Yeah I did this on the Niagara river running plows a few years back with Raf. I had the rod in my hand with the handle behind my back and I was the rod holder. I did this for 6 hrs and it was not that easy. Need some muscle to do this.
Well it sure lets you know if a fish is on!! If there are two of you in the boat then I guess you can have the one partner watching the lines while you pay attention to the driving.
I bought my crucial from Sam when he was in Burlington. That shop has long shuttered it doors so what do we do now if the dealer is out of Business? Do we have to take it to Peterborough or just another dealer like DaveMc?
The TE is a very nice reel for the price. As mentioned the Tranx has not been proven yet so go with something that has been out there for awhile. Check out the Abu reels they are reliable and much cheaper than the TE or Tranx.

You can still have a good day on the water without one. Use the wind, as mentioned, and drift with it. Use your anchor to hold your spot for a bit and use the 8 hp motor for positioning or even back trolling.
I was planning on a weekend up north of north bay. No campfires kind puts a damper on the whole experience. I guess that I will have to decide on whether to take the chance and have an open fire when I get there. Maybe have a pail of water ready if the fire gets out of hand ( doubt it).
