  1. Frank, I have had 1 traffic ticket in 19 years, 10K over the limit. My insurance went down not up. Many insurance companies are different wen dealing with rate increases. It is not an automatic increase for some fines.
  2. I don't think all jurisdictions are the same for traffic court now. If I'm not mistaken the ticketing constable does not have to show up in Hamilton. A supervisor can present evidence in his or her absence. If I'm in the wrong I pay, if not I fight it. I went to court(OPP) a few years back because I was speeding but not as much as I was fined for. I talked to the Crown rep. before the hearing and she immediately knocked it down to 90 in a 80 from 110 in a 80 which meant points too. Get there early and ask for the Duty Clerk for the Crown or call the Crowns office well before hand, they don't want to pay OT for a cop to show up if off shift. They are very reasonable in my opinion. If you were speeding and got caught pay the fine. You have to go to the jurisdiction where the fine was levied for certain. One reason Smokeys down south love ticketing out of state drivers, especially Yankees and Canucks. The last time I got a ticket in Georgia I was doing 125 in a 70. MPH! I went straight to jail. A long time ago. The old joke was if Johnny D is sitting in the back seat, who's driving? ........The Cops.
  3. You would know consumer protection law in Ontario Chris as a business dealing directly with consumers. I know that it used to be that an automotive repair shop "required" you be given a written quote by law and they could not deviate from it more than 10% up or down. I don't know if that still holds true and my question would be does Marine(a) repair facilities have to abide by it also or do they have to do business under their own consumer protection laws? I'm sure there are laws this is Ontario. I would look into for sure. Good luck.
  4. I hear you Brian. Hamilton is trying so hard to be Toronto it is sickening. Why they would want to is beyond me.
  5. TRhat sure doesn't sound fair. But I am surprised you didn't get a quote first. If I don't like the quote I take my money elsewhere and I will pay 1/2 hour labour for the time to give a quote. I think that is more than fair if the quote is done in the office not by taking things apart and putting them back together. Then I make it clear before hand what a quote will cost me. Usually no charge. I would never order a steak and at the end of the meal ask "how much"?
  6. No way. He was the best. He admitted years ago he abused anabolic steroids to help heal injury quickly and increase strength. I hope it wasn't related. I have seen may athletes die too young because of juicing. Sad day. Was he Canadian? I remember reading he was I think. Sad news for sure. Shocking actually. Googled him, he was Canadian.
  7. I didn't read a report from your charter experience. If I missed it sorry. Share your experiences on the water and others will share with you. Did you get to Bing and Grand River yet?
  8. I know it is a pain but we all need to share the waterfront with non fishermen. Their taxes go towards public facilities too. If it's not public business owners will make their money anyway they can, and will.
  9. Big Cliff, Our Michigan supplier for my former Sunroom business is located in Clinton Township Michigan which is actually a suburb of Detroit. Travel to Sarnia and cross the Bluewater bridge to Port Huron. You take the highway to Detroit city and you will pass many of the factories that make the RV's mentioned here. They have literally have hundreds as far as the eye can see in the lots. Our sales rep from Detroit bought himself a full size bus loaded to the hilt direct from the factory for 1/3 of what the retailers wanted. I would go there and check them out and see what deal you can get. Even with the exchange you may be ahead with a brand new 5th or full size. I drove it once with him from Cleveland to Miami and it took some getting used to. I did not enjoy navigating it in any city had to cab it once it was parked in Home Depot that encourage camper park there. I didn't consider all the lights on in those lots, made for a tough time to get to sleep.
  10. Good news, enjoy the vacation and go get them fishies.
  11. Algae bloom is an issue here each and every year for as long as I have been coming here. That's over 50 years, nothing new. With the high water levels this year it's the first year in the 25 I've owned this place it has been so late. With the lack of wind it has floated to the surface just this morning. It has been as early as May 1st here. Farming is the reason, simple as that.
  12. Nothing is free in this province. Just take a look at what we pay in taxes to make my point.
  13. I believe giving a little bio as a first post is a great idea. I didn't here because I hadn't been on a fishing forum for years, almost 15 in fact. When I join a new forum regardless what ever the topic I give a little intro and it seems to be very well received. I don't think it's asking to much, if a new member doesn't do it well it's their choice, deleting posts because they didn't is going too far though.
  14. I use Spray 9. It will take latex paint off a wall (don't ask why I know that) but I use that stuff on tough stains on my Top Gun cover and hasn't harmed it at all. I wet the area well put o the Spray 9 for a minute and then scrub it with a brush and rinse it well. The lady that makes boat covers in Dunnville said it was fine to use as well as it is rinsed off well.
  15. That sure is a big Piggy you have there. Look at how dark it is. We were out today actually all afternoon, we didn't get on the water until 13:30. It was hot. When we docked some one said it was too hot to fish. I pointed at US Steel plant across the creek and said " now that's hot."
