    Hello

Welcome to the board John. You're sure to find some great information here! I've got Binbrook penciled in myself for sometime this season.
  2. Hi folks, Received an Eagle Fishmark 320 sonar from my son last year and was looking for suggestions on how to configure it. I fish out of a canoe and typically in small shallow lakes 35' or so deep. On occasion I have put on the portable downriggers and trolled deep for Lake Trout - but this is not my main use. So far I have been using it mostly to confirm depth. I'm sure with the appropriate set-up the sonar can offer a lot more to the fishing experience. Looking forward to gaining some of your expertise. Thanks, Barn

    Vista

If your current computer (regardless of OS) is meeting your needs then why bother with Vista? Make the move only if and when you have to and Microsoft has release a service pack or three.
  4. Welcome to the board Steve, great bunch here! Barn
  5. I took the bait, now set the hook! (what a cruel thing to do to a newbie, looking for a first ice fishing experience)
  6. "Fisherman" hit it right on the head! Factoring family admission, I can get an awful lot of stuff at BPS or LeBarons - usually without the crowds. Of course I could end up spending a lot more at these places. Entertainment or bargain hunting?
  7. I was thinking of taking a pass on the show this year because it was SO crowded the day I went last year - but if NOBODY is going.... I'll watch here to see if anyone posts a favourable review!
  8. Fantastic report and great pictures - thanks for sharing! (regret I hadn't tried hard water fishing yet)
  9. Thanks for the nice intro (from one new member to another). Thinking of trading in the canoe for a kayak - good to see this is someone else's mode of transport.
  10. Pro Z, white is too tough to keep clean!
  11. Wow it feels great to be welcomed by so many long time members. I had no idea my choice of handle would result in such inquisitiveness. Simply, I have two Golden Retrievers. The youngest "Barnie" thinks he runs the show and hence we are all part of his "band" - the reference to "gold" should now be obvious. Figured all the good handles were already taken so settled on one unlikely to be used by anyone else. I didn't want to give myself a "fishing" handle and possibly set your expectations too high! But seriously, I love the great outdoors and look forward to continuing my angling education here. Cheers Barn
  12. Hi everyone! Been a lurker for a long time and decided to join in today. A new member of OFAH and a lover of our great Ontario outdoors. Just got into fishing in the last couple of years and want to LEARN everything I can. A great day is time in the canoe trying to figure out where the fish are hiding and what they want! Looking forward to continue learning from you guys and gals. Cheers, Barn
  13. Hope this isn't too late but I'd suggest spending a bit more on the Garmin Cx series of GPS units. You get: 1. Colour screen 2. USB connection to the PC 3. About double battery life (18 vs 32 hours on 2 x AA) 4. Auto-routing with the appropriate maps 5. Expandable memory You can buy the cheaper unit to mark favorite fishing spots but will soon want auto-nav to the spot. Radioworld in Toronto offers great everyday pricing on stuff. Check out eTrex Venture Cx (if you already have a USB cable and MicroSD card, etrex Legend Cx if you don't). Cheers, Barn
  14. Was packed when I visited last Sunday. Spent $50 then went for a coffee, returned to drop another $150 on an ultralight outfit I probably don't need. Can't wait to get out again. Barn
