working, and saw no pressing need to change. Casting reels were all we had as a kid, back in the 50`s, I learned on one and got used to them.

  9. Never even tried ice fishing, too many nights on a cold truck dock, was even young and dumb once and came to work when it was 17 or 19 below zero back in the 70`s. I learned they gave us sick days for a reason! 25f balmy, 0F cold, anything below that doesn`t involve me! Like my water like my wife, soft and warm! Fished in snow, rain, cold, ice season is tackle prep time. As much as I loved it there was a time and place for me, on the water, not ice!
  10. Like River Rat mentioned, hard to comment or make suggestions with out knowing what your intended target is, and I can`t make out the size of the baits from the picture. Personally I have no problems with the u-tail worms, I used Zoom ss u-tails myself (6 inch), a good bait and I have caught a number of different species on them besides bass. Ring worms are also a favorite on mine, 4 or 6 inch( I don`t consider 7 inch worms 7,they get labeled 6). Berkley Power worms are also good baits. Lizards worked for me, 4 to 8 inch a bigger profile bait than most worms and usually a bigger average size fish. Sort of the original creature bait. 2-3 inch sassy shad or grub on a jig head is a good poke around to see what is in the area lure, a pre-fish lure for me for bass on strange waters, just want to catch something to see what is holding in the area. They will catch bass, I have also caught pike, walleyes, and just about everything else on them. Not my choice on a tournament day unless I am pretty confident they will put what I am looking for in the boat, just prefer a larger bait, unless they ain`t working. Like others have mentioned, no one lure is going to work every day, doesn`t hurt to carry a mix of styles and colors.
  11. I listen, blues an jazz aren`t really my thing. Vincent(Alice) is cool though, he had a bar and grill here by Cleveland Indians stadium, Cooperstown.

  18. I like my water softer than me! A gently cast crank bait should break the surface, scenery should be a pleasant shade of green, white`s not right!
  19. According to news reports here a former fighter pilot and has a side job teaching people not to panic?
  20. Had a block heater on my first Astro van and the diesel trucks at work, nice to go out in the morning unplug the heater and have warm air right now from the heater. A bit cool here this morning -12f coldest since 94, but no mosquitos. Air has moisture in it and engines suck, if the combustion is not complete or like Bernie says the engine isn`t run long enough to burn off the moisture, or evaporate moisture left in the engine when it is shut off? Never had a problem like that, 25 miles had been a short drive to work. Engine bearing are pretty cheap, but a project to do on a lot of cars, every time I did them was on a bare block.
  21. Roy your right, they should be re-naming the airport after that pilot right now! Hard to imagine a clear head to avoid the buildings and get that sucker down somewhere sort of safe.
  22. Not sure what scotty`s are, I used fish on.
  23. LOL my beer budget went to tackle. Not spending any money on it lately but winter was get ready season, nothing worse than spending fishing time out looking for tackle. A trip to BPS, Cabelas, Netcraft instead of the sportsman show, 300 bucks? Couple hundred at the local tackle shop, a hundred bucks maybe at the local flea market.
  24. Should be on cnn, msnbc, watching it since it happened, a great job by all parties involved. Ferry boats there to rescue passengers in just a couple minutes.
