  1. If you strike out there I may be willing to sell mine!
  2. Sounds like the MIL gave you a chance to get out alone with the wife so can't be all that bad?? Did you get a chance to fish some of the nearby lakes as mentioned by some of the members? I'd love to get back up to Restoule one day. My only trip there was about 10 years ago when I wasn't fishing yet. Thanks for the report and I can't wait to see the pictures.
  3. What JohnF said... except I don't care if they bite other lures as long as they also bite mine
  4. Good on you Kemper for recognizing an opportunity and taking it. A couple years ago my son was in BC and really wanted to go Halibut fishing but was griping about the cost. I reminded him that we don't have Halibut in Ontario. This past spring I didn't have to tell him anything when he seized the opportunity to fish Dorado in Fort Lauderdale. Life's to short to be saying shoulda/coulda.... enjoy the trip and don't fall off your bike!
  5. I don't have any "spots" per se but shudder to think a ton of lurkers would show up if my favourite back lakes were exposed. There is a bit of adventure in "finding" your own spots. Just my opinion..
  6. another 2 cents to add... I have a Coleman 15.5' canoe and started with the foam roof system. Using the foam to load the canoe requires two people. I upgraded to a proper roof rack and can load the canoe by myself by sliding it on the rack. For a longer trip with an accomplice I actually prefer the foam since the canoe sits lower on the car and appears more stable. Depending on your budget you may wish to consider having both. Our 15.5' is large enough for two adults, all our fishing gear and 2 Golden Retrievers. Your canoe choice will also require some consideration of the construction/material. Our canoe is indestructible since it is made of RAM-X. Just about any canoe will suite your needs on the water. The issue is how you get it to/from the water that will help determine what you get. cheers.
  7. Hey reefrunner, the HMX is certainly a beauty and you will enjoy it! I cannot comment on the difference between the SS304 stainless used on this rod vs. ceramic on many of my other rods. EXCEPT to say that all my ceramic equipped rods have a lifetime warranty whereas the Fenwick (SS304 equipped) is 5 years as you noted. Co-incidence maybe - or just that the ceramic equipped rods are a little older and the industry is moving away from lifetime warranties? My concern would be the terrible customer service provided by Pure Fishing when an inferior product gets launched. I know some have been raving about "great" customer service with respect to the Gulp Alive leaking buckets. But come on - the leaking bucket problem (and cloudy juice) was widely known and it certainly appears that NOTHING proactive was done about it. To have someone incur the cost and hassle to return a leaking bucket to Manitoba for exchange is NOT "great" customer service - especially when this problem was known in advance. :blahblah1: I don't have a solution and just hope we don't have any issues with our Fenwicks
  8. You don't have to go that far to see them. Lots around just to shy to be seen by most.
  9. Sounds like a fantastic time - great report and pictures. Dugout and Baxter look like the type of lakes that I have been having fun in.
  10. Yeah, wife lost a PB bass a couple weeks ago and all she wants to do is get back to that same lake and find it again! She's not mad - just wants to get a better look at it
  11. Beauty Crappie for sure. WTG!
  12. Would that be faster than the high speed ferry that no one wanted to take either??
  13. Nice looking fish - well done! Oh and the best way to keep the wife interested is to continue to let her outfish you
  14. Only problem is "up to 8 hours battery life". This unit is fine for mostly car use then the occasional off road adventure but serious outdoor use requires much better battery performance using standard AAs (not available in this unit).
  15. You can pick up O-rings at Home Depot - in the hardware section. CTC as well I think. I'll have to look through my "save-a-dive" kit and see what sizes I have!
  16. I have good success with YUM, especially vibra kings and buzz frogs. No luck at all with Storm (yet).
  17. Have you considered a used canoe? Small investment and very versatile.
  18. I haven't been doing as well as last year but as someone else has said - have done well in the rain. Weather has been wacky and water levels up. Maybe this has changed where the fish are?
  19. Nice report and pictures/videos. I'm still looking for lake success using my portable downriggers in the canoe. Maybe not going fast enough based on your report.
  20. Palomar is easy to tie and maintains strength at the knot - what else do you need?
  21. Welcome to our community, did anyone say we like pictures!
  22. Carefully consider the total cost of ownership before buying a hybrid. It might be a "feel good" purchase but the economics rarely work out in your favour (of course we're talking about a hybrid vs. the same vehicle in a non-hybrid version and not a hybrid vs. your current gas-guzzling ride)
