  1. CBC National did an hour program early this morning and they interviewed a meteorologist who said at the time of the accident the sun was only about 21 degrees above the horizon. Obviously she didn't say that caused the accident but I spose if it was in his eyes as he was travelling west it may have hindered his vision making it tough to see the stop sign. I'd guess most of us have experienced poor visibility heading into a low sun.
  2. Back when I had a 90 HP Merc I used a Happy Troller and it worked great for very very slow trolling. https://www.davisnet.com/product/happy-troller-large/
  3. The news said a family of 4 from Alberta was killed there a couple years ago Dave, that's probably who the crosses are for.
  4. Just watching an update on the news about the Saskatchewan crash and I spose there's not much can be said other than how lousy it was. Really really sad.

    Wind storm

Lots of trees down in my little corner of the Kawarthas and many places still without power, we lost ours yesterday afternoon about 2:00 and they say it may be 10:00 tonight before it's restored. Times like this my stand-by genny is worth it's weight in gold LOL
  6. Power's been out here for a couple hours but the big ole stand-by genny kicked in automatically just the way it's sposed to and were snug as that proverbial bug in the rug.
  7. Yeah, sadly Paul we've got ignorant slobs on both sides of the border.
  8. It's so sad that we have to share this planet with slobs like this and when whoever left that mess is caught I hope they nail him and all others like him with the harshest punishment available. I live on a beautiful country road near Burleigh Falls that runs off hwy 28 and along Clear Lake and it's unbelievable how much garbage people throw here. They come in off the hwy after dark when nobodies around and dump all the garbage they're too lazy or cheap to take to the local landfill / recycling site. Just off the top of my head I recall piles of aluminum siding, tires, a surfboard, construction materials, bicycles, mattresses, regular garbage and all sorts of other crap. Last year someone ever discarded an 18' sailboat & trailer after they removed all identification. It was posted here the other day about someone being fined $11,000 for keeping too many fish, maybe if those kinda fines were issued for tossing garbage everywhere it may cut back on some of it.
  9. I posted a newspaper story last year about efforts to stop the pigs from throwing their garbage all over the Causeway while fishing and today found this article pertaining to the same issue & thought some may find it interesting. https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/news-story/8343509-more-cleanup-signs-coming-to-james-a-gifford-causeway-in-peterborough-county/
  10. Yeah, always enjoyable watching the wildlife doing their stuff and lemme know if you want a couple turkey's TJ, we've got all kinds around here. Some days I have about 25 in the yard and this morning I saw a flock of probably 50 in a farm field just down the road LOL
  11. Turkey's are in full mating mode in my backyard this week LOL
  12. No idea what you're referring to John, Burleigh Falls is as gorgeous as it has ever been and in NO way looks like what your describing. I've lived here for 8 years but have camped and fished this area my entire life and it basically looks the same now as it did when I was a little kid. Here's some recent pics of Burleigh Falls and I see nothing resembling commercial land. Sorry for the hijack GJGeneral, enjoy your trip and good luck with the fishing.
  13. I'm on Clear and from here it looked like a lot of open water at the top of the lake just a few days ago and now it seems like it's skimmed over again with the colder temps. Lots of fast current and high water going thru Burleigh so I would think the area your gonna be staying will be unsafe but that's just my opinion and other areas may be OK so maybe check with whoever owns the cottage. Sorry I can't be more help but my ice fishing days ended many decades ago LOL
  14. Get in touch with Northstar Insurance, they specialize in boat insurance and are very good to deal with. http://www.northstarinsurance.ca/about-us/
  15. Congrats on the purchase, you'll be real happy with that combo. When I packed in fishing 2 years ago I sold my deep V Skeeter & 150 Yamaha but it was by far the best boat/motor I've ever owned.
  16. C'mon guys, I've been ice fishing twice....1st time & last time
  17. Thanks John, appreciate that.
  18. Thanks Tom & John I found it in tiny print on the adapter Tom, it says 100-240V - 50/60 Hz so I'm assuming she's good to go without the converter ? Thanks to you too John.
  19. Thanks Tom, on the back of the tablet it says "rated 5.1V---2.1 A Max" Does that tell you anything ??
  20. Looks like I found my answer, it seems most hotel outlets in Cuba are 220 so I need to get a converter to drop it down to 110.
  21. Hi guys, my wife is heading to Cuba next week and she's been told she needs to take some sort of adapter with her to plug in a tablet in the hotel room. Anyone know what type she needs ??
  22. My daughter has never touched a gun in her life but today is her birthday and she wanted to go to a shooting range and fire guns for the 1st time ever so that's what they're doing. I don't know where they're going but it's an hour from Mississauga
  23. This mornings news is saying 17 people dead in this latest slaughter. Really sad what's become of the U.S. where mass murders have just become the norm.
  24. I run my whole house on propane and in 8 years I've never once had to call for a fill-up. They somehow have it figured out how much everyone uses and always get there well before it's needed. They do mine every time my tanks get down to about 25%. I'm with Kelly's Propane as are alot of the folks around here and everybody seems happy with them.
  25. I live on a private road and although it's open to anyone there's a large sign as you approach the road saying it's "private and not maintained by the township" and as you say, that should absolve them of any responsibility if someone slides on the ice or anything else and crashes.
