I had a boat stolen, rant/ vent included
Old Ironmaker replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
This thread has taken a big turn. I can only comment on what have seen personally. A few years ago I;m fishing in NY with some family that live there. My cousin that is 28 is getting into the van to go to town and get some minnows. as he is getting in to the van I see he has a small handgun on his belt under his shirt. what the hell is that thing for Tony? I have a conceal permit, For what I ask and he says because his job entails carrying cash on him. He delivers freaking Pizza's for God sakes. You need to carry a gun to buy minnows? This kid drinks too much, smokes too much and has small man syndrome. I always thought NY was the toughest place to get a gun permit let alone conceal. Maybe he didn't have a permit, I believe someone when they tell me something usually. But no way this kid should carry a gun,, legal or not. I did move from Hamilton when gunfire became a thing you heard weekly 15 years ago downtown behind city hall. The only gun deaths in my county in 15 years is 2 and both were hunting related accidents. Last year I think it was a young woman's car broke down and her cell phone didn't work. She went onto the porch and knocked on the door. She was met by an elderly man that shot her dead. Philly I think. No way I want it any different than it is now where I live. This debate can go on forever. If I need a gun to go out I move or as I do in Florida I don't go out after dark much anymore there, sad really, the streets change once the sun goes down there and everyone I know there has a gun, young and old. -
Proctors and Bay City all the way. No Bull and great service, I have dealt with both in 30 years.

Chris, the Crown charged him? Not a civil suit? I wonder if the Crown Attorney went to law school? At 60K a year what do you expect? A Lawyer I know says if you can't get a clientele become a Crown or manage a McDonalds. Every time I hire someone to do a roof I ask, " Are you a Lawyer?" There are as many Lawyers that graduate from Law School every year then Lawyers practicing law. I use a capital L for the good Lawyers, there are a few. -

Any one can bring civil charges like an intruder that got the snot beat out of him. I kicked the crap out of a guy that insisted in drinking and driving, I forcibly took his keys away in the 90's. He tried to sue me for 100K. The case lasted one morning before the Judge threw him out. I represented myself and had 6 cops and an Assistant Crown as witnesses and expert opinions. I can't see the Crown charging a homeowner with assault for kicking the crap out of an intruder. Now shooting dead an unarmed intruder may be a different story. A homeowner in Hamilton across the street from Tim Horton's stadium shot dead a kid for stealing his tomatoes from his back yard in the early 80's. He waited in the dark armed with a shot gun. He was charged and was acquitted of most of the charges. He basically got away with murder. That would have a different outcome in 2015. -

J. Edgar Hoover said it his entire life " there is no such thing as the Mafia". It is definitely a violation of someone when you are a victim of any crime. As far as defending your property? Criminals drunk, stoned or sober generally carry weapons, you want my "stuff" here are the keys. You want to harm my family? "Well officers I disarmed him and used his own handgun to kill him." There is no such thing as shoot to injure, it's shoot to kill or don't point a weapon. I think this is the first thing a cop is taught when he is given a handgun. Now if you want to join a group that have members that are highly trained to defend Canadians join The Canadian Legion. -

Boat crash on Scugog injures 9 including infant baby.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Not much more info this AM on this crash other than a much larger boat collided with a smaller vessel. I have to mention the guy that swam out and rescued the baby that was trapped under the 2 boats is a real life hero in anyone's books. I hope they publish his name but a guy like that usually doesn't want recognition. Quite a few near misses out here on Erie this weekend. We went for a nice boat ride Saturday and turned back after an hour as it was a Zoo out there. Some jerk was bombing around on a yellow SeaDoo jet boat coming too close to swimmers at Turkey Point last weekend. Someone got a good pic of the guy but the hull numbers couldn't be seen. I guess all hell broke loose out Pt. Burwell way when a boater cut off a guys lines and he lost 2 downriggers when this duffus ran full speed across his stern. Can't fix stupid but I'd like to try some days. -
Boat crash on Scugog injures 9 including infant baby.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
We boat here on Erie, a fairly large liquid desert. Some weekends it's like the 401. If someone sees another boat fishing they have to pull right along side. Don't follow me unless you want a limit of farm animals. Then you have to dodge the commercial boats dropping boxes. Just today a guy pulling kids on a tube thought it was a good idea to zoom through all the guys trolling. Nuts, please take care. -
Got it Rick, I should citizens arrest the duffus. PM me some Bocconcini please. Waiting for Ticha to go for a boat ride, man it might be dark by the time she's ready.

Ah,,, I can't paste the link. 2 boats collided putting 9 in hospital after crash on Lake Skugog the Hamilton Spectator reports yesterday. The 6 month old infant was trapped and a witness swam out and rescued the baby. That's about all the article said other than the others were plucked from the water. Typical Spec reporting not all W5's answered. Does anyone have anymore info? . There's plenty of room out there on the water but it happens. I pilot a pals 28 footer and another buddy's 23 foot Cuddy and the sightlines are terrible unless on plane and even on plane the 28 is tough to see deadheads and fishing nets when they come up fast. So I only go as fast as I feel comfortable which of course for the 20 somethings on board isn't fast enough. Maybe I need a booster seat? Is what I say here a problem for all big boats without a fly bridge? Any tips to share? Johnny D

Like I always say I don't use those smiley face things or acronyms so sometimes when I say something stupid I might be trying to be funny or I'm just saying something stupid. It came across wrong. Sorry, keep the recipes coming. I know how M2B2 can feed a family of 14, he's the head of one of the five NY FAMILYS !!!!! The second comment was being sore, a crumungeon old and grumpy.

