  1. Thanks, it seems funny when someone considers us (WNY) as being down south...
  2. Met her in Buffalo in '92......she seems to have disappeared and Googled her doesn't offer much either...she was a "Hottie with a Smoken Body" that could catch LARGE, VERY LARGE Pike.........anyone have an info on Debra. Bob
  3. For the "trolling motor" I change every 4 years but my starter battery is now 9 years old...I think this could be it's last season.....anyone know where I can still get a Delco Voyager "dual purpose" battery ?
  4. The first walleye (pickerel) is always the hardest one...now that your almost a expert walleye fisherman catching them will get easier....at least that's what I keep telling myself...
  5. "America derives its laws from its Constitution. It derives its values from the Bible. We don't get inalienable rights from the Constitution; we get them from God." MAY GOD BLESS THIS AIRLINE CAPTAIN: He writes: My lead flight attendant came to me and said, "We have an H.R. on this flight." (H.R. stands for human remains.) "Are they military?" I asked. 'Yes', she said. 'Is there an escort?' I asked. 'Yes, I already assigned him a seat'. 'Would you please tell him to come to the flight deck. You can board him early," I said.. A short while later, a young army sergeant entered the flight deck. He was the image of the perfectly dressed soldier. He introduced himself and I asked him about his soldier. The escorts of these fallen soldiers talk about them as if they are still alive and still with us. 'My soldier is on his way back to Virginia ,' he said. He proceeded to answer my questions, but offered no words. I asked him if there was anything I could do for him and he said no. I told him that he had the toughest job in the military and that I appreciated the work that he does for the families of our fallen soldiers. The first officer and I got up out of our seats to shake his hand. He left the flight deck to find his seat. We completed our preflight checks, pushed back and performed an uneventful departure. About 30 minutes into our flight I received a call from the lead flight attendant in the cabin. 'I just found out the family of the soldier we are carrying, is on board', she said. She then proceeded to tell me that the father, mother, wife and 2-year old daughter were escorting their son, husband, and father home. The family was upset because they were unable to see the container that the soldier was in before we left. We were on our way to a major hub at which the family was going to wait four hours for the connecting flight home to Virginia . The father of the soldier told the flight attendant that knowing his son was below him in the cargo compartment and being unable to see him was too much for him and the family to bear. He had asked the flight attendant if there was anything that could be done to allow them to see him upon our arrival. The family wanted to be outside by the cargo door to watch the soldier being taken off the airplane.. I could hear the desperation in the flight attendants voice when she asked me if there was anything I could do.. 'I'm on it', I said. I told her that I would get back to her. Airborne communication with my company normally occurs in the form of e-mail like messages. I decided to bypass this system and contact my flight dispatcher directly on a secondary radio. There is a radio operator in the operations control center who connects you to the telephone of the dispatcher. I was in direct contact with the dispatcher.. I explained the situation I had on board with the family and what it was the family wanted. He said he understood and that he would get back to me. Two hours went by and I had not heard from the dispatcher. We were going to get busy soon and I needed to know what to tell the family. I sent a text message asking for an update. I saved the return message from the dispatcher and the following is the text: 'Captain, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. There is policy on this now and I had to check on a few things. Upon your arrival a dedicated escort team will meet the aircraft. The team will escort the family to the ramp and plane side. A van will be used to load the remains with a secondary van for the family. The family will be taken to their departure area and escorted into the terminal where the remains can be seen on the ramp. It is a private area for the family only. When the connecting aircraft arrives, the family will be escorted onto the ramp and plane side to watch the remains being loaded for the final leg home. Captain, most of us here in flight control are veterans. Please pass our condolences on to the family. Thanks.' I sent a message back telling flight control thanks for a good job. I printed out the message and gave it to the lead flight attendant to pass on to the father. The lead flight attendant was very thankful and told me, 'You have no idea how much this will mean to them.' Things started getting busy for the descent, approach and landing. After landing, we cleared the runway and taxied to the ramp area. The ramp is huge with 15 gates on either side of the alleyway. It is always a busy area with aircraft maneuvering every which way to enter and exit. When we entered the ramp and checked in with the ramp controller, we were told that all traffic was being held for us. 'There is a team in place to meet the aircraft', we were told. It looked like it was all coming together, then I realized that once we turned the seat belt sign off, everyone would stand up at once and delay the family from getting off the airplane. As we approached our gate, I asked the copilot to tell the ramp controller we were going to stop short of the gate to make an announcement to the passengers. He did that and the ramp controller said, 'Take your time.' I stopped the aircraft and set the parking brake. I pushed the public address button and said, 'Ladies and gentleman, this is your Captain speaking I have stopped short of our gate to make a special announcement. We have a passenger on board who deserves our honor and respect. His Name is Private XXXXXX, a soldier who recently lost his life. Private XXXXXX is under your feet in the cargo hold. Escorting him today is Army Sergeant XXXXXXX. Also, on board are his father, mother, wife, and daughter. Your entire flight crew is asking for all passengers to remain in their seats to allow the family to exit the aircraft first. Thank you.' We continued the turn to the gate, came to a stop and started our shutdown procedures. A couple of minutes later I opened the cockpit door. I found the two forward flight attendants crying, something you just do not see. I was told that after we came to a stop, every passenger on the aircraft stayed in their seats, waiting for the family to exit the aircraft. When the family got up and gathered their things, a passenger slowly started to clap his hands. Moments later more passengers joined in and soon the entire aircraft was clapping. Words of 'God Bless You', I'm sorry, thank you, be proud, and other kind words were uttered to the family as they made their way down the aisle and out of the airplane. They were escorted down to the ramp to finally be with their loved one. Many of the passengers disembarking thanked me for the announcement I had made. They were just words, I told them, I could say them over and over again, but nothing I say will bring back that brave soldier. I respectfully ask that all of you reflect on this event and the sacrifices that millions of our men and women have made to ensure our freedom and safety in these United States of AMERICA .. Foot note: As a Viet Nam Veteran I can only think of all the veterans including the ones that rode below the deck on their way home and how they were treated. When I read things like this I am proud that our country has not turned their backs on our soldiers returning from the various war zones today and give them the respect they so deserve. I know every one who has served their country who reads this will have tears in their eyes, including me. Prayer chain for our Military... Don't break it! Please send this on after a short prayer.. Prayer for our soldiers Don't break it! Prayer: 'Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. 6. So then, do you eat the piranhas.
