Junior's Rod Was On Fire (Bay Of Quinte)
bbog replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Best way to keep the kids engaged is to let them out fish you. You did let them right?? Great report, the smile on your son's face says it all (beat you dad!!) -
Been having success with Spin Doctors in green and silver. Otherwise RAC spoons in silver w/green tape or silver w/blue tape.

As stated Laker fishing is pretty tough, if you want a chance you'll need to get your line down to them. No motors allowed (electric or gas) on this lake adds a little to the challenge. The park superintendent is quite helpful in telling you where the Lakers "should" be. Smallies are available in many places but not in any quantity. Let us know how you make out.

Welcome to the finest family fishing forum. Tell us a little about yourself.

The first smallie is quite a specimen! Looks like a great time, now get back to work

You guys are gorillas hauling in a 75lb canoe!! I also have a small back lake that I go to that is Largemouth heaven. Lucky for me I know the land owner on the easy access side. I often wonder how/why these lakes are full of Largemouth and NOTHING else. All the times I have been in there that is all I catch yet surrounding lakes have a much larger variety. Good job on the adventure and what a feast you had.

Wow beauty Perch and bonus Wally and Pike.

We were a couple hours north of Toronto and had much better luck on Saturday than Sunday. Actually packed it in a bit early on Sunday due to the slow bite. Great time anyway getting out of the city. Gotta figure out the weather connection for better fishing.

Was in the LeBaron's Woodbine store last night and they have all three sizes of the Carbomax in stock. They were $24 each. I was tempted to pick up an ultralight for a spare but didn't - may go back.

Another longtime Garmin user. Have all the maps I need but sadly Bluechart data is not available for the lakes I fish.

I'm a diver like JohnF and have found pretty much the same things he has except for the BODIES. I can add bicycles, snowmobiles, dive watch and yes lots of lures. Try to avoid diving/snorkeling where people are shore fishing - don't want to get caught yourself!!

You may have missed the word C A N O E in his post (while a safety kit is required ownership or registration is not) Anyway when I'm out I don't usually have one specie in mind or am traveling hard to reach back lakes (in my canoe) so being a minimalist is a recipe for disaster. Our kit (for two on a back lake) includes 5 rods, two tackle boxes, depth finder, GPS, rain gear, life jackets and of course food and water. Now if I'm out alone for a 30 minute paddle - life jacket, single rod and lure and pliers only if using trebles or barbs are not pinched down.

My first car was a '72 Chevy Vega (similar to the photo). This car was GM's answer to the oil crisis at the time but was built with a "throw away" 4 cylinder engine. When it was time for my THIRD engine (first replacement paid for by GM) I secured an all aluminum Oldsmobile 215 cubic inch V8. My shop teacher would not let me use the school's facility to effect the transplant so car and motor was sold. This car FOREVER soured me on ANYTHING remotely tied to GM. The only good thing about this car was the completely flat area under the hatch when the back seat was folded down. Great for camp outs or impromptu lounging facilities Ironically my next car was also a hatchback that had a flat rear area ('69 Mustang Mach I - that didn't need an engine transplant!) Have not driven domestic since these two early encounters with N.A. built "stuff"

Kawarthas got hit really hard last year but I have not heard if they got hit again this year. Does anyone know what is causing this latest die-off?

Like most have said watch the weather and know when to call it quits. Also pick your put in spot carefully so that you can get to the depths that you want without going too far (hopefully the fish will be there!). I don't think you want to be 5 miles out like we have been recently on Lake O (20 foot boat). Play safe and bring in some fish.

A fishing buddy once told me his mom would crawl on broken glass for a meal of Sunfish. Haven't tried it myself but do a lot of camping weekends and will next time I get sick of having Pike Keep on fishing and ignore the ..........!

Given the vast amount of people out on the roads today that CLEARLY cannot drive it is refreshing that at least some people are failing the test. For far too long drivers licenses were handed out as a right. The MTO was too worried about "offending" anyone attempting the test. And what about the Scarborough office scandal (many years ago) where you could BUY a license without taking the test. Our first priority should be for the safety of those that use our highways and if that means failing a few then great. I'd also be in favour of making the test MUCH more difficult and higher standards on the quality and safety of the vehicles on the road. If you have the time - seek out the book "High and Mighty: SUVs--The World's Most Dangerous Vehicles and How They Got That Way" It's a great read with references to inexperienced drivers, vehicles that instill an invincible mentality, etc. Should be mandatory driver education

I wouldn't waste another minute on Vanish. A well lubricated uni-uni knot with any quality fluorocarbon should work fine. Enough said!

That's a nice Crappie, WTG!

A one pound weight isn't going to change the outward appearance of the fish. I'm not sure how many people ask others to "hold" their catch to be "impressed" by the weight. Does anyone believe this defense?

Fantastic report and pictures, guess it is all downhill from here!

Pike are certainly one of my favorites but gotta get better at filleting them Cajun Fish Crisp!!

Nice work guys and some beauty fish there!

I have been sitting on the sidelines during the two threads with respect to medical treatment in Canada and the US. Speaking from personal experience the service I received in the US (relating to a scuba diving accident) was second to none. The treatment was expedient and under the care of world reknowned experts (Duke University and DAN). At no time was treatment delayed to check for ability to pay. The most important concern was getting back to health. Sure a bill came later and had to be paid - but if I had the option where to get sick - well lets just say that the usual wait times in Canada may have been fatal. The medical system in Canada (or rather the abuse it takes) needs to be fixed NOW! And one other thing. When my beloved Fraser (a Golden Retriever) was sick recently - there was not a single test that I couldn't get in a moments notice. Of course the bill for these tests would be mine alone but in a country as rich as Canada - we need to find a way to provide our people with this immediate access to health care. Back to the sidelines.

Nice fish you got there - good to see some aren't afraid of the bones and take the tasty Pike. Well done!