For both glass and aluminum get a bottle of McGuire's de-oxidizer liquid , blue bottle. No need to wax and the finish will come up to a brilliant sheen. A small amount is all you need. I did an entire 28 foot cruiser with only 1/2 bottle, the other 1/2 did a 23 foot Cuddy with some still left. 20 bucks a bottle. Great stuff. Follow the instructions. I use a power buffer for putting it on then hand remove and then polish it with the buffer. 4 10" buffer pads at Princess Auto $7.99.

Rick with all those mouths to feed I have no idea how real Mozzarella can be in your budget. It's about a buck a Tim Bit size piece from the store, that's why I make my own. That would be 20 bucks in just cheese for 2 pizzas. Please review my budget for me, you are doing something right. Never ask a thin man his opinion on food. I am going to say something here that won't be taken well.

Fishing the St. Lawrence, near cornwall
Old Ironmaker replied to Cloudy15's topic in General Discussion
That isn't good Mike. Good on you for that offer. It's what is done on OFC. -
mr blizzard, Bocconcini is simply Tim Bit sized Mottzarella. They also make mini Bocconcini. The real deal Mottz. It's really the only thing to put on Pizza. Saputo Cheese out of Montreal manufactures it for pizzerias, restaurants and retail sales. I hope you can try it there on the top side of the world. Always a must for a good antipasti, drizzled in EVO.

If there is air entering the fuel line would it not leak gas when primed and not running?

It's a coincidence but I had to stop reading this thread. Since I did I dropped 10 pounds I swear on the graves of my ancestors. Rick 2 dozen heirloom tomats would cost me a weeks pension around here. The succo looks great. Try the giant shells and stuff them with the gravy and bake them covered in Bocconcini, not that silicone sealant they call Mottzarella in Ontario. With heirlooms they deserve the best cheese. It isn't cheap that's why you need to learn how to make it. It's easy peasy. I bet Mom might know how. I make it every 3 months or so. I love it when they raise the prices of meat equal to the price of gold, then drop it by 50% and we scammer for the "deals". Just like gas this AM. Line ups in town at 06:00. Yea I know what 6AM looks like once and a while. I have scored on eye of round this year a few times and sliced into steaks and did the 100% virgin olive oil marinade I learned here on this thread. 3 days covered 100% in PVO. It works, as tender as inside round, not NY strip but still amazing for that cut. Made a wicked Beef Bourginon (sic) and Hungarian Goulash. Great for Philly Cheese Steaks too.

Cast # 578...help me hook up a muskie before #1000
Old Ironmaker replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
I'm no Musky guy but I do remember Dan trolling in the 3, 4 and up to the 5 mph range. I'm looking at heading back to the Nipissing West Arm this fall and would love to give it a shot myself without spending big bucks on the bricks they cast for those beasts. Trolling a harness I can do. I was thinking about using my 7.5 and 8 foot down rigging and Dipsy rods spooled with braid and a wire leader. Is that doable with those rods and line counters? -
How long should a 12V battery last for Helix-5 SI GPS?
Old Ironmaker replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
I never had problem running my bow mount FF of a deep cycle. As well my 2 others are run directly off my cranking battery. No interference at all. I did shroud the wiring through a conduit. I just have to remember to check my amps when running them when I use the kicker to troll and not running the 115 for hours at a time. I got stuck with a dead battery once. Enough to run all electronics and live wells but not to crank. I run a portable Eagle Ultra with 2 @ 6 VOLTS for a week on a tinny or icefishing. Looks like a bad battery, have it tested at CTC, no charge. -
Any chance someone here on OFC has the tool? You pay for shipping and return it. They engineer vehicles now so it becomes virtually impossible for a DIYer today, they sure make it tough. I have a pal that has a Quonset hut including hoist with every tool ever made I think. He did work for friends and family regularly. He has about had it with the way newer cars are made today, he hates saying I can't sorry but he is saying it more and more everyday. It took us a few hours to change his daughters battery in her 03' Chrysler Intrepid because it was buried in the fender behind and below 1/2 the engine, crazy.

Man the guy receives a cheque for what was it 500K ? and starts listing how he is going to help others with the money without batting an eye. A real winner in my books. I won't say who in case it would be a spoiler for those that may have missed.

It's on right now, the first I have ever seen and the last episode to boot. I don't want to watch so I can see reruns.

Some very scary reading there woodenboater. I think all of us current and former landlords all have our bad or even horror stories but having said that all of these stories should not dissuade any future individual from trying the property management route. It can be very rewarding when done right and lucrative. These experiences should help anyone considering it like Pete to go into this venture prepared and educated. One thing I have learned that is if you rent out a slum you will get the same clients that some of these landlords dread. They always don't start out as a slum but can be after a bad tenant, fast. Without backup resources or personal skills repairs aren't sometimes doable and the property suffers. The biggest thing for a prospective landlord must have is a great customer relations personality or basically being able to work with people in a calm professional manner. Be able to get along with people without being a pushover nor have a personality that can be confrontational at all. Those are 2 things in ones personality that anyone renting property to strangers, or even friends can have at all. I had a pal who's cousin and his own daughter do a "midnight move" on him, of course they were behind in rent a few months when they booked on him and the rent. That was very tough on him, his own daughter. He unfortunately passed away on us this past winter and I know the stress of this property he had contributed to his poor health. He is the last person I would consider a people person and he did it after telling him my opinion and telling him of the situations I have had over the past 30 years.

Something that has always incensed me since they all started doing it is that when ever there is a photo op they always surround themselves with people of as many visible ethnic people that will fit in the photo or video. The same goes for who sits near them in Parliament during question period. All three do it, May doesn't because she doesn't have any backbenchers or she would too. It insults my intelligence.
