Wind turbines to go at Sandbanks Park
Old Ironmaker replied to KLINKER's topic in General Discussion
I have no objections of the use of Wind for energy, we have come to live with them out here, we are surrounded by them in Haldimand and Norfolk. We have 3 of these giants close enough I can hear them at times. Whoop,,,,,,whoop,,,,,,whoop. They don't bother me, they might help me get to sleep at night if I can hear them from inside, of which we can not. What is asinine is the rate our wise leaders are paying for the energy, about a buck per KWH was the last number I read rather than the market rate of 10 cents per KWH. This was in the works for many years. She can't take all the blame, one would never think that She would adjust the ridiculous rates the non Canadian companies get paid for a kilowatt hour of electricity. -

Hamilton Bassmasters swap meet, who's going?
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
OK it's a go for tomorrow after some tough negotiations with the lady I work for. I am looking for 2 of the smaller planner boards i.e. Church brand. If anyone sees a few let me know by raising your hand or call me on my home phone number which is now my cell #. See you in the AM. Don't forget about the secret OFC meeting at noon. I wonder if young Christopher is setting up a table? I haven't seen him posting here any longer. -
Tips for catching carp in the grand River?
Old Ironmaker replied to Garcia96's topic in General Discussion
When they spawning here on the lakeshore where we are you can just reach down and pick up a female after she's spawned out. They are here by the thousands, maybe tens of thousands and once they finished spawning you won't see on for a year. I have tried and tried to catch them here but when they are spawning they won't touch a thing. They are great for the gardens. I have seen a few "Carp" pros along the lake at the mouths of feeder creeks catch them pre spawn. They have all the bells and whistles to nab one. Good luck to you. They are fun once you have one on that's for sure. 20 pounds of muscle, or more. The few I did have on the lines wore and broke from their epic runs over the rocks. -
Kawarthas Houseboat Trip Question
Old Ironmaker replied to FishFinder17's topic in General Discussion
That's a lot of Testosterone on a small boat. I hope all 11 of you come back together in one piece. I went with 2 other couples years ago and it wasn't fun at all. I guess it all depends who is going. I felt like I was locked in a very small jail cell for 4 days and nights with a bunch of idiots. If I hear the song "Feelings" all I can remember is me throwing the 8 track into the depths of Lovesick Lake. Keep your eyes out for the OPP, they love inspecting boats will 11 guys on them. Have fun boys and no fighting and no Barbra Streisand. -
And I know guys swear by them. I swear at them.

The jury is still out on the Live Target lures. I finally broke down last year and got myself a 20 buck Perch Live Target. Not even a farm animal (Sheepshead) hit it longlining for Walleye here on Erie. I'll keep trying I need to get some return on my investment. If my accountant knew I spend 20 beans on a lure she would not be happy with me.

Gluvit is well worth the price considering the labour and materials for ripping out the inside of a boat with a marine plywood floor etc. If you are going to have plywood touching anything made of metal make sure the plywood is treated with something like spar varnish. The 19'er we are doing I bought some Ice and Snow shield and just cut strips and laid it on the edges of the marine grade plywood or anywhere it would touch the aluminum. If you are going to replace the transom after you remove anything that is holding it in just Sawsall the transom out. I can't tell if it is all wood or a combo of both wood and Al. Put a few or more coats of Spar varnish on 100% of the wood for sure. A great resource for marine repairs is the boating forum on iboats.com

Bubba Watson hits his driver 400 yards. It is pink too. His "Man" card and manhood is firmly intact. I have a few salmon coloured shirts and sweaters, some might say they are pink, so what. Colour has nothing to do with femininity. I really don't think you are going to find a pink downrigger rod though. I have never seen one after long lining and downrigging for 35 years. Save yourself the headache and gas money and paint one pink.

Buy a spray can of paint. Acrylic latex actually and prime it first.

