Sorry, no pictures..camera's weren't invented yet... but I can remember when I was a young tad and my parents somehow had this small cottage near Lime Lake, NY with another couple...well I am guessing I was about 10 years old and my friend Greg and I found our fathers beer stored in a cold creek near the cottage...Well, we floated all the cans out to a deep pool...guess what...our dad's figure it out and made us swim out in the VERY COLD waters to retrieve them...and we didn't even get a swig..

Elberta Clip'er Fixed Slider (Downrigging)
Billy Bob replied to bluesky1713's topic in General Discussion
I use to do this off of planer boards...running two lures per line just like you described with a 3 way swivel...works GREAT and have often caught 2 walleyes at one time thinking I just won the South Town Walleye Derby only to find two 6 pound walleyes on my line... -

Actually that is referred to as a "Slider" as it will slide up and down at it's own will but as you said about half way down from the cannon ball...a cheater is rigged the same way BUT a rubber band is included to FIX the cheater at a desired depth, say 15 feet above the cannon ball in 100 feet of water....there are endless ways of rigging and getting tangled.. -

Yes, as someone else better explained..you use a half hitch onto the mainline and then put the loop into the swivel snap...the band will break and might or might not go through your guides of just slide along the line at the tip of your rod...if you get a fish on the main line same thing but now you sometimes need to remove the cheater when it reaches you, sometime not required...sometimes TWO FISH... -
Sorry to hear you problems with your boat...KEEP THE PRESSURE on them... My friend purchased a 1984 Grumman, the same as mine except mine is a 1985....during the second year his hull cracked where Grumman put the splash rail (right along the hull about water high when under plane). What Grumman didn't realize is they just formed the "V" for the splash rail and didn't reinforce it on the inside...so it worked back and forth like a pop can until it split...bottom line they said bring it to Marathan, NY and we will fix it and they did...he did have to trailer it about 4 hours away...mine on the other hand has the reinforcement on the inside as his NOW has...mine you could tell by the rivets all along the splash rail and his had none until they repaired it...25 years later both boats are going strong. For a FIXED slider just use a rubber band to keep it in place after you use a snap to your main line...this way you can hold the cheater line at any distance above the cannon ball you wish...I hope I made this clear, if not let me know. Bob -
Have you ever looked at what a outfitter charges to hunt out of their camp...I talking about the same outfitter that you can fish with in the summer...they want 2-3 TIMES as much...never could understand that or will ever be willing to pay that to hunt....as a matter of fact the most I ever payed to hunt is $5 for a Federal Blind here on a Saturday and I think I'm being over charged...but anyways......you guys know where the best place to shoot a moose right....next to your pickup truck...

Here's a VERY SIMPLE method we use for pork ribs that should work with Marty Moose... 3/4 pot of water Pinch of Kosher Salt 1 or 2 onions cut in half 3 - 6 stalks of celery Ribs...cut into individual ribs (best to always follow one side of the bone....so like always cut on the right side of the bone that way the rib meat is on the left side of the bone as will the next rib and so on. Put everything in the pot and bring to a boil..Boil for 45 minutes and take out ribs and drain...when ready cover ribs with your favorite BBQ sauce and cook on grill...ENJOY...this is a VERY GOOD recipe for pork or beef ribs so I can't see it not working for Marty Moose Ribs.

Actually I have a homemade bat that a friend wood worker turn out of Pennsylvania White Ash that we would get as firewood from "The Bat Factory" in Akeley Pa...my high school friend Brad could make anything from wood and with his lathe it was a easy chore and something I have had for over 30 years...it's much heavier than any of the cheap pine ones you sometimes see sold in tackle stores.

NYS bought out their commercial fishing fleets over 20 years ago using a $3 Lake Erie Stamp that was mandatory for all sport fishermen...it was suppose to be a 3 year thing but after 2 years they had enough money and canceled the stamp for the third year....Meanwhile the other states outlawed gill nets in the US and most all commercial fishing has ended on our side of Lake Erie....now it's up to you guys to put pressure on your government. I also have been doing bearing for over 35 years and have never seen that....you never know what the factory left out by mistake or by cost cutting.... In 1985 I purchased my boat, motor and trailer with the trailer being upgraded two sizes bigger than what they wanted to give me so I didn't have to worry about trailering all over the country and Canada (still have the same rig)...after two years I pulled the hubs to clean and grease the bearing...guess what..there was almost NO grease in the hubs or on the bearing....the bearing already showed overheating...so I replaced the bearing and races while packing the hub with marine wheel grease....since I don't EVER put my hubs under water I don't repack them often, as a matter of fact those bearing went 20 years without ANY maintenance at all...every spring I just jack up each wheel, spin the tire and listen to the bearing and then check for end play....couple of years ago I replaced those bearing just because of how old they were...when I took them out they showed very little wear, no rust or overheating... I no longer remove my two boat batteries for winter storage but rather just keep my on-board charger plugged in to maintain them. However, if I did remove them and put them in my basement as I use to I would still put them on a wood board as I was taught even in college (Alfred Tech)...what's so hard about putting a battery on top of a board... Skeeter didn't get a deal he got a STEAL........a couple of years ago the Sam's Club Grills had the grills with cast iron burners and a cast iron side burner...those are the one's to get IF you can...now the stainless steel burners are as thin as a piece of paper......I have a Ducane and the only thing that hasn't gone on that grill is the burners....paid over $1000.00 10 years ago on that puppy...on my deck I have three grills...The Ducane, a New Braunfelds that burns wood/charcoal for BBQ and has a bottom box for smoking my fish/meat and a open pit fire that has a swing in grill... The best thing I ever cooked on my Braunfelds using charcoal was a 8.5 lb standing rib roast...I still dream about eating that beast. OK, since it's grilling season I will share with my good Canadian friends a secret to the BEST way to cook chicken without par boiling it or anything else....ready.....it's real hard to remember....here goes. Preheat your propane/gas grill for 10/15 minutes...clean grills......put 1/2 chickens BONE SIDE DOWN and close cover...turn the grill down on LOW and drink beer for 45 minutes (do NOT raise the grill cover before the 45 minutes)...check to see if the skin is nice and crispy...if not one more beer or 10/15 minutes....that's it....we call it NO TURN CHICKEN so NEVER TURN IT...with the bones down the skin tightens up around the meat and seals in the juices that flare up the grill. If you burn it a bit only the bones get burn's and not the meat...EVERYONE I have shared this way to cook chicken now only uses this method...sometimes on my grill if it's windy I have to turn the grill up to medium or the flame blows out so I just put the chicken on the upper warming rack...works the same. Enjoy, Bob
