  1. My Mom teached me good Thanks every one. That fish only made a short run and floated to the hole, good job I had my gaff with me because I don't think I could have got him up through a 6" hole. Didn't fight much, must be because of the cold water or what ever. He came through like a bullet. Only in 4 1/2 FOW looked like it was 50 Lbs. looking down the hole. Fish was 34" long
  2. Huts were off but lots of people were out. We stayed in close and caught some nice Perch, not lots but a good feed and a few bonus Pike. Other buds that were with me caught 1 and I came up with this nice one. I caught it on 2 LB test and a Micro jig with a Gulp Maggot. Good job I had my gaff to get it up the hole. The ice was do-able, but I don't think it's going to last. Crack at shore we crossed no problem, just had to watch where you crossed. I took a plank down there but we didn't need it. But if anyone is going in the next few days be careful.
  3. As you mention, I was always tightening the screws in the boat till they stripped then had to make a new hole. You made my day about your comment about the Alumacraft A limit of Bass or any species of fish in those small Live-wells is crazy. Try and put a 50" Muskie in one to revive or any big fish. These boat company's should have an option thing, big live-well on big rod locker. I like to use a live-well as a Big cooler sometimes.
  4. I've got the vinyl in one of my boats, it's great, the only thing is when it gets hot out in the sun, the vinyl gets soft and will puncture easier with anything that maybe sharp, Like a stone caught in your shoe or what ever. In the cold it can get slippery with snow or water on the floor. Just a heads up. Other than that, it's easy to clean with a little Spray-Nine, brush and hose out.
  5. Don't buy a Princecraft, I've had 3, Good boat in a pond but not in big water, they fall apart. Aluminum rots paint peals off. What they cover up with carpet and wood, you would be shocked for what you pay. Not saying others are any better. Bottom of there boats are to flat and can't take the waves. Keel of the front of the boat is way back from the nose, no boat in contact with the water, nose dips in the waves. Live-well over fills back into the boat. They make them to look pretty just like some lures us gullible fisherman buy that don't catch fish. For what it's worth, I've been looking at Alumacraft. The Navigator has got my eye because of the big live-well in the front. Most boats now have small live-wells that they replaced with rod lockers down the middle. If you gots the money, I'd go Kingfisher or Stanley, now your talking. If you like, I can show you some pictures of under the floor, you would be shocked at the workman ship. Had the one boat in for rivet repair 4 times.
  6. Thanks everyoneRob, I would say about 1 KM and the ice was good for walking, cleats were a must. Good luck if you get out.
  7. Way to go Joey, at least you caught one. I've got to get out there again, hoping the walk is better than my last trip out in a foot of water-slush.
  8. Just curious Bill, how old was the gas, just a thought. Gas has only a 30 day shelf life. Maybe that was the cause?? Mechanic at Bay City told me that old gas will melt your pistons.
  9. Three of us went to St. Williams Sunday and each brought home 15 to 25. My biggest was 14" We fish past the huts and a little west, away from the crowd. Used a micro jig with a Perch eye and also used a Buckshot that caught some of the bigger ones. Ice was bare and made pulling the clam out a breeze.
  10. This is what started my day when we arrived, you've got to be kidding me. After getting inside my buddy says 19 bucks to get in, I said right, your joking, then I looked at the sign and I couldn't believe myself, "19 BUCKS to get in the door to save a few bucks to buy something. 33 dollars down just to get in the door. Now I tell myself it's a day out. I walked around looking at a few tackle dealers and a bunch of fill-ins T-shirts and Hot-tube booths. I went there to look at fishing boat but I was disappointed in the models they had. I bought a few lures, buddy's didn't buy a thing just looked. They suggested to go for a beer and some pizza in the refreshment area. 8 something for a beer and 4 something a slice of pizza. A lady comes over and asks if we mine helping with a customer survey about the show, buddy's said Dave, you tell her. I told her I wasn't blaming her that she didn't have nothing to do about the pricing but did I fill her in at the table, she liked my input being honest also the people around me at the tables had a great laugh and said that I was right, they also said they would never come back. I ask myself whats wrong with the people that run the Sportsman Show. They must know something to send people to do a survey. Been a few years since I went to the show and I said then, I'd never go back, now I'll be under the sod before I ever set foot there. Guy told me how much they pay for a booth. No wonder it's going down the pipe.
  11. Someone told me you shouldn't nuke it because it kills the nutrients, just place the bottle in a pot of hot water.
  12. You hit the nail on the head Wayne. Lobsters don't mined, probably put on a few pounds.
  13. Buddy was out Friday and got 30 keepers at Old-Cut, Jimmy has his huts out. I'm going to St. Williams Tuesday. Buddy of mine went out today, He's going to call me later with some luck info,I hope
  14. Your right Lew There talking about banning assault weapons ( machine guns), not hunting Rifles. You can't use assault weapons to hunt. Leave them to the military or police. Those wackos get off on assault weapons.
  15. It's about time they Ban assault weapons, and I'm a hunter. You can't hunt with one, so why have any. It's like having a gill net in your boat, fishing. What's assault weapons got to do with Fly fishing anyway.
  16. Go to PB, free parking at the soccer field. VB a truck went through.
  17. Just to add "Idle no more" so your getting a job and paying taxes like the rest of us and not looking for a hand-out. That sounds good to me.
  18. I think they have to go to the root of the problem and fix it. Dropping the limit is going to hurt tourism. Spending hundreds of dollars to go to Nip and only being able to keep 2 Pickerel the size of a Perch, is not going to cut-it. It's a darn shame because I always looked forward to our yearly trip to Nip. and it doesn't happen anymore. I feel sorry what's about to happen, not good.
  19. This is the 21st century. Don't live in the past. Get over-it. Most want to work and some take advantage of the system. Get a job like most and contribute for what you get. Don't expect others to look after you. We are all from foreign descent, no one was here first. To much of this Chicken or the egg thing going on. Just a few trouble makers make it look bad for others. We, the tax payers, are getting sick when we see what's happening with our money. Get a job and quite stopping others that want to look after them selves.
  20. You guys are on MOD Q now! using that "O" word is not tolerated on this board.
  21. Looks great guys, can I come over and watch you build me another rod, I need more training
  22. Thanks Bud, I didn't get to go, to busy, and I wanted to look at the Alumicraft boats. Shucks.
