  1. So much of their business is from the states as well. Many are owned by Americans that of course can’t cross the border to even see what shape their camps are in. The frustrating thing is that nothing can be done right now.
  2. https://www.tvo.org/article/the-biggest-thing-this-industry-has-ever-faced-northern-outfitters-brace-for-covid-19 Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Excellent Adventures co-owner Faron Buckler had expected 25 Texan doctors to be loading their fishing gear onto floatplanes in Red Lake on Victoria Day weekend. They’d then lift off for lodges in the northern Ontario wilderness, hoping to bring home a trophy fish — or at least a good story about the one that got away. But, across northern Ontario, hunting outfitters, such as Buckler’s, are beginning to worry that 2020 might be the year the whole summer got away. Non-essential businesses remain shut due to a provincial order, and the United States-Canada border will be closed to recreational traffic until at least May 20. “We're definitely worried we could lose the year,” Buckler says. “We're losing a lot of the tourists already. They're scared to travel, and they're not certain of the conditions — especially the older clientele.”
  3. Property owners only pay property taxes on the days they are at their cottage right?
  4. I think that might be clear water with a brown sand bottom.
  5. A article about bigmouth buffalo in Minnesota being 112 years old and why that might not be a good thing. https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/bigmouth-buffalo/371327
  6. I've ordered 2 giant rubber bands and a ramp from ACME. Most of the ratings were very good but someone with the handle W.E. Coyote only gave it half a star. Photos to follow.
  7. It'd be nice to see the true shape of the tail. I was thinking a small snakehead but wouldn't put any money down.
  8. I figured the apps were similar, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I use the ihunter app for maps, WLU boundaries and seasons. I was hoping the fishing app was the same. Thanks for the fed-back.
  9. I've read his stuff in Ontario Out of Doors since the 80's, I know he likely was writing for them before then, but i was more into Hot Wheels and hockey cards in the 70's.
  10. Anybody currently using the iFish app? I have the iHunter app and find it useful.
  11. Used to use a french press but now I use an Italian coffee pot most of the time. Either of those and a bean grinder are all you need.
  12. Tell you what Marty. I'll go fishin' for ya and send you LOTS of photos.
  13. Can't fish for squat outa that white one though.
  14. The only outboard I saw you drive had no prop at all.😮
  15. I’ve been waiting to open this thread because January was too far from open water season for me. Now that sports will be wrapping things up for a bit I figured this would be a good night to take a look and share mine. I bought this from another member here in the spring of 2013 and it has been perfect. The single thing to fail was a winch strap a few years ago.
  16. Welcome. I can't help with those lures or the local knowledge. From the fishing shows and magazines just about everything that swims is in your area.
  17. You get them up there? I make too much noise stomping around looking for grouse, but I've not even seen sign of them.
  18. And only on crown or public land.
  19. The challenge with making ice outdoors is the cold is "coming" from the top and going down. Rinks with refrigerant of course do the opposite. If you put too much water on top of the ice the top freezes and then the water underneath starts to freeze. Water expands as it freezes and the previous frozen top pops off into that shale. Keep the coats of water thin and let it freeze solid before coating again. The other trick that works at home (if you have access to indoor tap) is to use thin coats of hot water. It helps to smooth out the skate ruts. On a lake, shovelling off as much of the snow and skate shavings first help if you don't have hot water.
  20. I got caught on my fly once. Something you never need to learn again.
  21. They clearly were not disposed of properly, but that might be the only offence. The coyote "season" for WMU 88 where NOTL is open all year.
  22. My kids have been asking to go. In part, I think because they want to see how the rinks have been converted. We'll see how today's play-off game goes and see if we have to play Sunday.
  23. Booked for the last week in July. Fun family time at the lake.
  24. Thanks for the feedback. Looking to spend a week there this summer.
