Where is that?

We start our new hires at 3 weeks now. I got them to put that in two years ago as a competitive advantage when hiring. I am pushing for four weeks after 5 years for all employees. My personal belief is that burnout is real, I have felt it (and I am just little). I am fortunate to have 4 weeks + some personal days. I haven't taken a sick day in almost four years (not to the detriment of my co-workers) and am generally happy with my life. Opinion again, I work VERY HARD for my employer, in turn, they allow me the privilege of taking a few weeks with my family that have to work hard to support me as well. My employer is quite fair with this as long as everything is taken within reason.

Daddy's Poem Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow. Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go. But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home. Why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today. But still her mother worried, for her to face this day alone. And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home. But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all. About a dad she never sees a dad who never calls. There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet. Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats. One by one the teacher called a student from the class. To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed. At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare. Each of them was searching, for a man who wasn't there. "Where's her daddy at?" she heard a boy call out. "She probably doesn't have one," another student dared to shout. And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say, "Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day." The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her Mom. And looked back at her teacher, who told her to go on. And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak. And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique. "My Daddy couldn't be here, because he lives so far away. But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day. And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know. All about my daddy, and how much he loves me so. He loved to tell me stories he taught me to ride my bike. He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite. We used to share fudge sundaes, and ice cream in a cone. And though you cannot see him. I'm not standing here alone. "Cause my daddy's always with me, even though we are apart I know because he told me, he'll forever be in my heart". With that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest. Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress. And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears. Proudly watching her daughter, who was wise beyond her years. For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life. Doing what was best for her, doing what was right. And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd. She finished with a voice so soft, but its message clear and loud. "I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star. And if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far. You see he was a policeman and died just this past year When airplanes hit the towers and taught Americans to fear. But sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away." And then she closed her eyes, and saw him there that day. And to her mothers amazement, she witnessed with surprise. A room full of daddies and children, all starting to close their eyes. Who knows what they saw before them, who knows what they felt inside. Perhaps for merely a second, they saw him at her side. "I know you're with me Daddy," to the silence she called out. And what happened next made believers, of those once filled with doubt. Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes had been closed. But there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose. And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star. And given the gift of believing, that heaven is never too far. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

I was watching TVO last night and at 8:00 they had a series about woman in the police force. One of the woman worked in the huntsville marine unit, diving squadron. They were live interviewing a boater who's boat had capsized. The driver landed unconcious in the water and this gentleman tried to keep him going (without PFD's). At a certain point to avoid further risking his life he had to let go of his best friend and allow the lake to take him down. This lucky man was alive to help the search and rescue team pinpoint a location where his friend may be. Sombering...

Roy, the politicians have assured us that they will do what is in OUR best interest. Have a little faith, hahahahhaaa. Investment Tip #1 (from a guy who sells steel, I have no ties to anything remotely worth anything in tips) Invest in the worlds most commonly used and quickest depleting resource. Liquid Gold is NOT the dirty stuff coming out of Alberta. It is the "Crystal Spring" that runs out of your favorite fishing hole. Our water tables are being drained and sold for around $0.00 per litre. We buy it for upwards $1.00 per litre, depending on how hot it is outside. DANG...What the heck will they make beer from?

I have sort of swapped fishing for being a Dad for the past couple of years and really enjoy my new hobby. Not that I don't like fishing but it certainly has different rewards. In sticking with the new hobby the wife and I went out and got ourselves a nice 1981 18' Glendale Glendette. This trailer is certainly no luxury ride but we have a number of trips (including NFLD next year) booked in it. Our maiden voyage was to The Elora Gorge Park for 5 nights of trial camping. What a difference having a sink and fridge (not to mention a bathroom) can make to being comfortable while in a park. Overall, for less that the cost of a 20hp we are in good shape. (if anyone wants to buy a 20hp (longshaft, with aluminum transom lifter) evinrude with about 20 hours on it I can make you a heck of a deal $2200). This next trip to Restoule will be great. I have towed the trailer over 200km (one stretch) and the bearing covers were not warm to the touch, anything else I should look for. I am likely installing the brake controller to take advantage of the newish electronic brakes that are on the trailer and I have heard that can be an interesting test of patience. We will be meeting a couple up there that have a canoe with an electric motor so I will bring home some fish tales. In this case I am more interested in others stories about trailering with the family, things to do or not do and also any ideas of places to visit for the Wee Coop while we are up in the Near Nord.

I think you all need something to chew on. DANG...BEER...CHICKEN WINGS...ELITISM I am sure that we could argue this until blue in the face; however, one point and one point only struck me during this thread. Someone mentioned that you (Canadaguy33) likely don't have children, by many of your comments I would have to agree with that. Strike me if I am wrong but at some point we have to take trust in our neighbour to be a better man. If we argue over lawn cutting I trust that we will enjoy a beer the next day and not worry about him seeking revenge, if we drive on the same street I would trust that he would obey the laws of common sense and not rip along through a school zone (disregard Canadian Law for a minute). I have confronted people on my street (I live on a corner) about the speed in which they drive blindly around the corner. To make my point with them I usually bring Cooper (my 3 year old) with me. They then see another side of the coin and generally wave as they drive by next time. They weren't intentionally trying to kill Cooper, just being careless. Now they think about it differently and picture him being around the corner when they are coming. We have to TRUST that people are doing the right thing, and if confronted about doing "the wrong thing" as judged by our laws of common sense (the laws of the water are generally common sense) that they will participate in the conversation with open ears and eyes. This thread was started as a conversation about people on our waterways that are acting inappropriately. To that end I will bring one analogy that stems from the manufacturing sector, " You can't inspect quality into your parts", people have to believe in the company and the process to make things right. In this case we can't legislate common sense onto the waterways. I will leave you, CanadaGuy and Gerritt with one lasting remark that has changed my life. Don't judge people by their actions, but by their intentions. You and I expect to be judged by our intentions, when a mistake is made we always come back with "that isn't what I meant" or "You have mis-understood me". We expect people to judge us not on our actions but on our intentions. Take this line of thinking and "Pay it Forward" (the movie was on last night). Don't guess here, if you are unclear about the persons intentions...ASK. To the unfortunate boater that sent his kids to hospital in an act of carelessness as he threw the tube he was towing into an anchored boat...We know you didn't mean to, but please be more careful.

Hiring...Inside Sales Position (NF)
pigeonfisher replied to pigeonfisher's topic in General Discussion
I agree with HH. Our last recruit was from an industry contact and if I am not surprised by the results from this effort we will be hiring internally, bringing our driver from the back up into the office. We have had good results in the past working with papers/internet campaigns that work simultaneously. Let's see what happens here. -

I had to take the father in law to the hospital a few weekends back due to his reaction to a sting. We were told to leave the nests up as the little fellas are territorial and another set won't build within 100' of an existing nest. I don't know if that is true, I do however know that the in laws went out and bought some fake nests as well. My Father in law was damn near hallucinating from his bites...Cooper got two bites from the same nest though, he had no reaction at all. DANG
