Hey Cliff, I remember posting this picture a few years back of a very strange cloud formation over my house that I'd never seen before, and you came up with a name for it right away. Hafta admit I was pretty impressed

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod
lew replied to SirWhite's topic in General Discussion
Your absolutely right Mike, everyones opinion IS appreciated, but as often happens around here, someone asks for advice on something, and folks who know nothing about it are offering advice even though it's totally wrong. RAF is 100% correct in that if you don't know how to properly do something, then perhaps no answer is better than a wrong answer. I've never river fished or even used one of those fancy type reels that you use, and when someone asks questions about that type of stuff I just sit back and let those in the know, like yourself, answer the question. As for using a spinning reel for muskies....nope. -
Awesome is acceptible Chris And thanks again everybody.

Any questions about fishing electronics, Terry's your man !!

Funny how none of us ever mind getting out-fished by our kids. My son used to whoop my butt regularily, specially with pickeral, and I loved every minute of it.

If the smaller shops have always offered a good selection of gear with decent prices and good customer service, they have nothing to worry about. The ones that didn't offer much are the ones that should be concerned. When BPS opened in Vaughn a few years back, some small shops closed but others continued to thrive because of what they had to offer to clients. JB's is a perfect example, he's just down the road from BPS but his customer service and gear selection is 2nd to none and he continues as one of the best fishing shops anywhere in Ontario, specially for musky stuff. Congrats to your son on the new job Motion, I hope it's everything he wanted

When I was a fireman in Toronto the schedule allowed alot of time off which was great as most of us worked extra jobs on the side. I drove trucks on my days off for about 25 years, plus did some house painting, drove taxis and even cleaned offices for awhile. There's always plenty of work around even though it may not be exactly what your looking for, but lots to do to tide you over until you find what your looking for. Best of luck in your search.

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod

Sadly SirWhite, that's an impression FAR too many folks have when they think they'd like to try a baitcaster. It's simply another tool in the box, and with a little bit of practice you'll be casting with no problems before you know it. Just a tool, a very simple tool, and nothing more. Go ahead and buy one and enjoy. -
Hey Phil, your gonna spoil my image posting those kinda pictures johnny, if the water temps are up in the 80 degree or above range I'll use cranks and try and focus on deeper fish where the water is cooler. Where I was fishing up north last week the water was in the 77-78 degree range for the 1st couple days, then the nights began to get quite cool and the surface temps dropped to the low to mid 70's, infact on 2 mornings the water was 69 when we headed out. 7-9 FOW is pretty consistant in that area and so the temps also average about the same overall.

Thanks Larry, but as you well know, it's not always as easy as it looks sometimes, but it means alot coming from you.

I just can't get excited about spending all day fish'n for bait though Paul

Best of luck to your Dad Mike. My closest bud for the last 30 odd years just died 2 days ago from this horrible disease.

The levels on the West Arm are down a bit from normal, I'd say maybe 8"-10", but the water is in great shape and the weed growth is excellent and VERY healthy.

Absolutely Bob, but it's hard to keep those big girls on the BBQ spit

Thanks again for all your thoughts folks. Was really hoping you woulda been up there this past June Marty. We've been talking about hooking up for a musky for a long time now but can never seem to make it happen.

Thanks for the comments guys, fishing on the West Arm is always guaranteed to be a good time.

Hi guys, I've been up at Lakair on the West Arm of Nippissing with my wife and daughter for the past 2 weeks and just got home yesterday. I haven't posted a fishing report in about 3 years so figured I was due for one The weather was excellent and so was the pike & musky fishing. I don't fish for pike myself but the ladies were sure having fun with them and caught plenty although most of them were small with a few being in the 24 inch range. Here's the Misses between hits It's un-believable how aggressive those little slimers can be and they'll hit just about anything that passes their nose including very large double 12 bucks. My daughter Sheri taking a well deserved break from a day on the water The reason I spend 2-3 weeks on the West Arm every year though is the musky fishing. Their tough to locate sometimes but when their on, their REALLY on and this year was excellent !! There was a full moon a week ago and the sunset and moon rise times were pretty close and the fish were very active in the evenings for a couple days either side of it. I boated 3 gooduns, lost another large fish about 20' out and had a 50" class follow me right to the boat on a figure 8 but then spooked and wouldn't return. 1st fish was a 48 incher 2nd fish was another 48 And the 3rd was a nice hefty 50 incher. We always enjoy our time on the West Arm and have already booked a couple weeks at Lakair again next August. Our cabin this year And the view from the deck alot of evenings For what it's worth.... All 5 muskies were encountered in the evenings near sunset. All 5 muskies were encountered in open water far away from any rocks. All 5 muskies were encountered during a brisk EASTERLY wind. Don't ever let anyone tell you fish don't bite when the wind is from the east. All 5 muskies were within 1/4 mile of each other. All 5 muskies were caught in 7-8 FOW in heavy cabbage patches. All 5 muskies were caught with a very large black spinnerbait with double orange blades. The 4 fish I hooked all hit the bait within the 1st couple seconds of the bait hitting the water. The 50 incher sliced a hole in my hand that made me bleed enuff to make the deck of my boat look like a war zone.....but it was worth every drop

Their gorgeous birds for sure and fortunately their starting to show up in the Kawarthas now too. Here's a couple pics I took 2 or 3 years ago. The pics aren't Brandon or DanC quality but you get the idea.

Always a sad day for a town when those old landmarks are lost.

Two kids down the road from me, a 12 year old boy & his 8 year old sister, took pledges both last year and again this year to shave their heads bald to raise $$$$ for cancer. Picked up a cool $5000 this year

Assuming your trailer has holding tanks for drinking water, plus another for waste water while your travelling Brian, that weight can add up real fast too at 10 pounds per gallon. I know my old trailer that I kept in the park carried about 30 gallons of drinking water plus a holding tank for waste water probably held another 15 gallons. There's 450 pounds right there. Amazing how fast weight adds up.