  16. So I guess every yard sale, garage sale and the like will have to be shut down now. I had one duffus on another fishing forum tell me that when I trade my home made pasta sauce for fish cleaning by a lady where my boat slip is I am supposed to pay taxes on the worth of the fish cleaning as it was income. Guess what he was? Yep, a By Law officer. And he was dead serious. This world of ours sure has some problems but kids selling worms?? Come on man! A few years ago if you can recall the health dept's in Ontario were cracking down on service clubs and Churches for preparing and selling foods like cookies and pies not made in commercial kitchens that were not approved by the Gov. Another, Come on man!
  17. Ah man that's no fair. I had Tomato salad with a can of cat food in it (the can said Tuna ) .
  18. The best price on anything is free. Good score. That is a great price for a wind turbine. I imagine you would be able to use the same battery bank for both the solar and wind power. 2 for 1 special. I have a beat up body after years of abusing it both on and off the job, not social abuse. Ice, ice and more ice. Some for the joints and muscles and the balance for the Mojitos'.
  19. Great to follow your solo project. Do you not have any friends up there to lend a hand? It really doesn't look like you need any help though. Dave just curious why you chose pink over Roxul, which I loved working with or even a closed cell insulation spray. One small tank of spray is easier to transport and will give you almost double the R factor for the same depth if I remember correctly and no vapour barrier required. It's been a while since my last heat loss calculation. I do remember that 30% of heat loss is through the floor so even just spraying the floor alone would be worth the R.O.I. Have you considered a Wind Turbine at sometime. I'm sure you have the wind rates to support one. The last I looked 50K would get you a system that has an ROI of 15 years. But that's for a full time residence and yours is not, yet. I need more than Advil just thinking about what you are accomplishing. More pics please. Keep up the good work.
  20. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Brook Trout and a Trouser Trout so I am of no help, but welcome to the forum regardless. Where is Batchewana?
  21. Thanks for the memories Brian. I'm saying through the entire slide show " I had one of those, there's Dad's 55 Chevy, there's Rick's 57 and on and on. Thinking about how many of those rides I scrapped or sold for 100 bucks makes me cry. My favorite is probably the Triumph GT6 probably because I drove one in High School. Because of my pain issues I'm seriously thinking about selling the boat. (1 day on the water equals 3 days resting). I would then pick up a classic car all done on the cheap compared to what they were going for before 08'. There is a sweet butter coloured Belvedere convertible in Dunnville that I would love to have. My pal out here just picked up a solid 1929 Dodge with rear suicide doors we are going to finish over the winter. He has already put in a modern suspension all around with disc brakes and is dropping in a 76 Corvette L88 I have in his barn.
  22. If what I have read and been told is correct every Walleye in Nip is there as a result of stocking by human hand. If the Pic population is wiped out it may be Mother Nature saying "don't mess with me."
  23. I have many relatives just over the ditch in Western NY. A discussion just this past week centered about requirements for boaters on each side at a family get together. As I understand it in order for a Canuck to boat in US waters certain safety requirements and a permit/sticker must be visible to US Coast Guard. I can't seem to find such requirements in the quagmire that is the US Gov. websites. I was thinking about launching in Chippewa and heading to North Tonawanda and docking at a my Uncles place on the Erie Barge Canal in a pals 28 footer. I have always wanted to do that since I was a young kid, now I can, maybe. Anyone here hear of such requirements.? Thanks for the heads up Bass fighter on entry requirements, I know there is one of those landlines at the top of the cliff at one of the trailer parks in Lowbanks. I will find the name of it. Got it, Highland RV Resort/905-774-8082. A very nice place if you can make it up a few hundred stairs from the beach. Johnny D
  24. I don't know what is definitely is but I can feel your pain. It could only happen a week before vacation. I was ready to sell or give away my boat this morning when we pull up to the ramp and my motor won't tilt. Only a bad battery so I count my lucky charms. I t could be worse my friend. As someone once told me "at least you have a boat to fix".
  25. Rick I applaud you for your unbiased, rational and intelligent views of this situation and others when it comes to First Nation issues. First Nations members are not Indians, Indians come from the east not Canada for God sakes, this is 2015 not 1715. I find that word offensive to both Indians and First Nation peoples. Having said that I do not think it fair for only you to argue on the side of any First Nation issues here. There was an individual, of who's name I don't recall, that usually gives us the point of view of NFN as he is a member. This issue had been talked about for many years now. At least the NFN have a closed season on netting now. It is a first positive step forward. And I have to say it's easy to say to someone who's livelihood is in jeopardy to say, " Move and get a different occupation". Easy to say very difficult to do. Many outfitters have their life savings tied up in their camps. For some it's all they have done since a child. I would not go quietly into the night, as I am sure most of us wouldn't.
