Another forum I'm on has this. Up to 300 pages. I don't get them all, some are lame, some cute and many hilarious. A great way to start a day with a good yoke. Do you have one? One of my faves. A guy goes out with the boys and gets hammered, he pisses his pants, again. He tells the guys, "My wife is going to kill me, I pissed myself, again!." His buddy says " No problem Pal. Put a 20 buck bill in your shirt pocket and tell your wife that some drunk pissed on you and gave you a 20 to cover the cleaning bill." "Great idea." he says and heads home. She greats him and flips out because he has done it again. He says " Honey it wasn't me, some guy pissed on me and gave me a 20 for cleaning." She reaches in his pocket and pulls out 2 20's not 1. "Why 2 20's you drunken fool?" " I can explain that no problem Dear, he crapped in my pants too!"

It's wonderful to see you are getting out there Big Guy. No wonder your son does the heavy lifting with those guns hanging from his shoulders. I miss getting out there with no one around, like having the entire planet to yourselves. I miss the camp we had on Crown Land on the Ottawa. Even in the dead of summer. We could go a week and the only traffic was in an airplane. When we were first dating 26 years ago my wife liked laying around with zero cloths on Hollywood Beach. That plane came by a few times a day. Oh I miss those days, and that beach!!!

I haven't any experience on the Legend to comment on the quality of that hull. It can come from a number of hull builders. I would ask who supplied the hull and of what gauge and the quality control of the suppler? And have the sales guy prove it. I have seen as many cracks in a welded hull as loosened rivets in the non welded hull. Like any other aluminium there is going to be the question of how and where it's used as in what type of water as far as leaks are concerned. Hammering 2 meter waves on the Great Lakes will degrade any hull faster than rolling down a smooth quiet river or small inland northern lake, welded or riveted. As far as Legend I agree it is an entry level vessel. 40K isn't chump change but for that much money I would consider a Lund or StarCraft over a Legend, there is more to a boat than a hull, important of course but the engine dependability is a tie and the fit and finish will drive a boater insane if it isn't great. Spend 40 grand on a boat and the glove box won't stay closed will make the Pope swear like a Sailor. Engineering and design is very important as well. Look at the difference in width of the gunnels on a StarCraft or Lund than that of a Legend. A 115 Merc 4 stroke is a very good engine, he will wish he bought a 150 in 2 years if it is rated for 150, that I guarantee. And don't tell a Honda, Yammy or Rude owner a Merc is little more than a black anchor, but now they come in more than black! Fall is a buyers market, dealers do not want to carry that inventory until spring and it is a time to get a deal. A Marine dealer will sell for below dealers cost in the off season, inventory is a killer to any dealer, Marine or otherwise. Tell your pal to shop around. There are better boats available for that money I am sure. Buy in November or later. The season is more than 1/2 over anyway, shop around.

Congrats Geoff. Going too slow on a bike can be as bad as going too fast. Something about momentum keeping it vertical. I've been riding since we bombed fields on Honda 50's at 12. The bad accident happened when I was 23, got my M at 16. Haven't even sat on a bike since. My choice and it had nothing to do with being frightened. There was enough of that running ancient Blast Furnaces when I was training. The only sound advice I can give is do not ride alone if you can help it. There is always strength in numbers when it comes to riding. A driver of an auto knows you are there when he or she can hear 5 or 10 others too. But I know that can't always be done. Make those 2 bikes as loud as you can. Keep the wind in your hair and the wheels on the blacktop.

It could be the Gold Fish scenario, small tank small fish and vise versa. . A fish can not outgrow it's environment. Then there's Waterford.Used to hold big Bass, not now. -
Just unbelievably beautiful. Thanks for sharing and making me jealous. I saved some pics and intend on painting a few. If Joey were still with us I know she would agree and would love to paint them as well.

Having such a small amount of time over a weekend to find them and then even less time to figure out what they want. That leaves even less time to catch them. I always get excited when we go to new to me bodies of water. But frustrating as Hell when we didn't catch a thing. A real slap in the face a few years back looking for Slab Crappy on a new very small lake in Upstate N.Y. and only boating a 4" Perch. The couple in their late 70's had the cabin next to us came in with a pail full twice a day. " Location, Population, Presentation" I was tempted to move into their honey hole when they were cleaning fish but just can't do that sort of thing. He had an N.R.A. sticker on his truck and didn't want to find out if he wanted to prove it.

