Grand Island BBQ went into receivership, it is closed and for sale. The son took over a few years back and couldn't make a go of it. Sad to see.

The ramp at the bridge behind the large empty lot that was the old marina is the Dunnville Boat Club, great ramp $10.00. As far as a undesirable neighborhood, the entire town of Dunnville may be deemed undesirable to some. Steves ramp at Fishmasters is also good at $5.00. Beware there is a concrete ledge where a trailer can get hung up on if you are too far in. Forget PT. Maitland on the weekend, might not get a parking spot.

I'm painting the fantastic pic of the wooden boats today Joey, if you are OK with that? What fantastic balance and composition! -
What's Up With Embellished Bass Weights?
Old Ironmaker replied to Rich's topic in General Discussion
Doc, That's funny. On the Ottawa years ago a few pals came in with a limit stringer of walleye. Again all nice size but they were creek chubs, nice size creek chubs. We all have to start fishing and learning at some point. -
Glad to see you are in production now Aaron. Take a close look at your confidentiality agreement with the production company if there is one. I wouldn't want you too get into "hot water" for letting the "cat" out of the bag before the shows air. Sorry pun totally intentionally made.

Banner year for Marine machanics NF
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Sorry 2+4, gas stabilizer to ensure phase separation isn't an issue with your fuel. Lew, He didn't mention 4 strokes other than always telling me to go into the showroom and buy one. -
I stopped in to see my local marine mechanic the other day and his compound was jammed packed with boats motors lined up for repair. He told me that the entire industry is swamped with repairs for 2 strokes around 10 years or older. Generally cylinder compression loss. They believe it is due to phase separation related to ethanol in older rigs. He suggested as someone here did that I only fuel up with 93 that is available from Shell and Esso. And be diligent using 2x4 or similar phase separation treatments. A heads up.
-
I was tasking to my marine guy the other day when I stopped in to get some 2x4. He and everyone in the area is swamped with repairs. The industry is reporting all types of failures due to phase separation on 10 year old and older 2 strokes. I will be spending the extra money on Esso or Shell 93 octane from here on in.

Just another storm on the lake. 80 foot Maple next door came down tonight at supper time. Knocked my chicken leg off my plate, that close. I guess the stress from the winds last night. Missed the neighbours sunroom by the thickness of a credit card. That tree was rotten hollow and you would never know it looking at it. She will be very surprised when she gets back from the cottage Monday. I will have a pile of campfire wood this year. HTML, How did you make out the other day? Haven't heard from you, something I said, or didn't say? I know I wasn't in the greatest mood, buried a friends wife Friday, found out the night before we headed out Wednesday AM at around 11. Didn't want to cancel, nothing much you can do. A friend of Dom's as well, didn't tell him until we hit the water. What are you gonna do? I really thought you were going for a swim a few times, ever thought of tying those shoe laces? I really didn't get a chance to take a good look at the Ranger, we were in such a hurry to hit the aqua. Sure looks sweet. I still say not the rig for that lake though. We had a nice soak getting in, nice to have a full windscreen, if you close the walk through window!!!!!

With boat buyers as few and far between as a shark in the desert you would think they would be willing to bend over like a girl in a prom dress, however I have found as I shopped with a pal for a new rig this past spring he'll be lucky to get a float for his key ring thrown into the deal. Doesn't hurt to ask. Please let us know what they did agree to. A hat with the marina's name on it would be a bonus today as dealers are just scrapping by on sales. Their money is in service just as are the new car dealerships. Sure is fun shopping with someone else's money.

What's Up With Embellished Bass Weights?
Old Ironmaker replied to Rich's topic in General Discussion
All walls of life have their embellishments whether it be a sport or a line of work, especially amongst guys. The formula for fish is simple x2(y3)/1.75.085X 0.2578 =¶µ> Y, or in simpler terms take the actual weight of the fish and increase it's size and weight according to the fish the other guy caught. In golf it's always a reduction as in score, in fishing it's the weight X 1.858. Or as I said increase the weight until yours is biggest. -
Taking a leak in my yard...legalities
Old Ironmaker replied to Fishnwire's topic in General Discussion
No wonder there are pages upon pages of listings for Lawyers in the phone book. For idiotic laws we have and spending millions on a judicial system to interpret those laws. As for the open container of alcohol in a public place, your property is not a public place it is private. Has anyone been fishing lately? -
Perch and Walleye Report form Lowbanks
Old Ironmaker replied to Fish Farmer's topic in General Discussion
Wonderful Dave. Perch are not hitting like before the heat wave and east winds here at Nanticoke either. Got many dinks yesterday and a few over 9". 1 former Stelco guy with me yesterday did get a beauty at 14"s. Should be 20 over 9". Love those big Erie Pickerel though, don't want any fish just leave me the cheeks please. All we talked about was prescription medicine, I'll see your 500 milligrams of Crestor and raise you 1000 milligrams of Metformin! Used to be Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll! -
That's what I thought but couldn't find it in the regs. No wonder he looked at me like I had 2 heads. I made a deal with my neighbours grandkids today. A Toonie a dozen. So what do they do? Bring me about 200 crayfish today!!!!!! I'll have to Google the rusty crawfish and see if there are any in the trap before I let them go. I layed them all off today, a lesson in supply and demand economics.

