  1. Look around but in total, you should expect to pay about 1200-1400 bucks for the lawyer and related fees. Things to remember, is there a recent survey of the property?? If not, maybe try to work that into the deal. Also, a home inspection with you hovering over the inspector asking lots of questions should be a must. Depending on how old the house is, aluminum wiring, knob in tube, sump pumps, age of roofing, windows, plumbing, kitchen, washrooms etc... etc.... etc..... Lots of factors involved. Having been in sales for 11 years, I believe that the past few years, real estate agents have had it easy. Listings that sell in hours don't justify the fees that are charged, but, in sales, take it whenever you can get it.
  2. Make sure you catch a biggun for him.
  3. Encourage him to take the treatment, he'll have a fighting chance, I'd take 50/50 any day if it meant being able to watch my kids grow up and have their own kids. Be strong for him and be there for him and your mum. If you are going to lose it and break down, don't do it in front of them if you can. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  4. Just make sure you get something bigger than you currently need, that way you can fill it up as you visit local tackle shops and buy more baits and the like.
  5. I'm trying to set up a pilgrimmage to the Cabela's in Dundee Michigan one of these days to check it out and give my credit card a workout. Good to hear you saved a bundle.
  6. Ditto on you get what you pay for. A reel that goes for $80 + will last you for years if you maintain it, and that's the key, keeping it clean and lubed and you'll have no problems. The number of bearings is not as important as the quality of the bearings and gears.
  7. It would have been good to send the cleithrum (sp.) bone from the head of that musky to Dr. Casselman who's studying muskies in Ontario. If anyone finds a dead muskie, keep that in mind. You can probably get more info from Muskies Canada as to where to send the head or if someone will pick it up from you.
  8. Make sure you use a quick strike rig, pretty much a 4/0 ive bait hook with a big treble hook stinger attached by wire (35lb+ test). That way you ease the risk of deep hooking the pike and killing it. Also, a leader of either wire or flurocarbon leader material (50lb+ test). A medium heavy or heavy spinning rod with at least a 2500 size reel and you're good to go. Good luck!!!
  9. Change both the pads and the rotors. Get the best parts you can afford esp. with the pads. I'd get someone who knows what they are doing to take care of this job because the emergency brake can be tricky. Good luck.
  10. + 2 on the PVC tubing. Shove an old tea towel in the bottom and another for the top and your rods will be fine. I have an 8ft and a 4ft for all of my rods. As for my reels, I keep them in their boxes in a gym bag along with extra line, lube, etc.... I need something better and that reel case from BPS that Lew mentioned looks mighty fine.
  11. Built Dodge Tough!!! I guess he realized that a Bayliner is like AIDS, you can't get rid of either!!! (no offence to any Bayliner owners, it's a joke that a buddy who used to own one always said). He can collect on insurance now. Poor bugger.
  12. Good luck to you and your family. And good luck in your new endeavours.
  13. Cliff, Why don't you put an ad in the paper and list it for $7-800/month with a 1 year lease. Another idea is $750 for the week and $400 for the weekend in the summer. If you find a half decent tenant you'll be fine as long as you lay out the law from the outset AND ON PAPER. You can pick up a standard lease from Grand and Toy, any changes, make sure you write them on the lease and have BOTH of you initial them. You keep the original and the tenant gets the photocopy. Go with your gut when you meet someone, that has served me the best over the years, my family has had rental properties for pushing 40 years, I've been involved since I could walk. I have seen everything from grow ops, non payers, general scum but for the most part, good honest hardworking people.
  14. Honda's are great!! We had an '03 Element that was fantastic but when the family grew, we grew out of it. From what I've heard lately is that Toyota is starting to get a bit too big for their britches. Their vehicles are starting to have Big 3 type problems, ie. rattles, engine and transmission issues, trim, fit and finish and the like. Thank God I'm not in the market for a new vehicle this year or for the next 3 years or so for that matter. I'm not too impressed with what's out there.
  15. Stradic is great, I've got one (2500 size) as well as a couple Sahara's (1500-for jigging and 2500) and a Quantum Energy PTi 30 which should be good for any pike I run into. Just make sure you buy a good reel, don't skimp out because you don't want to have a cheap reel fail out in the stix. Paired with a 6'6" or 7ft rod in Medium Heavy power fast action, you'll be good to go.
  16. $20 each sounds about right. I'll second that the reel performs much better. It's a good investment.
  17. Yup, too bad, he was one heck of an actor. I was watching something over the weekend about Michael Moore's movie and Charton Heston being misquoted and set up. That guy is a jerk!! Before anyone starts on the gun policies of the U.S., remember a bit about their history, if some people did not have guns back in the 1700's, there would not be a US of A.
  18. Happy B-Day!!! May you have many more!!!!
  19. Jeez!!! I am not a snake lover, that's for sure. I saw one in a glass case at the zoo and that was enough for me!! I don't want to run into one out in the bush, I'd probably have a heart attack.
  20. Quantum without a doubt!!! I have the older Energy PT and the current Tour Edition PT. They are awesome, they have great drags and are very very smooth. Also, with Daiwa, if you have warranty or repair issues, I've heard they can be a bit slow, quantum is fast. The Accurist PT is the model with the flippin' switch. The Energy PT is a step up from that one.
  21. Who rents on Rice for 50bucks?? I'm in for that this summer.
  22. Asking most people for money for something like this would be a waste of time!! It would cost tens of thousands of dollars to fight with good legal representation. People care up until you ask them for some money, once that happens, they tend to disappear and not be heard from again. It's unfortunate but it is human nature.
  23. Happy b-day!!! You don't look a day over 25 (LOL)!!! May you have another 46 healthy and happy years!!
  24. Try to let her have some time for herself, send her to a day spa so she can get all gussied up and to feel pretty again. Give her a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to the rants and raves. Be patient. For you, try to get out and catch some fish whenever you get the chance.
  25. The Pete Maina's are great value for the money. BUT, they are focused towards Muskie/big Pike. If you want something for bass, get another combo. Stick to at least a Medium/Heavy fast action rod for general purposes for muskies. It will be too heavy for a bass rod. If you want to target muskie, you are going to need specialized rods/reels, bass gear will get torn up pretty quickly. Also for muskie, stick to a minimum of 65lb braid.
