  2. Back reeling is still popular with a lot of our friends in the US. While guiding I was amamzed to watch some of them keep up with giant Lake Simcoe smallies back reeling... However, I also saw some bust up their knuckles trying.
  3. Huge fan of the Russels. Have the fillet, skinner and bird, my fav is the bird knife. Sure quality is very important but so is feel. I use the bird knife on Moose, Deer, etc. Fits nice in your hand and easy to use, you can palm it. Fillets fish well too. One knife I always have with me.
  4. Two guys heading towards to the Pickering Nuke plant out flow in February with a south wind in a Canoe. Felt obligated to make sure they made it past the cross current chop, thankfully they stopped before it or we would of been put in danger as well. I deserve the award too Staffman.. A severe storm came up on us in a T in Simcoe a few years ago and we were at the top end of the lake. We had almost won the T the day before and had another great bag that day that could win. We tried to run back to cooks for the weigh in right in the centere of this flash storm. We saw other boats running behind the islands to ride it out. I had never seen Lady Simcoe so mean, nor have a since! The waves were huge, that's fine we are used to that, the worst part is they were so close together. Impossible to navigate in a 20 foot boat. You would crest one and the one behind would slam you and so on. We made it half way and turned back to hide behind Thorah. We almost didn't make it. Water was up over the seats with both bilges at capacity. Trolling motor busted, both windsheilds busted and our egos. We put oursleves and possibly other anglers in danger that were watching us. Unfortunately a couple folks did lose their lives that day. It is ok to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them.
  5. My joke was made before the buzzing of boats was mentioned here, it was in regards to the plastics blowing out of the boat. Which I have done many times I might add. Lake Simcoe has a lot of my gear, including hats, glasses, phone and a ring
  6. Man, sounds like quite the fertile place you have there Ryan. Good luck on the search.
  7. Wasn't dark coloured with gold stripes with a guy smilin gear to ear behind the wheel like he just boated a 6 and change was it?
  8. It is not about multiple fish for me. It is all about a different presentation. Just a theroy, but the pike we fished were big water fish (Lake O). Used to chasing schools of bait. I assume this is why these rigs out fished other presentations in this certain scenerio. As most predators change over to baitfish in the fall I think this presentation will shine as others mentioned
  9. Bigger Largemouth are usually loners. If you are catching a bunch of little guys, move.
  10. Good point, plus the folks who have seen a 60s/70s Dart will be talking about it.
  11. Wow, talk about mis-branding. What a dud, I was disappointed. My Gramps had a dart, a real one. Not the fart like this.
  12. Ironic, I was talking to a guy at a family gathering yesterday who has property outside of the Sault and see's them regularly. He is supposed to email me the pictures.
  13. HA, no such thing in fishing.
  14. I haven't fished it for bass yet, but I have for Pike. For pike we used swimbaits, inline spinners, and 4" grubs on football heads. In our experience with these rigs we outfished buddies boats fishng the same water each time. I like them, but it will take a while to get used to chucking them all day.
  15. Oh Come ON! epic.
  16. Hey all, here is a quick video of a Tiger Muskie caught while fishing smallies on lighter line. Sinclair mentioned it is a thread he posted a week or so ago. Going through some footage I made this small video of the fight and thought I would share. (still figuring out the editing side of things, ) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_KVTi8xeBMg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Good Fishing, Phil
  17. A beast! Congrats.
  18. I hear ya Jigger, I hate spinnerbait days! ha
  19. Wow, cool video. Nicely done. With the angle you are fishing from in the yak I think you really need to beef up the rod, add some length and use braid IMO. You have to WHAM that hook home. Tough as you ave little leverage in a yak but I really don't think you set hard enough, you just liftd up on them and the thick aguge hook never got in. When a fish blows up, lower the rod to the water then slam it back, try to get the fish up out of the junk and hold the rod high. You need a real heavy rod as a big fish will dig in the junk and if you don't get it up then your pulling it through a jungle. This is how I fish in a bass boat standing up and it can be a challenge, can only imagine in a yak. I use a 8ft H, 65lb braid, and a very hard hookset to get the fish up and surfing back to the boat. Keep the video coming
  20. Always have a great time fishing with Will. Lots of laughs and fish. His grilled pork sandwiches were awe inspiring. Fished some new water on a lake I fished for years, lots of the same structure, we just had to dial in and pattern the what, where, and why certain areas had fish. Once we did that with the help of "Eddie", we got into them. My hat clashes with my lovely shirt? I thought it was a perfectly matched accessory. As for finding simply smashing shirts as these, one must be sponsored, then approved to join the "Angling Lodge" to get the password. Then and only then, the journey may begin.
  21. Some great shots! Here is a couple.
  22. Good observation about the crappie peak, never looked at it like that. I see where you are coming from.
  23. Hey All, I was just sent this article. Maybe it is finally time to close the ice for walleye. http://www.durhamregion.com/news/article/1378134--lake-scugog-walleye-population-dwindling We used to do very well on the bog in the spring for walleye. It's been a few years since I've fished it for eyes, but friends of mine have and the reports over the last couples years have not been good at all.
  24. I'd say medium rare myself. Delicious.
  25. I tried Cliff, but all I got back was this auto responder from your email. "Sorry, I am very Busy right now and can not get to your email. I got these pill from some nice fellas overseas and now the wife won't leave me alone.. she's driving me crazy. Good news though, I am now named properly for the right reasons! Good fishing, BIG Cliff"
