  1. I change my picture every week or so but this is a favorite
  2. Wow, talk about a voice from the past LOL Good to hear from you Roger, it's been a very loooong time.
  3. The new propane stand alone doesn't give off huge amounts of heat from the sides or back and can be installed fairly close to the walls but throws out a ton of heat through the front vent with the fan on. My gas insert is the same and also throws out a crazy amount of heat, specially when set on high flame with the fan on and even on the lowest flame setting without the fan it's nice. My main floor is about 1500 sq. ft. and mainly open concept and it easily keeps it warm. I'd say the biggest advantage of the insert for your living room is the fact that you could probably get one to fit right in where your wood insert already is and you won't be taking up any more space like you would with the stand alone. Prices vary greatly depending on size and make but figure on probably being north of $5000 all in. Chemong Chimneys in Bridgenorth is who I dealt with and I'd highly recommend them if you're serious about switching. Outstanding company and people and I know others who say the exact same thing.
  4. Why not just buy a new rim & tire Glen and be done with the aggravation ?
  5. Thanks boyz. Steve, I hear you about not as much heat from propane and you're correct but what I like about the propane stoves is you can control the heat with the thermostat just like a furnace whereas a wood stove or fireplace can drive you outta the room until it burns down a bit. I figure once the room gets up to a comfortable temperature anything else is just too much heat. We have a big Christmas party every year and tonight's the night, and I clearly remember the 1st couple years with the wood fire upstairs and 30 people yelling at me to put the fire out...it's too darned hot in here LOL After spending the last 8 years experiencing both wood and propane stove, I find propane suits me more but obviously everyone has their own likes & dislikes.
  6. When I bought this home 8 years ago it had a wood burning fireplace in the living room and it was really nice. I found a wood supplier at a good price and loaded up. The next year I decided I wanted a stove downstairs in the family room too and seeing as I was using wood anyways I went with an airtight wood stove. It worked great and threw off enough heat that it migrated upstairs and heated the whole house. Hauling the wood 70' from the shed wasn't a problem as I like hard work anyways but I was getting a bit tired of the constant mess carrying it thru the house, specially the living room, so after 2 years I decided to switch over to a propane insert in the living room and reface the fireplace while I was at it. The new propane insert works great, looks nice and throws off a ton of heat even with the blower off so I decided to get rid of the wood stove downstairs and go with propane there too. I used it for the 1st time this past week and it's also excellent and I'm happy I made the switch. I'll be the 1st to admit a natural wood burning stove or fireplace looks and even smells nicer, but the new, modern appliances are pretty darned nice too plus I'm not constantly cleaning up the mess and hauling ashes out every few days. Simply pushing a button to start them is soooo much easier than hauling wood, splitting kindling, tending the fire and the constant cleaning. They also come with a thermostat so it's very easy to maintain a comfortable room temperature which isn't always so easy with wood. Just thought I post my opinions incase anyone is trying to decide between wood or gas.
  7. I always get a chuckle on this board when so many guys who live north of #7 somehow think they're better than city folks.
  8. Honestly can't remember the name of the place Adam, but it was on Kingston Rd. somewhere west of Birchmount. The old brain begins to fail after 1/2 a century hahaha
  9. No breakfast Sunday morning Joe but for lunch they gave us a bowl of what they called pea soup and to this day I can still remember it was the absolute foulest tasting slop I've ever had the displeasure of tasting hahaha
  10. My bud's son-in-law raped and murdered a small boy 30 years ago but that's all I'll say about that. My own little brush with bad doods happened in 1963. I was 16 years old and me and a pal were driving down Birchmount Rd. in Scarboro to get a pizza. When we reached Birchmount Arena there were cops, paddy wagons and bikers everywhere and there was a huge fight going on in the parking lot. Being the inquisitive type I parked the car to go get a better look even though my friend said to stay in the car. The cops were grabbing everybody and handcuffing them and tossing them in the paddy wagons. Guess I was a bit too close to the fun and they grabbed me, snapped the cuffs on and tossed me in too. They hauled us all up to the Birchmount & Eglinton Ave jail and unloaded us into the cells. Naturally I tried to explain I wasn't a biker, wasn't in the fight and was just a nosey kid but of course the didn't listen. Spent Saturday night in the cells with dozens of bikers and then Sunday morning they loaded us all in the paddy wagons again and off we went to the Old Don Jail where we were finger printed and tossed in more cells. I was charged with "obstructing police" and bail was set at $500 which was a huge pile of cash back in 1963. My folks were away for the weekend and couldn't be reached so I called a rich aunt who came down and bailed me out. We went to court a few weeks later and while all the bikers were sent away for extended visits in the "big house" the judge believed my tale and all charges were dropped and away I went. I never blamed the cops because it was a full blown riot down there and several cops were badly injured in the fight they did a great job breaking it up even though they grabbed me. The Old Don Jail was the worst rat hole I've ever been in and sure hope I never experience another weekend like that again.