  7. I don't know if that's true or not and it very much may be true....I can only speak from experience and I have never used fuel stabilizer in my gas until I am ready to put the boat away for the winter...my motor is a 1985 50 hp Johnson VRO outboard...it runs just like the day I bought it but it is going in Friday to see if they can find the internal leak on my Tilt/Trim system...other than that I had one impeller replaced about 5-6 years ago. I guess maybe I'm lucky because I have heard many here don't like the OMC VRO systems but I love it.
  8. I have a Coleman 400 watt unit and it's great....my son got a cheap on from somewhere and tried to use it last year on a trip so they could use the lap top in the car...it started to smoke real bad and he ended up throwing it out window as while they were traveling on the interstate.
  9. I once heard Cabela's requires 40 acres of land to build...I have been to 3 different Cabela's and they are NICE, don't get me wrong....However, I found the catalogs are a lot of times cheaper to purchase from...if you get a email coupon from them then that takes care of the shipping charges and in the USA we can't be charged sales tax from a business that has no presence in your state. So no sales tax for NYS and it's easier shopping online....but for things like boots and shoes that you like to try on there is nothing like visiting the place of business.
  10. In my case these traps were a waste of money.
  11. I had a problem with them for several years...sprayed the house and used pesticides along the foundation but that didn't seem to help. Then a couple of years ago I was redoing the bath tub tile and ripped out the tile and drywall and found thousands of carpenter ants between two wall studs that were only 1/2" apart...spray them with a LOT of Raid and vacuumed and dug them all out...haven't had any since......but I have heard they like a water source so now it makes sense...I spent all my previous efforts more in the kitchen area. Bob
  12. This year doesn't look so good for a Canadian trip...going to many other destinations and the dollar exchange isn't worth it...but I may book one on the last minute since everyday is Saturday for me Maybe someday you can come down here and I'll show you the bass fishing you have dreamed about for the last 20 years if you can take the big water. Bob
  13. You mean like these tasty Crappies..
  14. Spoken like a true flaming heart liberal that needs his hand held from the womb to the grave... Here's a idea.......why not make recreation boating illegal and if you want to fish you must stand a minimum of 5 feet from any body of water while wearing a life jacket. Now everyone is safe from the boogie man.
  15. No, my argument is and I'll explain it a s - s l o w - a s - Piece of Crap s i b l e for you. NYS does not stock bass as you have implied or did Y O U - F O R G E T. Yet we have some of the best bass fishing in the world and we as MANY southern states allow fishing for bass during the S P A W N. How does that work... Just stating the facts and not hearsay. Bob
  16. Well the next time you see Dave Mercer you can tell him and any other fishing celebrities you worship that he is WRONG...I just double checked and NYS does NOT stock any bass whatsoever...Maybe Dave was just trying to get NYS to sponsor him. But anyways here the info you and Dave didn't know about. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7742.html http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/21668.html
  17. I didn't fail to mention the funding NYS puts towards it's fishery when it comes to bass because it does not exist......to the best of my knowledge NYS does not stock any bass in the WNY area and I doubt they do anywhere in NYS...we have too many bass because no one here, especially in WNY keeps any bass...why would we...they are like eating slimy dirt compared to perch, walleye, crappie and other pan fish. I didn't realize how many marine biologist we have on board here... If catch and release is so bad on bass during the spawn why are we allowed to fish bluegills and crappies during the spawn not to mention perch Bob
  18. The bleeding heart liberals have for many years according to them helped out a certain minority class of people here in the USA....you know what....I don't think it's working because now we have many many times more of these people that need help so it's not helping IMHO...just like this life jacket law....you should only be responsible for yourself but the liberals want to care for you from the womb to the grave all while taking your freedom and liberty away...I would rather be floating with the fishes than be taken by the hand from people that have no clue what happiness is to me.
  19. NYS has a stupid law that says starting Nov 1st to May 1st if aboard a boat smaller than 22' you must wear a life jacket when under way.....that makes the rich and famous who can afford large boats exempt from the law much like the police are exempt from wearing seat belts and Congressmen don't have to pay Social Security and can vote themselves raises. FIGHT for your rights my fellow Canadian friends.
  20. I have also done good yesterday and last Thursday on crappies and THICK bluegills....the crappies here are molting so the means they are spawning along side the bluegills and the carp and the LM and the gar pike we have seen in the shallows. Going back tomorrow because the weeds are growing FAST and soon the bite I found will be over. Water temp 72 degrees already and that was yesterday. Bob
  21. I see no problem with fishing for bass out of season...here in NYS it's legal and we have some of the best bass fishing in the world......many other southern states don't even have a season on bass...IMHO you guys are all over re-acting over this. Bob
  22. Yes they do, but it's WAY overpriced.
  23. Maybe I'm confused but shouldn't he be using only 1 40 amp fuse right at the battery terminal on the positive side or are there two positive leads going to 2 different plugs. If so WHY two different plugs for one trolling motor. Bob
