  1. Weather network got it wrong here again. Thunderstorms predicted at 9am…. Started at 8:52. Like come on. Of course I'm about 7-8 minutes from Tillsonburg where the network was giving me the forecast for. Not understanding forecasts or how weather predictions work is ok. Ranting that they are wrong more than they are right (let alone 90%) is complete clownery.
  2. Father and son trash fishing on the Detroit River https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/fishing-for-junk-on-the-detroit-river-1.4805683?cmp=rss
  3. The conditions were consistent with severe weather and the possibility of tornados. There were tornadoes. Weather predictions are more accurate now then ever before and will continue to get better. The information is solid, the understanding is often the failure.

  6. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/minnesotans-seek-to-reel-in-angler-who-lost-video-camera-in-2016-1.4795182 A pair of Minnesota based anglers who found a video camera last spring on Lake Superior's north shore would like to track down the owner. In May of this year, Shawn Perich and his pal Al Lutkevich, were fishing on the Old Woman River, when Lutkevich found a camera. Back at their cabin, they discovered the silt covered camera still worked. The memory card also had some video on it of someone fishing for trout in late October or early November of 2016. Perich says the angler had started from Sault Ste.Marie and was chronicling his fishing adventures on different rivers as he travelled west. "So what he was doing is he would use a tripod and just film himself fishing," Perich said. "So there were several videos like this. And I thought we should just try to get this camera back to this guy." In the videos, the angler is dressed in chest waders and has a long, graphite fishing rod and what is known as a centre pin reel. Perich said the specialty fishing equipment suggests a very keen steelhead angler, and someone who is likely known to other anglers. He said they tried contacting the camera manufacturer with the serial number to see if the angler had registered it, but have had no response. Without a name, neither of the men knew how to move forward with the search. "Then we were just scratching our heads, since we are from the western end of the lake, we didn't think any of our contacts would work to find the guy...." Perich said he approached CBC Thunder Bay outdoor columnist Gord Ellis with the story in hopes of spreading the word north of the border. He said he and his pal Lutkevich would like to return the video camera to the rightful owner. "I hope that someone recognizes him," said Perich. "Or has heard the story as obviously he must have told somebody about losing his camera when he got home." Anyone with information about this angler is asked to contact Shawn Perich at [email protected] or Gord Ellis at [email protected]
  7. The other one I remember from school is Paddle to the Sea. Many (all?) of his National Film Board films are available online. The film Waterwalker has a closing scene that is one of my favourites, and with Bruce Cockburn singing over the credits. Haunting.
  8. Haven't watched it for years. I need to dig out some of Bill Mason's books and have a read. He had many talents.
  9. I think Nissan had something similar a few years ago but the price I saw was thousands of dollars and I can't see any reason to pay a premium to be off the ground.
  10. Comical to think of these 2 adults sleeping in the back of a truckbed.
  11. How much space would be between the wheel wells in a pick-up?
  12. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/pinecrest-lake-residents-goldfish-infestation-1.4785714 B.C. lake infested with hundreds of goldfish just months after pets released into wild. Some goldfish in Pinecrest Lake are now as large as 13 centimetres, says invasive species expert. Residents of a small B.C. lakeside community say they're dealing with a goldfish infestation after someone dumped their unwanted pets in the water. Pinecrest Lake, which is located about halfway between Squamish and Whistler, had no goldfish in its waters last year — but now they number in the hundreds, according to the Sea to Sky Invasive Species Council. "People have been observing schools of 30 to 40 fish schooling together at a time. They vary in sizes, some small, some up to five inches [13 centimetres] big," said Clare Greenberg, the council's executive director. Greenberg said the goldfish, the smallest member of the carp family, were released in the lake in the spring or early summer, and were likely placed in the area by well-meaning pet owners. "We're kinda choked," said nearby resident Mary Brown. "We were like, what do we do now?"
  13. About the only time I sleep in my vehicle now is hunting so heat isn't usually a problem. I find sleeping in the front with the seats reclined is as comfortable as in the back of the SUV with the seats flat.
  14. Ya, between a stand alone tent, sleeping in the vehicle and no-tell-motels I don't see this being something I need/want. Thanks for the feedback.
  15. We're getting a new vehicle and you can get a tent that attaches to the hatch at the back. My first thought is that a good tent is better than anything that attaches to the back but thought I'd see what the gang here has experienced. How is the seal around the hatch? I'd think it would be a possible mosquito issue?
  16. Not as good as it was 30 thousand years ago. Ba dump bump
  17. http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2018/08/07/0200000000AEN20180807003400315.html SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Yonhap) -- Fourteen 29,000-year-old fishing net sinkers that are considered to be the world's earliest have been excavated in Jeongseon, northeastern South Korea, a university museum said Tuesday. The fishing net sinkers made of limestone represent a rare discovery of fishing gear from the Upper Paleolithic era or the Upper Old Stone Age, according to the Yonsei University Museum. The sinkers were unearthed during an excavation of four cultural phases from the Paleolithic era at the Maedun Cave in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province. The 14 sinkers comprised three from the first and top cultural phase, one from the second cultural phase and 10 from the third cultural phase, from which a jagged stone tool and a flake of stone were found together. Researchers at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources have identified their ages as from 28,550 to 29,460 years by radiocarbon dating of charcoal contained in the lower part of the third cultural phase. "If the figures are found to be correct, the net sinkers from the Maedun Cave are the earliest relics in the fishing history of mankind," a museum official said.
  18. If someone can't string their rod in 20 seconds how are they going to tie their line to a bobbin and then thread their rod? They'ed be better off with velcro on their shoes.
  19. Had some time for a quick fishing trip before flying to Orlando for a week of amusement parks and punch-you-in-the-face heat and humidity. "Come on dad, the fish are waiting…" Second trip with his baitcaster (may have to click on link to watch video): We didn't have a lot of luck with the largemouth in the pads but some smallmouth played on top. The fight: Solid bass on a super spook: The release: Had to get a shirt for the trip: Lots of fish at Disney's Animal Kingdom: Feeding the gators at GatorLand (click on link to watch video): What Else would you have with fried gator???
  20. Topwater, although a topwater would also be number 2 and 3 as well for me. lol With your other 3 options I'd suggest a minnow/twitch bait or a crankbait.
  21. Saw something the other day that applies to me, and I'm sure many others: "I go fishing so I don't choke people." So it does help those people for sure.
  22. I thought maybe I could swing something and go, but my contact is in Vegas on vacation.