  11. Go right to the bottom of this page, click on "theme", then click on "default".
  12. Guys that can buy all the horsepower aren't worried about the price of gas LOL
  13. Thanks Art, not a problem at all, I was just curious and actually kinda wondering if I was doing something wrong on my end with the new set-up.
  14. I've never put much importance in post count numbers but on the old board I think I was up around 11 or 12,000 but notice now it's around 9800 and am just curious if any other things will be changing, specially in our profiles.
  15. Just seeing if we can still link from Photobucket
  16. I'll try one from the computer too
  17. I was at the Lakefield service as always this morning and with it being a Saturday and the beautiful weather today there was an excellent turnout which is always nice to see. Also nice to see so many kids there too.
  18. Another tractor trailer crashed this morning, this one coming off the 427 ramp to Dundas and rolled over but it seems as if the injuries were only to the 2 in the truck and no other vehicles were involved. Sounds like the ramp will be closed for awhile incase any of you boys use it in your travels today.
  19. Way too many inexperienced drivers driving those trucks. Used to be you had to prove yourself before getting behind the wheel of those huge rigs but now it seems anybody can get a job driving them. Just take a drive down the 401 and it's unbelievable how many lousy drivers are behind the wheel and I'm surprised there aren't even more accidents involving trucks. 70-75 MPH down the road and they're sitting 10 feet behin the guy in front.
  20. Always found it crazy how often those silly bass would grab musky baits. even little pickerel will get crazy some days Never had much interest in bass fishing but always seemed to get them LOL
  21. 43 years ago my wife and I rented a cottage on Pigeon Lake. I was sitting at the beach one day reading the paper and there was a boat house there with a sundeck on top. A guy was up there with his wife and German Shepherd dog and he reached over and put his arm around the wife and I spose the dog thought he was hurting her so he attacked. He was getting some nasty bites so to get away from the dog he dove head first off the roof but instead of landing in the water he landed head 1st in a boat tied up at the dock. I ran over and the poor guy was in tough shape both from the dog bites and the 8' header into the boat. He asked me to take him to the hospital and said to take his car as it was faster so off we go across hwy 7 towards Lindsay about 70 MPH when the darned hood flies open and smashed the windshield and bashes in the the roof. Turns out it was one of those deals where pins go up thru the hood and are held in place with rings that he forgot to clip when he finished working on the engine last time. I got it part way closed and was able to get one pin in and off we go again. Get about another mile down the road and I notice it's over heating now. Dood says that happens all the time and I have to pull off the road again to get some coolant from the trunk. Finally get this guy to the hospital where he gets a bazillion stitches plus patched up from the 8' dive and eventually get him home hours later. I never met this guy before but it made for a crazy day and is something I don't think I'll ever forget.
  22. If Milton isn't too far for you, John from this board has a shop and you'll never meet a more honest person.
  23. We've been out for the last 5 hours and just got home awhile ago. The whole area is in total darkness but as I'm coming down our dirt road thru the woods I can hear the welcoming sound of all the automatic stand-by generators purring away...including mine. Power goes off and the genny fires up....power comes back on and the genny goes back to sleep until it's needed again. Everything in my house works as usual which is nice as it looks like the power will be off for about another 24 hours. Spending the $$$$ for a stand-by generator was maybe the best $$$$ I've ever spent, specially in the winter it's it's 20 below.
  24. So very sorry to hear this Cliff and deepest condolences from Diane and I. I only met Sue once but she seemed like a great lady.
