  1. PVA is not as user friendly as it seems. Especially when it's hot. If you don't dry your lead/line it might melt before you cast. I have them in my trunck since April and only attempted to use it once in June. Didn't find it as attractive as on paper. If you think you need PVA so you can use your not-sticky-enough groundbait mix then I think it's much easier to add more binder to your ground bait and stick with method feeders. Try break crumb, it's an excellent binder. If bank sticks can be used in your swim, I find that they are much cheaper and easier to carry/set up. Fish Sport has them for like $8. I have two although I also have two from fox. They are not the same quality but the $8 ones are very worth the money. BTW, where do you fish mostly? if you don't mind sharing.
  2. Rich, I went for another session this morning with my noodle rod. I can tell you it's just different. With a pole you have much better control on presentation for corase fishing. And you can be sure the exact spot your hook bait is will also be where you drop your loose feed. Now, with bass and other prediators it's a different story.
  3. English, mine is not a pole (can't equip with elastic) so I don't think I have any chance landing anything over 5lb. Unless the fish jumps into my keepnet by itself ;-) A real pole is my next step, but I can't imagine how those park users walking by will say when they see that. I mean, I already got more attention than I can handle with the 6 meter whip ;-)
  4. Thanks... looks like a good site.
  5. Went to my local swim this morning to do some carping. I have been using my new 6 meter pole (actually, a whip to be correct for those European anglers) for carping for a few weeks now since I bought it about a month ago. Carping with this pole with 0.5g - 1g float, 5 lb main line / 3lb leader and size 12 hook is very different from carping with the pod, alarm .. etc. When I have a carp on I actually hope it's not too big for my pole. Without a reel to let the carp strip line from, the 6meter 3 - 5 lb line is all I have to play the fish with. Sometimes the line would break within 3 seconds because either the carp gives all it has or it's just too big for my rod/line to handle. And for the 3 seconds you can actually hear the "sound of the rod in stress" (don't know what you call that but hope you know what I mean), and that's sometimes all I get from the fish. Anyway, for 3 hours of effort, I landed 5 carp, 9 bull heads. One carp broke my line with my float (this is a big failure), 3 broke my leader only (I consider this meaning the correct set up so it breaks where it is supposed to break). Anyway, this is the lot in my keep net. another group shot These are some individual shots, I borrow my son's bug net for this kind of fishing. It servers the duty nicely so I never bother with my other nets. I could post a lot of these but they all look similar. All in 13 - 16" range. Last one with me in it.
  6. Mike, that's funny, really really funny. Would've been much better if you photoshopped Victor's head onto that guy. ;-) Victor, if you do that with a big carp, I will give you two nash leads.
  7. If you want to photo with a 10lb+ fish, and you can't hold the gill plate like you would with pike or muskie, it's only nature to kneel down for a photo. I guess if carp are the size of bass then we wouldn't have to.
  8. What MJL said. Also, you may find that most carpers don't look at the camera either, instead they look at the fish. Some say it's to react faster if the fish starts to roll around carper's arm. For me, I just want to look at the fish as much as I can before I release them.
  9. Argh, carp.... Almost forgot what my baitrunners are for.....it's been that long ! Nice report, will be picking up my carp rod in another week or so. Carp fished only once in July so far, caught 2 in 3 hours and won some prizes because of those fish.
  10. True, but if they are hooked on fishing in the early age then it stays with them all their lives. See your son ;-) (for people don't know, MJL is LB's son) Cliff, haven't talked to you for a while since carp action slowed down. Thanks for the report and the pics are all very pretty and your reports are always pleasant to read.
  11. Welcome Carpe Diem, where are you located? The easiest way to get into the sport is to find someone who is willing to take you fishing with him/her. If you are into carp and not too far from GTA, Photoz is a nice candidate but you need to wait for a month until he recovers. If you are in my neck of concrete woods (Markham) then we can fish together some time. Okay, my wife is back, I am going out now ;-) (see my other thread -- This morning for details).
  12. Set the alarm at 5:20 planning to do some "match fishing" (i.e. serious panfishing) in the locale pond. But managed to stay in bed until 6:40 LOL Get the gears and baits etc in the car, got to the pond started fishing at 7:30. By 8:30, I already had 5 fish (4 nice size suckers and 1 bluegill) landed and 1 small carp that got away. Then something happened.... I realized that I forgot my wallet at home and my fishing license is in there. Damn...what should I do? After exactly 2 seconds of thinking I packed up and came home.... wanted to do it right and not getting into any trouble. I mean, getting a fine is one thing because I know I have a license, but I don't want my sons and friends to know that I get fined fishing while I have tried so hard to promote fishing to them... ethical and healthy fishing. Anyway, got home and my wife wanted to do some garage/yard hoping so I said sure, go ahead, I'll be home with the kids (still sleeping). That's why I am posting this now. Want her to be happy too. How is your morning going so far? I bet a lot of our fellow OFNers are on/by some water now, wish everyone luck. It's beautiful out there today. And for those who can't make it out this morning, there's always tomorrow Will be back to my local pond once my wife is back, and I will bring my camera to take some pics to post to this thread later on.
  13. Take care, Steve. Carp action won't resurrect until mid August anyway.
  14. Yup, look at the bright side.... you now has a perfect excuse to get a new rod .... and a new girl friend. (Actually, if you want to fish more, then save the girl friend part unless you can find someone like Bly ;-) Nicely written report.
  15. Novel like report, two thumbs up !
  16. What is that thing lying across the bucket? Your PB perch? LOL
  17. Yup, been there a few times. Last purchase was a 6 meter pole last week. They carry different stuffs not that main stream stuffs from British/Germany. But I find they work as well and a lot cheaper. I bought some 2kg breaking strength line last week too to go with the pole, it is 0.14 mm. Pretty good size for that breaking strength. Will be back for that 0.085mm line later and a few more pole floats. Fishing for minnow can be fun when carp are not biting.
  18. July carping is always tougher, that's why bass season opens in late June ;-) Nice to hear you diehard carpers still catching. For these few weeks I only target the smaller ones in the ponds around where I live.
  19. Thought I was early, but seems not. Good Saturday everyone, have fun and play safe.
  20. Who said carp are bad for other species? People are eating/keeping less fish because of carp now... Makes you think...and appreciate... I hope.
  21. Fished yesterday, got a pb, and you two had your baby today? My estimate is ....by the age of 6 months your baby will be ice fishing ;-)
  22. I believe, if they fell into a sewer, they'll come out with two channel cat. They are just amazing and I am glad I stayed up again for this post ;-)
  23. So, Cliff....WHERE ARE THE "CLIFF & CAROLE NIGHTLY" THAT SOME OF US HAVE BEEN WAITING? I seldom shout here, but I stayed up late for two nights and no report... I am entitled to should a bit. LOL
  24. Hmm... what I don't understand is that .. why the pickeral in the morning turns to walleye in the evening... I have to try this Lakair thing one day...
