Yeah we were Chris, very good buds.

Thanks for that Dan, it's an enjoyable read and actually another member sent me the same thing a couple days ago. After the vet administered the drugs to Marv, then determined that he was gone, her assistant looked at me & said "it's OK now Lew, Marvins crossed the rainbow bridge" It somehow made me feel a bit better.

Thanks for that Cliff, we were posting at the same time. And yes, he WAS a wonder dog.

Our last dog was a little poodle name Scamper that we loved just as much as Marvin and we had her for 13 years before we had to put her down. We said then that we'd never have another dog and we didn't for 8 years but then we decided that we'd do it again. Here we are all these years later and again we say no more dogs, but this time we'll stick to it. Dogs are one of the best things God ever came up with and they've sure enriched my life over the last 60 odd years, but Marvin will be the last pet we'll own.

Yeah, alot of folks got us confused LOL

Thanks once more for all the kind words folks, it really means alot and it would appear as if we have many dog lovers on this board. John....we saved a few of Marvin's favorite toys for keepsakes and one of them was the boomerang you guys bought him a few years back to play with in the water, it was one he really enjoyed. Wayne....I remember when you had the accident with your dog, that was really tagic. Joey, that dream you had is unreal but hopefully there's some truth to what you said. Marvin has been a bit old to play with Ralphie the last couple years but he sure enjoyed hanging out with him anyways.

Thanks again for your thoughts fellas but we won't be getting another dog. I've had dogs my entire life and have enjoyed them all but ole Marv will be our last.

Thanks guys, it was tough waking up this morning for the 1st time in 18 years without my pooch.

One of the toughest things a man ever has to do is make the decision to end the life of a wonderful dog, but eventually it happens and sadly, this week was my turn. Marvin was just an absolute joy to be around and I think his whole purpose in life was to make as many friends as he could. He loved to run in the woods, swim in the lake, ride in the boat and in general just really loved life and everybody he knew. He lived a long and VERY happy life and was nearly 18 years old, but lost his hearing a couple years back and then his eyesight in the last year. He still got around OK but age was catching up to him and we made the sad decision. We have a great vet that looks after him and she came out to the house yesterday to do what all dog lovers dread. He was my little buddy and he's sure gonna be missed.

Ice fishermen rescue 3 from car through ice

Well done to Mr. Ferenc !! The world needs more like him. -
Just my thoughts, but I think you may be right. Over the years I've been stopped many many times by the OPP both in the Kawarthas and up north, infact they stopped me 3 times in one weekend, and I have NEVER had a bad experience with a single police officer on the water. They've always been extremely polite and friendly to me....but then again, that's the way I treat them too.

I've had both vinyl and carpet and while vinyl is very easy to keep clean it can get extremely hot. I like to fish in my bare feet and you'll never do that with vinyl, plus if you take your dog in the boat with you, it can very uncomfortable for him too. I use a pressure washer to clean my carpet when needed and it's a simple job and doesn't take long. This of course is just my opinion but something to think about.

Their nowhere near pre-winter prices yet, but there's hope on the horizon.

Congratulations Mike, that's really impressive !!

Yamaha outboard service Brantford ares Recomendations?

Refilling the lower unit is dead easy, as is changing the plugs and if you do it yourself you'll save a bunch of money. I've got a 150 4 stroke Yammie and every fall I change the lower unit oil, engine oil, oil filter, plugs when needed and whatever else it needs and in total it's less than an hour. Dealership wants about $300 for the job. -
I payed $1.05 / litre for my home propane on January 24th and just had my tank filled this morning and it's dropped to $0.96 so at least we're heading in the right direction for a change.

Many years ago, probably at least 40 anyways, my brother and his friends were southbound on hwy 400 driving in lousy conditions similar to yesterdays. He said visibility was poor but they were driving carefully and trying to stay out of trouble. Even though visibility was bad, vehicles were passing them going far faster than they should have been, including a large passenger bus. They continued down the road a bit further when all of a sudden there was a huge orange glow showing through the snow right in front of them and they intentionally drove into the ditch to avoid it. Turns out a flatbed tractor trailer loaded with lumber had jackknifed across the road and other vehicles, including the bus were slamming into the truck and one of them caught fire which also set the lumber on fire. A car hit the wreckage right beside my brother and also caught fire and even though they did everything possible to get that driver out, the car was mangled and they watched the man burn to death. I forget how many died that day but there were several and it was something that stayed with my brother the rest of his life. Ed said it was unbelievable how fast people were driving in those lousy conditions.

Very impressive reno on your boat, really nicely done.

My wife just called a few minutes ago to say they made it to Toronto with no problem other than a few whiteouts down the 115. Different story here at the house right now though, the winds are howling and it's snowing like crazy. I don't think this crazy winter is ever gonna let up
-
Thanks for that Joe, it's nice & sunny up this way too but the wind blown snow is what I'm concerned with, that 115 can get some nasty whiteouts.
-
My wife is just leaving on a 100 mile trip down the 115 and across the 401 to Toronto, hope things aren't too nasty over this way.

Out in the woods behind the house today and came nose to nose with this little guy.

NF Hitting Deer or other large wildlife on the highway
lew replied to mercman's topic in General Discussion
If your unfortunate enough to hit a deer Paul, I think you can count on some significant damage to your car. My daughter was only doing about 70K when she hit a deer and did $7000 damage to her car. It dented the hood, both front fenders, cracked the windshield, banged in the roof then busted up the trunk lid.
