  1. I agree with you Lew, seeing some of these speeding morons fly by in their 4x4 20-30 Km over the limit in these conditions is just plain stupid, and one of the reasons why insurance seems to be going up all the time. Aside from not seeing with all the snow on top of the car, remember that when the snow blows or falls off the car while driving it may cause an accident behind you and it does reduce the aerodynamics of the car so one will likely be using up more fuel. Come on people, clear your cars in your driveway or where you park it! But like Terry, I don't like it when drivers are more than 20 Km under the speed limit when there doesn't appear to be enough of a reason to be driving so slow. It also is a reason for initiating road rage especially with the morons I mentioned above. Maybe driving schools should make it mandatory to have a winter course (hmm, maybe make it a requirement for getting a license too). By the way, I've had my snows on since early Nov. Ya it sucks on gas but it's when we have these kind of days, I know it was a good idea. Stan
  2. I'll be at badminton tonight until 10pm, I hope someone can provide a summary.
  3. Welcome back Dave, I haven't met you before but it looks like I may learn quite a few things from your future posts! Again, welcome to the OFC! HearingFish
  4. Welcome Mark to the OFC!
  5. Welcome to the OFC, MuskieRus.
  6. Man were those muskie huge! I would have missed the show if it wasn't for this thread. Thanks Roy. Great work Marc getting on the fish! You're a great guide on the water and a great guy off the water! Cheers, and hope you get onto some even bigger fish this year! Stan
  7. Thanks for the update Jeff, sorry, I couldn't make it up there today, I'll have to meet up with you in the near future. HF
  8. Remember to keep the fishing regs in mind as some of the new changes suggest closing down the trout season through the ice! Although I don't have a cottage (yet), I feel the Kawarthas have slightly more variety of fish, this is due to my thinking that there are more colder water lakes in the Haliburtons, great for trout though. Kinda wishing i had your dilemma. HF
  9. It can warm up in T.O. but lets keep the cold up north of newmarket so some of the ice hut people can get some business.
  10. Congrats Lexx, glad to hear everyone is doing good!
  11. WTG CC, great post and what a beauty brown. HF
  12. Beauty shots Solo, thanks for the post!
  13. Welcome back to the new board. Look forward to seeing some more posts.
  14. I sure hope I don't run across one of them around with my kids, one who likes poking at bugs in the backyard. I might be safe as it doesn't seem to like the GTA but is found on the Bruce Pennisula apparently.
  15. WTG Nautifish, I have yet had the opportunity or time to get my line wet. oh hum... Good luck tommorrow if you get out.
  16. Great report, I'm definitely envious that you're able to get some ice fishing done. Beauty colours on then bows. HF
  17. Terry, too bad you didn't catch anything, better luck tommorrow. Yeah, my older bro when to sibbalds on fri and used a small minnow net they found in the trunk and pailed about $40 worth of minnows in a few minutes, which will be great if the ice would just show up before they die on them. Good luck again, and hope to see some more reports soon. HF
  18. Larvae within a Goldenrod Gall is either from the Goldenrod gall fly or the parasidic wasp. Here check this link out: http://www.fcps.edu/StratfordLandingES/Eco...od_gall_fly.htm
  19. There was a large pothole that I decided not to attempt with a FWD car, looked deep and large enough to sit my car at least 1/2 way up the car. Ground was very uneven. Take care if you're gonna give it a try, make sure you go with another person. HF
  20. Hi all, Since I only got a couple of replies and none of them mentioned any conditions on the area, I headed out to a spot on the PR where Ron mentioned. My friend John and I made it up there around 6 am Dec 31st and low and behold there was about 3" of ice (should have brought my auger ) at the marina. Under the bridge at the PR off 48 there was about 1". Needless to say we didn't bother with trying to get the lines wet! Since I had to be back home by 10am we decided not to go to Barrie. So we decided to drive over to the BOG to check the conditions on a couple of spots. River street public launch had the same (about 3" ice, could stand on the ice but it showed some give). Headed to island road to the very end, around shore it was about 3" of ice but further out (towards the middle) there was open water. If only it stays cold for a couple of weeks, it may become safer for the ice. Safe fishing and again Happy New Year! Stan
  21. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you Dan and everyone else, may every OFNer have a Safe and fruitful (fish-ful) outing each time!
  22. My parents started me off early, I've been told it was when I was about 3 when I started. By 4 I had caught catfish, sunfish, small bass and a 9 lb carp from the Holland river. I still remember the carp, I recall saying "I'm snagged again", then my mom said it's moving! Thinking of which I guess I should look for that pic somewhere in the old albums.
  23. Hi all, I was thinking of heading out for a few early hours Sunday morn (have to be back in Markham by 10 am). Was speaking to Ron yesterday night at the swill and had passed me some ideas of where I may try perching from shore tommorrow morn. Has there been anyone out to PR or TR on the eastern simcoe? Is there still open water to try from shore? If anyone has any info please PM me where I should try first, if nobody has been out that way, then I'll have to post some water conditions when I get back. Thanks, HearingFish
  24. Great pics Mistyriver, it was nice to get out to my first swill with the OFNers. I didn't get much chance to speak with many beyond just the introduction. What a great bunch that showed up. I'll have to take pics next time too. It was nice meeting all of you before I had to leave around 9:30 with my son Joseph (who had to get to bed)
  25. For almost 3 years now, owning and running a hearing clinic in Markham that does hearing testing, hearing aids and devices, providing counseling and information for hearing related topics. It's surprising how many younger people are still blasting away their ears now and find their hearing dammaged a little later in life. All you in the construction biz or around loud machinery, please wear proper hearing protection!!
