Oddly enough, that is exactly what I did!!! Same motor too!

Do you still have the old TM? Either way you look at it, you will be fine. I went from a Motorguide to a minnkota and switched both pieces to new ones. I just didn't want to have any weak spots in my new setup. I literally changed everything that was associated to the TM because I was upgrading from a 12v to a 24v

Should I be thinking about a new boat?
Lape0019 replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
Unless you want a bigger boat with newer bells and whistles, I would say refurb is your best option. If you want a bigger boat or a different style of boat, I would consider looking at other options but as long as you are still happy with the boat, keep it. -
lol, It wasn't quite a year by any stretch but it was a few months anyway. I wasn't in a rush because 1, I don't use this rod anymore and really still don't plan on it and 2, bass season was closed so even if I wanted to fish it, I wouldn't have been able too. I think the water around here was frozen as well. I just wanted to tell everyone that my rod was replaced free of charge with no issues and that I was really impressed because I didn't think it would be replaced. As a secondary note, shimano is not my rod of choice. Their reels however are what I almost exclusively use now. I just like them better than the other brands I have tried (Abu, Lew's, Pflueger...)

I second doubleheader's thoughts. I was going to right something similar yesterday but thought it was too harsh... I beleive Bayliner looks closer at asthetics that quality aand that is why I would look at any other glass boat before them. Fit and finish on a larson or a Searay are way better. My dad has a Tahoe (Tracker Marine) which is also quite nice. It is a 216 deckboat with a 190hp I/O and it was designed as a fish and ski boat. It works better as a ski/cruiser than a fishing boat but it is set up quite well regardless. If you want to look at Tahoe, they do not make this model anymore but you could look at the 195i deckboat or the Q41 FS.

My son threw a rod sock overboard while perch fishing and quite a few Megabass Ito 110's have broken off on the casts. I am sure I have lost countless Crankbaits as well. The one lucky one I have was a while pitching, the jig caught some grass laying on top of the water and pulled a Shimaon Core 100MGFV mounted on a Dobyns Champion Extreme 745 out of my hand. I think the full cork grip gave me an extra second or two to grab it out of the water before it sank. That could have been a very bad day... Adam

bow mount trolling shaft length for 16' tinny
Lape0019 replied to aznphil's topic in General Discussion
FYI, You can also have them shortened. If done by an authorized dealer it doesn't even void your warranty! I was reading up on this because I have a 60" on a bass boat and it is too long for most days. I should have went with the 52" but it didn't have I pilot pre rigged so I went with the 60. -
Everything stated here is a great start. Trim the motor in as close to the transom as possible. Change the pitch to 1 or 2 degrees lower than what is on there Add weight to the bow of the boat. 85lbs for a 4 stroke shouldnt have that much of an affect on planing. There really isnt enough of a difference in weight between a 2 and 4 stroke at the 9.9 level to make that big of a difference that you wouldnt be able to solve it with 1 or all of the suggestions here.

She got to you eh!!! She sent me an earful too!

Matt, Just convince the other half that you need a bigger boat with a rod locker in the floor. Problem solved and I know she probably won't be too hard to convince

Darren, I dot think I would be taking a 16 foot boat on BOQ but I have never been on it so I will leave someone else to expand on that opinion. That boat does look nice but I wouldn't call it a fishing boat. My suggestion is to look at what type of fishing you are going to be trying to get into. If you only plan on fishing for panfish with a hook and sinker, I could see this working quite well. If you plan on fishing for bigger fish where you will be standing and making multiple casts a day, I don't think this boat is for you. The gunnels are pretty high and fishing off of the bow cushions tends to turn a lot of people off. If they are removable, that is a different story. I bass fish so this boat would not work very well for me. The tunnels all away around are too deep for pitching and I don't really see a good place to mount a trolling motor. Welcome to the board and congrats on looking for your first boat. Use the search function here as there are many posts on what to look for and what brands are good. Max hp is your friend and aluminum is more forgiving that fibreglass is what I will throw in here though. Good luck!

stihl is by far my favourite brand out there right now. I have used a 20 year old stihl on the farm I used to work at and when it was time to by a supper snipper, I chose the FS45. It is a curved shaft but works quite well. I would recommend a straight shaft but I think they may be out if your price range. If you can swig one, go for it though. They are usually the ones that have multiple head configurations as well.

