Yeah, it did seem sorta ironic LOL

Kinda funny, but I've been working outside most of the day and just came in a few minutes back to have lunch and turned on the TV and sure enough the movie "Twister" is playing on the 1st channel I came to.

I'm not too far away from you Shane and the night of the warnings it absolutely pounded down rain here along with strong winds. This morning we had heavy rain, lightning & thunder between 6-6:30, infact enough that it shut down my satellite dish for awhile, yet friends of ours just down in Peterboro never got a drop. Pretty hard for the forecasters to pinpoint anything exactly.
-
I think what it all boils down to is the other night we received a warning that tornadoes were POSSIBLE in certain areas and it turns out the forecasters were 100% correct, they hit in roughly a spot we were warned about. I'd guess most of us realize that forecasting EXACTLY when and where a tornado will hit is still somewhere in the future but as I said earlier I'd rather be given a heads up that there was a possibility of one hitting my house rather than knowing nothing about it till it was too late and my family was killed. It's kinda like some people complain about potholes in the road, then they complain when they get held up because crews block the road to fix the potholes.
-
I have no issues with warnings being broadcast and as Dan suggested I'd rather be given a heads-up that tornadoes are possible than be told nothing and get wholloped without knowing what hit me. The warning the other night said they were possible in certain areas and a couple of those spots did get hit. Imagine how many people around North America could be alive today if they'd been given 10 minutes heads-up that tornadoes were possible. And it's not like we get these warning very often either.

Fun times guys and good fish. Nipissing is definitely a musky factory.
-
Sorry to hear about your Mom Marty, that's always tough but good to know your Dad enjoyed the trip along with you guys.
-
I no longer fish but still spend several weeks a year up on the West Arm of Nipissing and the highlite of every day is the incredible sunsets up there. A couple shots from last week.

same deal with me, kept my boat in a barn for 10 winters and put in lots of mothballs and never once had a critter issue of any kind and there was plenty of rats & mice in there just like most barns.

Another time on the West Arm Tybo and I were casting a spot and decided to move 100 yards away so I checked my GPS and it said it was 8' deep all the way across. I put the boat in gear and started across and within 50' I put my boat right on top of a rock that wasn't marked, infact while I was sitting on the rock my GPS was still saying I was in 8'. Nope, don't always depend on GPS. -

Couple years back we were at a camp up on the West Arm of Nippissing which can also be a VERY dangerous place if you don't know where your going. Fella from another camp bought a brand new Tracker from Bass Pro and picked it up Saturday morning on his way north. Turns out he had ZERO experience driving a boat and had never been on this lake before but headed out Monday morning and was running about 30 MPH thru the rocks & islands when he hit a submerged rock. He wasn't hurt but the rock tore a hole in the hull and fortunately the flotation kept him from sinking. He used his cell phone and called the police. Police towed him into our camp and he called his friend who brought his trailer over and we got him loaded and he was on his way. I asked him why he'd run so fast thru the rocks when he had no knowledge of the area and he basically said he didn't know it was dangerous. Kinda hard to feel sorry for folks sometimes but I did for him. -
Unless we get 6" of snow the blower doesn't even get uncovered Brian so it's the shovel that takes the beating LOL
-
Thanks again guys, I went into town and bought a torch and just finished burning about 50' of weeds up the center of the driveway and it really did a good job, but it's so stinkin hot out there I'll leave it till tomorrow to finish it off LOL.
-
Funny you gave that price Albert cause I had no idea the cost but just a guess I told my wife it'd probably be 17 or 18000 LOL I've tried everything including the vinegar and water many many times and yes it will kill some weeds but they come right back before too long. I'm gonna give the torch a try and see how it works. Thanks boyz.
-
Thanks Terry & good to hear. With the $$$$ I spend on weed killer I could have bought a dozen torches hahaha
-
Hey guys, I've got 250' of gravel driveway and am fighting a losing battle with the weeds. I've tried about every product known to man and nothing gets rid if them for more than a short while. I'm thinking of buying a propane torch and burning them out but wondered if anyone has tried this method and how'd it work ? I'm thinking of something like this. https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.inferno-propane-torch-kit.1000697564.html

I remember watching a show about the most influential planes of WW2 and top of the list was the P51 Mustang as that was the 1st fighter that had the range to escort & protect the bombers deep into Germany.
-
I quite often get some really interesting low flying planes around my place, specially a Hercules from Trenton and a couple years back this guy was circling overhead waiting to join a military show down in Peterboro. He passed directly over my house several times and I got some nice pictures. I'd hoped that old B29 would show up and sure enough he passed overhead 20 minutes ago but I was working outside and couldn't get my camera in time. It's very loud and can be heard a ways away so I'm gonna be waiting for him next time LOL
-
No, I've never been to the Warplane Museum but have thought it would be very interesting and also the one in Ottawa. I've seen the old Lancaster many times when I lived in Toronto and was always more than impressed i with it. My Mom's brother was a bomber pilot during the war and sadly he was killed along with his entire crew when their plane went down during the war.
-
Probably close to 50 years since I've been on a plane too Paul
-
Yeah it sure is Paul, and last year there was a B-17 up here for a few days but unfortunately I didn't get to see it. After I got out of the Navy at the end of "66 and was waiting to start on the Fire Dept I got a job at Toronto Airport to fill in the time and we had an old B-25 stored at our hanger and I used to go sit in it sometimes and try to imagine what it must have been like for the crews of those planes during the war when everybody was trying to shoot them outta the sky. Took a certain breed of people to do that stuff. The old B-25 was bought by the Confederate Airforce in Texas and they were gonna restore it but I never heard anymore about it after they got it.
-
I've always like old airplanes and this morning my wife & I had to go into Lakefield...north of Peterboro...and while I'm sitting in a parking lot I hear the roar of an airplane not too far over head and look up and darned if I don't see an old B-29 bomber flying by. Not exactly something you expect to see LOL I did a bit of searching on GOOGLE and found it's visiting the area this weekend. Pretty Kool thing to see flying by. https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/whatson-story/8795886-b-29-superfortress-bomber-fifi-celebrates-73rd-birthday-at-peterborough-airport/

It's funny you mentioned that Dax I haven't watched a fishing show in years but was flipping thru the TV channels this morning and noticed this show was on so started to watch it and saw the same thing as you where they said they were using bass gear.

Those guys & gals have been busting their butts non-stop for a couple weeks now and doing an outstanding job bringing that blaze under control.