Can bass get familiar with the same topwater frog.
Old Ironmaker replied to Bassin15's topic in General Discussion
It might be that you aren't doing anything wrong it may be the fish have left for different water. Fish migrate for many reasons. And as has been mentioned what ever bait you use it should mimic an easy meal. Fish are smarter than they look. When fish, and us humanoids, see an easy meal that doesn't take much energy to catch we both go for it 1st. Buffets and fast food places for us, a slow injured bait for fish. Sometimes something like a bit of red nail polish on a lure will trigger a fish as it looks like blood. I've read that fish are colour blind, maybe maybe not. Personally I don't think they are or they can tell the difference between shades of black & white. -
Brian I was leery to open this thread. If I read Broke Back anything I think of the movie Brokeback Mountain Ever seen it? you should. Great video though, you sure have a Pro set up there. Way to go Go Pro. Have you ever heard the saying? "You have a face for radio."

Pics, in 1998 we (Stelco Hilton Works) were looking to hire 200 hourly rated production workers. We received no less than 25,000 resumes on line. As far away as India and The Ukraine. I got pulled off of my job to help H.R. try to go through the mountain of them. It was obvious that the 6 of us were not going to be able to that and do our jobs as well. We talked about us hiring an H.R. firm to help. During the 1st meeting with one group they talked about using an auto reader to look at the cover page and if it didn't have the key words, post secondary, College, or University they would automatically deep sixed. Thrown away, trashed. I said to our guys and gal that would mean I would never be sitting with you right now if that was the prerequisite 26 years ago. We came to a compromise that I fought hard to get. Hey Pics your resume might have been thrown out if not for this Old Ironmaker, your welcomed. I drove a Larry Car and the Quench Car during the strike of 90' so maybe your not so lucky after all. Stay safe. Something many don't know. It was difficult to keep good workers up to 81'. The 1st thing we told them during their orientation was to go to the Stelco Credit Union on Barton St. and they would qualify for a 100% loan for a new car after 90 days. Many were still paying it off 20 years or more later.

Nice day you had popfish. I haven't fished there for 40 years I bet. Just want to remind you it is discouraged to divulge specific areas like Mountsberg because of it's small size. I bet the parking lot is full this weekend and guys will have white buckets full of hammer handles. I hope not. -
Boat that can be transported on top of vehicle
Old Ironmaker replied to Sketty55's topic in General Discussion
I was saying today to an old pal just the other day, "remember 30 years ago when we did whatever." He said "it was more like 45 years ago old man." It works the other way around too Brian. I"m thinking something happened a few years ago and it more like 15 yrs back. My niece emailed some pics she took when they were here with their babies. I look at them and see I'm covered in grey hair at the back of my head. At least I have hair at almost 65. 1st time in my life I am hoping I make it to my birthday Just today I see in the Obits 2 guys I went to school with. My name wasn't there. That fold out boat was smaller than your toon I bet. -
Shore fishing Lake Erie (Wheatley area)
Old Ironmaker replied to zenon11's topic in General Discussion
I live on the lake but have never fished that area from shore. Fishing is never a waste of time. Unless the kid is an infant take he or she with you. From shore here a good casting float and a drop shot set up just off bottom or a slip sinker rig with worms or shiners are usually good to get a sheepshead, silver Bass even the odd Perch. Not positive where Wheatley is, I'm thinking the west side of Long Point? On that side of the point waves are your enemy fishing from shore. Bring the kid. I'll Google Wheatley. Looks like that area has a few inlets like Holiday Harbour and the Provincial Park. .I can see those areas holding all manner of fish. Good luck. -
DIY replacement for Gas BBQ burner tents
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
You can cook anything on a BBQ, even fried eggs. Put them in a pan, ha! I seriously don't BBQ Gnocchi. I do occasionally make them with real deal Potato flour. Not exactly on a Diabetics diet. A small portion won't kill me. Was Dad's favorite so I made them every time he came to the lake. . He could scarf an entire plate of them in a sitting. His faves were from the Capri Restaurant in Hamilton. His last visit, and I thought it might be was last December the 29th. Everyone was here, all my brothers kids and spouses and their Grand Babies. My brothers were MIA. Never pass up an opportunity to be with family, for any reason. It just might be the last time one has the chance to. Dad passed 4 days after his 92nd birthday this past April the 26th. We all miss them both. Mom passed last August the 11th. I have learned most of Mom's wonderful recipes, but not all. Dad couldn't boil water but could pour a good shot of Crown. Thanks all for the info on the BBQ tents. My wife sourced them and ordered the OEM's for the Q. Thanks again all. John D. -

DIY replacement for Gas BBQ burner tents
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
That's the exact BBQ I have the side burner. The old one was an old bed frame over a lit log. But notice that is beef on there not Maple Leaf Hot Dogs. My wonderful lady saves everything including the original brochure from the thing Replacement parts are available after all. If you can't trust what a Wally World manager tells you who can you trust?Ordered the 5 tents for 80 bucks including tax and shipping, hee haaw. Bring on the succo and Gnocchi. Use the big Gnocchi or they fall through the grates! -
A B.A. degree from the 70's ?. How about the parent coming to Canada in the late 60's from Europe with the equivalent of grade 10 here? His pension is almost what his daughters bank salary is and she has her M.B.A.