10 years. He should have gotten life for each person he murdered. But the crown only asked for 10 to 12. If he had not paid his taxes he would have got more. He will be out in what 3 or 4 and then he doesn't need to drive, that's what chauffeurs are for. I really hope he has a great time on the range. I'm sure there is a welcoming party awaiting him. His family is going to have to pay off every gang where ever he ends up. In the old days rich guys in the bucket could hire a guard dog, I don't know how it really works now. I hope he really enjoys himself for the next few years in there. Child murderers haven't faired that well in the past though, good luck Goof.

Way to go Brian!!! Now I want seafood and not the Prime Rib I scored yesterday for $5.99/lb at Food Land. A tip I got from watching Lydia Bastianich, don't rinse off the slime from seafood, it is the sweetness in the shrimp, calamari etc.

What's the purpose? Just tie a line to a car and have someone drive away. You aren't going to land the car either. When I had a dog I would tie the line to her collar and play fetch in the basement in the dead of winter. Good way to set up the drag and see exactly how much line is going out when the reel is screaming.

I have a 21 year old Sunbrella mooring cover. I clean it every year with soap and water and treat it every 3 years with 2 cans of Scotch Guard and restrung it once. And have replaced a few grommets. The proof is in the pudding. I would stay away from plastic tarps as they may cause more problems than they protect the boat.

Is a vehicle lost through the ice covered by Insurance?
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, I have never seen anything like that from my Broker in 43 years of buying auto insurance. Great link thanks. Now I have a duzzey of a headache. -

Is a vehicle lost through the ice covered by Insurance?
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
That's really cool, and I was going to mention Pike Mike was one of my favorites. As well as the young couple that got married last season. When is your show coming out, "How to build a Arctic Mansion with 2 hands only". Some good advice but how would anyone know what coverage they actually have until you ask and get it in writing? The policy may show what is covered but what doesn't tell you what has to be in place in order to have a claim paid out. Nowhere on my policy does it say anything about how far from a property a tree limb must be in order for the provider to pay out a fire claim. The only reason I know this for a fact is because I was told by an insurance inspector who did an onsite perusal. My policy doesn't tell me, same as a railing needing to be to code in the case someone falls off the deck and I would be covered for their loss. No "Grandfathered in" scenarios when it comes to insurance providers I was told. It is my responsibility to ensure my place is to code. If I hadn't have been in construction I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to what or what is not up to code. Common sense usually tells someone if a "to code" railing is needed. Just 1 example. -
I subscribe to MNR watch. Several poachers have been charged and convicted for various offences in the Nippising district in the last while which is good to hear. This guy that was charged and convicted actually beached his boat in North Bay and a foot pursuit took place with his booty in hand and a C.O. in quick pursuit. If you haven't signed up to get news via email from MNR Watch an independent source and you are an avid, or not, fisherman or hunter there is good information there. It was recommended to join this site by Mr. T.J. Quesnal sometime ago. Here is the link. http://mnrwatch.com/2400-fine-for-taking-lake-nipissing-walleye-of-prohibited-size/

Is a vehicle lost through the ice covered by Insurance?

Drifter, one of my wife's favorite shows is Ice Road Truckers. A cliffhanger every commercial break, no one ever goes through the ice. So I guess some do. It seems every other TV show on the specialty channels are about Alaska, the Yukon, NWT and all the ice roads where M2B2 lives or any other God forsaken cold place. And 2 inches of ice where you are in when June? Is the same 2" of ice that idiotos take their new Audi 8's out onto here. An inch is an inch except when measuring fish or trouser trout. One of my faves up north is where the crazy folks live on house boats on Great Slave or is it Great Bear Lake in the dead of winter. Apparently if they aren't docked laws of the land don't apply. And of course Gold Rush. The one where all the Americuns think the Yukon is part of the USA. -
There are only a few things lower than a thief. This has the smell of a scam, but for only 1 small used boat? I can see setting up a fake transport company in a city and making off with a few high end vehicles then closing shop. All you need today is a cell phone and a website and you can make it look like a big outfit. I have seen some very elaborate lengths some people will go to con good, even very smart people to relieve them of their money to make a few big scores. I lost a good chunk of change years ago. I wonder how the boat owner came to hire Skyway Transport?
