  1. I'm another one that always uses dedicated winter tires and rims. There's nothing worse than having your vehicle all set up for winter driving and then being stuck in traffic behind guys who are too cheap to properly equip their own vehicle for the nasty weather and are slipping & sliding on their all seasons. The problem with making winter tires mandatory though, is lotsa folks just leave the car in the garage when the roads are bad and only bring it back out when things clear up. When my folks got up in years and it wasn't necessary for them to go out on nasty days they just stayed home and waited till things were cleaned up. Winter tires/wheels are expensive and it's tough to force them on folks who don't drive when conditions are bad...at least that's the way I look at it.
  2. Twice in the last couple weeks I've heard the weather dood on Global saying this winter will be quite cold with plenty of snow for our little corner of the world. Then last week I saw David Philips on the TV saying he expects another rather mild winter for Ontario. These forecasters are always good for a chuckle.
  3. I saw the title of your post Mike and the 1st thing I thought of was that I don't remember selling you anything
  4. Good stuff Mike, some nice fish there !!
  5. Before you quit smoking you have to be absolutely committed to quitting and if your not, you'll never be successful. Tell yourself your not gonna smoke again and then don't...COLD TURKEY. I think all the books and patches and whatever else are just crutches, sorta like trying to teach a kid to swim with water wings on his arms. I was addicted to those filthy stinkin things for 30 years but have been free for 22 years now. Back in the early days of my fire fighting career we didn't always use masks to go into burning buildings, but would often just go in holding our breath and stay as long as we could or else smash a window out to get some air then get back to work. After the fire was out we'd come outside gagging, coughing and puking and the 1st thing we'd do was light up a cigarette. Seemed normal back then but it just shows how much of an addiction those things really are. Toss the smokes away Rich and start enjoying life without them, it's not nearly as tough as you may think....as long as you REALLY want to quit.
  6. The Kahunas are nice nets, but as mentioned by Mike earlier they can be a brute to use one handed when your fishing alone.
  7. I'm the same as Mike, I always preferred the Frabil frames but found the Beckman pen bags much better. I purchased the Beckman bag & put it on my Frabil frame and it make the best all-round musky net I've used. The old Frabil bag And the new flat bottomed Beckman pen net on the Frabil frame. It's always good when you have the best of both worlds !!
  8. Then I spose your $$$$ huge, top-o-the-line, 10" gps/sonar unit sitting on your consol is just a cardboard replica eh Pete ??
  9. I've been fishing for about 60 years. I have an expensive boat and I tow it with an even more expensive truck. I use very good rods & reels and my favorite combo is worth $700. Most of my musky baits are fairly expensive and I have some worth $100 I don't buy anything cheap. I catch alot of fish. If that makes me an armchair expert, so be it. Is there anything wrong with that ??
  10. Atta boy Larry !!
  11. So very sorry to hear about your wife Bob. It's been obvious over the years how close you two were and I'm sure she'll be missed by all who loved her. My condolances.
  12. If it's on the internet Bill, it MUST be true
  13. At lest 4 times Roy, hope she's getting some kind of royalties
  14. That's great Mike, but he'll be happier when you buy that full windshield boat
  15. C'mon springtime
  16. Happened to my son when he went away for a weekend and the hot water line from the water heater split. Don't know how long it sprayed hot water into the place but it was enough that most of the plaster came off the walls plus all the carpets were destroyed. Damage was over $30,000 and they were out of the house for a month while repairs were made.
  17. I don't really worry about the limits too much as I don't keep many fish, just a few big muskies each year for the BBQ spit
  18. Even old doods have to pay for SOME things
  19. Government says I'm an old dood now and let's me fish for free
  20. That sounds like an offer Skip
  21. Lotsa helpful info there Disco !!
  22. Yup, been doing it for years, front, center & rear. Don't know if it's necessary or not but I always do it.
  23. OK, the Crestliner was 87" (I think) so I spose that 3 extra inches was enough to bump it up from 75 to 90 HP Good luck with whatever kicker you decide on.
  24. What's the boat rated for, I had a 1650 Crestliner rated for a 90 Not much difference in the length between a 1625 & 1650 but could be plenty in depth & width.
  25. And the reason I prefer fishing from my boat, MILES from the nearest stream