Dave you don't need to explain anything to this guy. I was busting your Steel Mill balls. We actually had a young engineer back in 90' that had his degree in Forestry training as a supervisor in the Ironmaking division. I called him Bigfoot, 6'5" and a size 15 shoe. I had to special order his work boots, so Bigfoot it was. Even though conditions could be horrendous at times he said it was better than planting thousands of little trees in northern Manitoba hoping they grew into big trees where the air was thick with all species of man eating bugs. Plus his training rate was double that of his Forestry Managers. The boys had gone out for a few Ales one evening. I wouldn't let him drive so I gave him the guest room. I found him in the AM sleeping on my deck. He didn't feel comfortable with a real roof over his head as he slept under the stars for the past 3 seasons. I knew some real characters in that place.

5 years to get a 3 year degree Dave? Roachdale! That was the school where the courses taken prepared a young person to deal narcotics. There is a CBC special out there trying to explain what went on in that place. I visited once before I went to Ohio for school. The 1st ting that struck me were all the neket people walking around for the sake of Art. It was grade 13 that I smoked my 1st spliff. It was that day I knew I didn't like the stuff. My new young Dr. gave me my marijuana script. I bought some candy's from them. They were supposed to be very low in THC and high in the other stuff CB something. Supposed to suck on them for 5 minutes. It didn't do anything so I sucked on them for 30 mins, still no pain relief so I chewed the whole thing. Had my second bad trip in my life at 64 years old. They have more THC than advertised. Gave the crap away. Based on my experience the entire Medical MJ thing is a scam. Everyone in the waiting room were stoners if you ask me. The 1st thing they wanted was my VISA card number. I did 1 semester at Youngstown State, my major was offensive backfield. Went to the plant in December for a year until school started. It wasn't a full hop scholarship. I wasn't alone. 30 years latter I'm still trying to save up some money for school and many of us retired at the same time. l. It's funny, one of the first things I did after taking my pension was to enroll in Brock. I was 46 and wasn't the youngest person in class. One of the prof's asked me, "Johnny D are you here to learn or teach?"

I have a gas BBQ that is a discontinued Walmart brand. The burner tents are shot, no replacements available. The burners are like new. I was going to use steel stud 2X3's and cut them to size. I was told not to, they aren't safe for cooking on. These things all come from China and or Vietnam. You think all the steel used on them are checked for Metallurgical analysis to determine if they are compatible safe and for cooking on? I don't but don't want to slowly kill ourselves either. Any suggestions all?

I've seen big screen TV's and brand name at liquidation stores, specifically Channel Exchange in Brantford. They are scratch and dent which means scratch and broken, sometimes. They do have an exchange policy for electronics at least. I shop there every so often. Have had some super deals. Small Hyundai air compressor and 2" bradnailer, 50 bucks. 6 burner SS gas BBQ, discontinued Walmart brand, $139.00, 6 yrs old. Can't get replacement tents now though.

I went to High School in the late 60's and erly 70's, graduated grade 13 in 72'. There were drugs then, plenty of them and there were drug heads, plenty of them. I don't even know if Fentynol was even invented then. It was Acid, Speed (is that meth?) Hash and Hash oil and bags full of weed. Guys that weren't even students sold it where the smoking area was, all day everyday. I always say my friends and I were born in the right decade Akri. You could go down Industrial Drive in Hamilton, walk into the main office of any plant, apply for a job and get 1. They lasted for 30 to 40 years with benefits and a full pension. There was no such thing as a resume, if you could prove you were 18 and had all your appendages you were hired. Some guys couldn't fill out the application. I actuallt have a old friend that has 45 years of service and still working at 65, he has a young persons job that needs it not him. He complains his 31 year old son living at home can't get a job, I tell him "BECAUSE YOU HAVE HIS JOB STUPID." Besides that his kid is as sharp as a stump and is lazy plus Mummy feeds him, makes his bed and washes and folds his clothes nice, nice. Maybe he isn't so stupid after all.
