  1. Disability sucks, except when whopper gets to handle the sheephead!
  2. The 30 lb thrust electric sounds way to small to me, I actually prefer cable steering, but would go bigger than 45 lb thrust. I had a 55 pound thrust on my old 16 1/2 foot boat and it was only 73 inches wide. Wider, higher sides catch more wind.
  3. My last boat trailer came with an off brand style of bearing buddies, I still repacked the bearings and inspected things once a year, in the fall at the end of my fishing season. I had the boat, motor and trailer for 20 years, and never a problem on the highway. I have seen too many people, in a hurry, lazy, wind up with a problem along side the road after a long day of fishing for me to be comfortable taking a chance.
  4. Dang, it looks like it was made in China!
  5. Spring? Even here it doesn`t happen until sometime in late April or Early May. The snow is off the ground here, but it doesn`t mean it won`t be back. Muskie season is open though.
  6. Some of the toughest prey animals are peoples pet cats and dogs. My outdoor cats and the neighbors barns cat were seen all the time carrying young rabbits and birds.
  7. http://www.deerso.com/PT_RESORCINOL_GLUE334294-details.aspx?src=gbs I completely rebuild the dual drivers seat of my SeaRay cruiser years ago using this and stainless wood screws.
  8. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Storm-Texas-Shad-Fishing-Lure-/290520816240?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a463da70 They don`t look like much, but always seem t work for me. The red label ones like this where actually made in the USA, blue labels became a product of Mexico different plastic and rattles.
  9. Big fish eat little fish, they aren`t real selective, if it`s an easy meal chances are it`s gone. Most of those appear to be what we call lake or emerald shiners here. The one in the middle does appear to be a gobie, but could be a sculpin. I have caught steel head with shad, perch, emerald shiners in their bellies here, and sometimes one heck of a lot of them.
  10. That looked like a floating turd even before I enlarged it, one of the benefits of Ohio waters?
  11. You have to have the perspective on things back in the day, two bucks was easily a half hours pay for most people. I believe some of those baitcasters are older than the 60`s. Hard for me to say exactly what was being sold up there though back in the late 50`s and early 60`s, I was still fairly young.
  12. Not here Brian, but I do expect more before May.
  13. Friday at 6pm I had about 5 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground, today at 6pm it was almost gone. Spring will get here!
  14. I am not sure why but mag lites seem prone to that.
  15. They shouldn`t have messed with Godzilla! Ya sad to see, there is a reason that area is called the ring of fire though.
  16. Tsunami watch out for Hawaii and the west coast of US, Mex, and Canada. Heck aftershocks of 7.0? that`s a good quake on it`s own.
  17. Nice, that will bend a rod!
  18. It happens on this side of Lake Erie with the shad too. Nothing like dragging a jig across the bottom and hooking a rotting shad. At least the turtles and crawfish eat well.
  19. Snow is almost gone here again, that will probably change in a day or two, it`s still March, but Muskies are in season.
  20. there's a reason top anglers use Japanese lures when money is involved or they want to max out their success. LMAO, I didn`t see KVD throwing Japanese lures in the classic? I think they were made in China? If you think the price of a lure makes it better? keep buying them.
  21. The knob and tube was the way they wired old homes, back in the days before romex. I think they stopped using it in the 60`s in some areas? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knob_and_tube_wiring
  22. I agree with solo on this, I have caught 10 bass on ten casts using them, 4 walleye on 6 casts, pike, crappie. Like anything though, you don`t go fishing with one lure? Sometimes they are hot sometimes there are better choices in your lure selection. A great search bait, but a spinnerbait can be also, and is more snag free.
  23. Actually in April and May fishing for smallies in the back bays of lake Erie. Regardless of what most people think they are vacuum cleaners, they will eat anything that is convenient as a food source. Huge schools of them here, they will get into an area and muddy the water up rooting in the bottom like pigs. It can get the crawfish moving around in an area, which is why we hit those areas, it also attracts smallies. When you set the hook on a 25-60 pound carp though the "feel" is a bit different. As long as the water is cool, 50-60 degrees, they are sort of sluggish, it is easy to follow them around in the boat with the electic motor and land them on fairly light tackle. Late May and June here they are starting the spawn and lauching themselves into the air, far more active, and they head for anything in the water once hooked. Using a medium action spinning rod and 8-10 pound test line just means they will break you off once they get to docks or wood.
  24. Helping Lew build the Ark, maybe we can fish off of it? 3pm Saturday it was in the 50`s rain all day and the snow was gone. By 11pm a sheet of ice and snow mix. There has been flood warning for all 88 counties in Ohio off and on all week.