Baitcast help! Gear ratio for slow bass applications
Lape0019 replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
For what you are planning on doing, I would stick with the 6.X:1 ratio reels. If this was primarily going to be for deeper crankabits, I would say a 5.X:1. As you seem to be looking to use the same reel for multiple items, a 6.4:1 general purpose ration would be perfect for you. Curado I gets my vote for a reel. It has a small profile yet holds a tone of Line. There is nothing wrong with the Lew's either but The Curado is nw this year and has a tonne of features the TP doesn't. -
I am going through the complete opposite of trying to find an SS prop to replace my aluminum. Because SS is harder, it does not flex as much so if you are running a 18P SS, you would probably want to stay around a 19P to get the same performance. If you want to gain some RPM (which it looks like you do), I would suggest the 17P which should increase your RPM's by 400-500RPM.

All good advice. I think Glen meant do not pull on humid days but sometimes, you won't have a choice. Other than the hitch and wiring, there isn't much more to have installed. Look to find a reputable place in your area to have the items installed and this would not be the dealership. They do not do enough of these to IMO be good at it. Finding a reputable truck accessory place that does 10-15 of these a week would be a better bet. I know of a a place down near ottawa so if you are in the area, send me a PM. I not, ask around and see where other people had theirs installed. Adam.

Just thought I would fill you guys in and report back. After a few weeks of waiting for the rep to come in, the shop owner I took my Compre to in order to see if they would replace it because of the messed up reel seat, he sent it in to Shimano to see what they would do. To both my and his surprise, Shimano sent back a brand new compre jig and worm to replace my screwed up reel seat. Needless to say, I am extremely impressed with Shimano! Adam

Price is the biggest consideration. I want a Ranger Z520 but the wife wants something with more seats and is looking closely at the Reata. I don't like that you cannot get an extended rear casting deck for the Reata. My compromise at the moment is looking at the 619vs. It has more seating (like the Reata) but you can buy the extended rear casting deck. This way when you are fishing, it is a fully functional rig but is still easily converted back to a good ski boat. If the price is out of your league (I am a few years away myself) try to find something that has similar characteristics. In the mean time, my Bass Tracker that I have had for 5 seasons now and has given me absolutely not problems, will just have to do. Good luck with whatever you buy! Adam

What's your spring/summer boat projects?
Lape0019 replied to RangerGuy's topic in General Discussion
Trolling motor quick release bracket, new starting batter, and new prop. All of the big things were done in the previous years. -
How deep do you plan on fishing. the HDI has both 2d and down imaging but if you never go into water deaper than 15 feet, I really don;t see the need for DI.

This is what you have to do on the elite 5 models so I would imagine it would be the same. It shouldn't matter if you are in simulation mode or not as any changes I make on my 5 in simulation mode are reflected in real time. To make the change, open the menus and select the charts area. There will be a drop down with a few different options for you to select. Adam

It depends on the brand you want to buy. Costco has good prices on their deep cycles which are kirkland branded and they seem to have great reviews. The Walmart batteries get good reviews for their price as well. I just prefer Interstate Batteries and try to find the best price I can on the battery I want rather than finding the cheapest battery out there.

what places on the net do you buy tackle from
Lape0019 replied to skinny's topic in General Discussion
I actually stopped looking at this site a while ago. Although some of their prices are alright, most are a little bit of a rip off. I remember seeing a Gen 2 Abu Garcia Revo S for $10 - $15 more than what it cost when it was still available. This was reight after the Gen 3's came out and most other places were discounting this reel. Maybe their tackle is alright, but I just stopped lookng there. -
I bought a 100MPH rainsuit after using every other cheaper version and for something that keeps you bone dry, it is pretty breathable. More so than anything else I had tried. For the price of it, it is hard to find a better gore-tex rainsuit. I was really looking at the Simms suit before I bought this but I could not justify double the price for something that was going to keep me just as dry.

Electric motor battery charging question
Lape0019 replied to Pigeontroller's topic in General Discussion
I bought the minnkota plug and receptacle when I installed my terrova because I wanted to make sure everything was Minnkota and to their spec. I take the plug out of the package and what do you know, the plug says marinco on it! The only dofference is that the minnkota plug is a little narrower. It still locks and everyhing
