"closed faced reel and a worm on a jighead." LOL actually my preferred method most of the time, for one simple reason, if you can locate the fish it works. Too many fall for the hype of the latest products.

Canada getting beat up by Tom Bauerle
OhioFisherman replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
Canadian Bacon was on TV yesterday, maybe some took it seriously? LOL you are our 51st state! Lucky you! -
I really never had those problems with it, but if I felt the slightest nick in my line I would cut it and retie. A keeper sometimes could mean money or not, I always hated losing fish.
-
Just something to consider down the road, the reels that are more widely in use now will likely have more replacement parts available later. Shimano, Diawa, Abu, and possibly Quantum parts are usually found at a decent tackle shop.

I was a die hard night fisherman, just to avoid the crowded water here in part. Bass had no problem finding 4 inch plastic worms in the dark, 1/8 ounce jigs and pork-plastic. Use a rattle if it increases your confidence, as a change of pace, but I don`t see a need. Maybe a noisier lure when more boating-fishing activity may help during the day? but I never found it to make much of a difference.

My condolences to the family and friends.

Sad to hear it Brian, I had to put my dog Shadow down a couple of months ago. He looked just like yours, except more white hair than me. Strokes finally caught up with him, he was 16. All my kids grew up with him, it made for a tough day. -
Limited experience with Fluoro, Vanish only and only 8-10#, allegedly the right thing to do under tough, clear water conditions. My personal results never showed it to be a noticeable improvement, on tough days fishing was tough no matter what you did. Fishing Lake Erie it got beat up by Zebra mussels, but so did everything else. Leader I used were steel, twist weld, never had an issue with it, east to make up even in the boat, as long as the wind wasn`t howling. Budget leaders usually have poor quality components = lost fish-lures.

1.) check the prices of docking for the summer at suitable marinas. The last time I had a boat docked it was like 650 dollars for the summer, back in 1986. I would guess prices have gone up. 2.) you do want to keep insurance on the boat, summer and winter. I had friends that lost boats in marina fires, and marina floods, while the boats were stored on shore for the winter at the marina. 3.) I had a 25 foot SeaRay, I didn`t paint the bottom every year, I did take it over to the beach a few times during the summer season and scrub what I could of the bottom with a stiff brush. 4.) the rumor here is 4 bucks a gallon for gas by spring, it will be higher at a marina, and they generally frown at you bringing in gas in cans and putting it in your boat.

cross border shopping is it really worth the deals

Wait until the end of June, Presque Ilse state park on the north side of Erie has some very good bass fishing. It is a big sheltered bay with easy access to Lake Erie, a good launching ramp, and for big smallies leave the bay and head east about 7 miles. I believe Erie has a casino now? not that I would gamble on anything but fish in the boat. -

I always ran studded snow tires here, as did a lot of people. They were factory or dealer installed though on new tires. I never had any significant loss of studs.

"On an economic note, super container carriers carry as much as 15, 000 containers. That is 60 long trains in one load." Yeppers, and people wonder why the jobs are disappearing here? follow the tracks! It`s not unusual to see mile long trains here blocking the road with containers double stacked on them.
-
Yes bigugli, I saw a program on TV about them taking a carrier from the east coast around the horn to the Pacific, it didn`t look like a fun time. They must figure China will get mad once they figure out we probably won`t be able to pay back the loans? LOL
-
None of our aircraft carriers can go through the Panama canal, they currently have to go all the way around South America to deploy to the Pacific. For what the new canal will cost they could send a lot of trains across the US for a long time. If they need more aircraft carriers in the Pacific it could take more time to get them there the way it is now.

LOL, great Norm! I guy I worked with retired and got a part time job as a greeter at a local WalMart. A lady came in one day and asked him where she could find the sanitary napkins, he told her and added if you need help fitting them I am available. She complained to the store manager and they fired him. Some people can`t take a joke.

LOL Terry, I used to fish a couple of lakes in western New York state. The camp owners and people in the area seemed to think that the people in New York city thought that world revolved around them.

LOL, it snows in Canada? What a surprise!

US state budget cuts elimate organ transplants
OhioFisherman replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately our country seems to be living on dreams of days gone by. Grandiose plans, and no actual concept of reality. It is one thing to have plans, quite another to ensure they are properly funded. Our politicians always seem perfectly content to let the next office holder, the next generation, deal with the problems, their goal is to stay in office, and they will change their story line to ensure that it happens. I have always felt that the correct way to solve problems was to identify the issues and have an open discussion on them. Perhaps you can`t fix everything, but through discussion and a genuine interest in resolving the problems you could fix something? Both political parties here seem to deeply entrenched in what their financial backers tell them to believe, money talks? er, and corrupts? I don`t agree with either party, and support none financially, why become involved in a bidding war? They will listen to the people that contribute the most cash, right or wrong. We have the best politicians money can buy, nothing more. -

I don`t understand getting upset about talking about it, I appreciate hearing a viewpoint from people in another country. Some seem to get upset if any one expresses a viewpoint other than what they believe. Just my opinion, the only thing that may be wrong with Canada`s health care system is there are far less people, greater distances in between concentrations of people, and the USA on your southern border. Your doctors come here because they can make more money here, why? simple things, drug companies reward doctors for prescribing their products, and our government didn`t even require competitive bidding on the cost of drugs they buy under our medicare system. Plus our doctor`s union, the AMA is in bed with the politicians here, they even have members in congress. Your views? I can discuss them with out getting twisted, some here can`t. -

LOL, funny how that snow machine works, my oldest daughter lives in Sheffield Lake Ohio, with one house between her and Lake Erie, and she can still see her grass, just a dusting up there. 25 miles south of the lake we got dumped on.
-
Schools are closed here, 8-10 inches of snow on the ground and 3-5 more expected. Got to love them Canadian cold fronts and lake effect snow.