Poor day on the water for me on Erie. Caught dozens of dink perch. Only a 1/2 dozen over 10". My pal caught a beauty of a 14"er. I thought it was going to be a perfect smasher day. Wind out of the south west. All caught on pickerel rigs with live minnows. Gulp 2" Emerald shinners produced nada. Actually the dinks were hitting the bottom dead minnows. Got out after 08:00 back at 12:30. Wind started to pick up about 11:30 and got a nice shower running west into the wind. HTML was along side us and don't really know what luck he had. I didn't listen to my own advice and didn't move around much. My buddy had both hips done last winter and didn't want him to go in the drink pulling anchor all morning. He's too big to lift into the boat. When I left the spot HTML stayed. When we got around the point we hit some big swells. I hope Albert returned safely. I must say I saw him more then once lose his balance standing on that Ranger in 2' chop. We were betting on when he would be going for a dip. 74°F is better than 61°F for sure. Rangers are beautiful vessels but I still say not for Lake Erie. If going out for perch bring shinners with you to be certain you have them. Both marinas were out by 7:30. The owner of the marina went out for 2 hours 3 beauty bows and a nice 7lb Walleye. All on Dipsys and spoons he said. So that tells me he got them on the downriggers and minnow baits. He is a character for sure.

I hear you. But it can get fairly old spooning with a tackle box. Hey wait a minute I sleep with my fishfinder. She snorkels while I fish and never fails to put me onto the fish. True story. Heading to Peacock for jumbos in AM will report when home safely.

IFish, A 14'er is something you don't want to be in on this lake when the wind picks up. The boats are just not made to handle big unpredictable water. There was a recent discussion on the Channel 6-8 forum about legislating a minimum size for offshore on big water. I believe the Ministry of whoever is considering legislation, as everyone knows here in Ontario we are too stupid to think for ourselves. I've been out a few miles and kissed the ground when we docked safely here on Erie. I'm in a 19.5 deep V with a 115 HP Merc, hell I've talked to guys that were in vessels over 35 feet that had problems getting in. I've towed in many folks in a 16 footer let alone a 14, I have the dents to prove it. Some idiots had to be rescued last Saturday at Nanticoke in a canoe about 2000 yards offshore. Our brains are our best safety equipment, just some people don't have any. I have to tell you I recommend you stay off this lake with a 14 footer as the wind is going to start to pick up now until after labour day. If like glass in the AM you are probably good until 11:00 AM, them all bets are off. You can safely launch from the marina at Nanticoke and the perch grounds are only a few hundred yards from the marina in a somewhat protected bay. Same goes for Pt Dover, no need to go out as far as Burwell and Bruce.

Someone's taught her well. Good job Mopar. Must be nice to have good strong young teeth. Buy the kid a line cutter, I cringed every time I watched her bite off the line. That line looked pretty heavy for Pickerel. I have never seen a flathead, very interesting, looks like a white Pic with dark spots. Do they taste similar to Walleye Mopar?

It's been more than a few years since I have been able to get soft shelled crawfish here on Erie. No marina or lakeside bait shop carry them as they did before. The last time I asked a guy if he had any he looked at me like I had 2 heads. Does anyone know of anywhere on Erie they are sold? They catch smallies like you wouldn't believe if you can keep the sheepshead off them, almost unfair. The last record breaking Smallmouth on Erie was caught on a soft shell in NY, something ridiculous like 9 pounds I believe.

When do you have time to work Rich?
-
We personally have found shrimp to work well in the spring. Problem is my fishing pal Groundy ends up eating all our bait. You know he's eating them when he asks if I have any seafood sauce in my tackle box?. Never fished for cats in the summer but am told to find undercut banks where they hang out and fish the bank, top to bottom with a dead bait. Cut bait such as what Rich suggests. 2 schools of thought, stinky or fresh? Rich should know, he's the local big cat tamer. Or just reach in and grab one like those noodle nuts do!!!

Another idiot in TO left a child in a car yesterday. No cure for stupidity. Keep the pets cool, and that includes the kids.

When I watch a fishing show and the host has a guest on who just happens to be the CEO of the company that is the shows main sponsor and they start talking about what tire is best and what new tire they are introducing I change that channel tout suite. Then I boycott the show. Problem is that doesn't leave many shows left. I recently cancelled my subscription to WFN. I can't take it anymore. I refuse to watch a 30 minute infomercial about camping equipment. Have I digressed again, sorry Bassassin.

Rich, I've read where you can have a horseshoe surgically removed, then transplanted to an individual in need of some luck. Nice lunker kiddo. How did you make out with the Eagle inflatable people? JD
