  1. When you assume you make an ... Just because a boat is listed for a certain price that doesn't mean that's what you offer or that's what you pay. You are correct there are additional costs when buying in the USA and that price would not have made sense to me either. This boat was originally listed at $9850 and reduced to $8300, then finally "call for price" was listed on the website. I was fortunate to buy the boat for significantly less than the last listed price. As far as unknown issues you get those with any boat, new or used, here or in the states. As far as doing better here I invite you to post any adds listing a 2006 boat with similar features and extra's , troll motor, fish finder, 3 batteries, custom cover, spare tire, and 150hp motor for under $9000 CAN including all taxes, duty, exchange, plates, RIV, inspections, travel expenses etc. Thanks again OFC.
  2. I would just like to say thank you to the members of the OFC that helped me with the process of buying and importing a boat from the US. The knowledge and experience of the OFC's members was invaluable. Thanks to the members who responded to my PM's. I bought a 2006 G3 from Boat Boys LLC in Newark OH. They provided excellent service, value and long distance communication throughout the process. The boat has been fished hard and needs some TLC. It has some small dents, dock rash, hull scratches, a broken radio and carpet that needs replacing. The trailer will need some minor fixes. Terry the head mechanic ran the motor for us and spent over an hour with us going over every part of the boat, motor and trailer. You never know until you get it out on the water but the compression numbers were good and the boat appears to be structurally sound. Coincidently we met the previous owner in the parking lot. We had a good talk with him about the boat as well. Everyone's experience with be different but these were my conclusions: You don't have to buy from a private seller to find value in the US. Private sellers can be scared off by the extra steps it takes to sell to a Canadian buyer. Be prepared to act quickly. Ask as many questions as you can before you travel so there are no surprises when you get there. US sellers, even dealers don't know what docs Canadians need at the border so be firm and double check. Before you leave Canada make up make sure the seller has the the correct documentation you will need (proof of ownwership/title for boat motor and trailer, separate bills of sale for boat, motor and trailer, The trailer information is important at the border, make sure the stamp can be read , they wanted the serial # and the date and year of manufacture. Luck did play a part for me. I had 2 deals for other boats that were more money and not as good fall through. The timing was also good- it was Jan, nothing was moving and the dealer was motivated to sell. Thanks also to my friend Nick who made this happen. Nick found this boat for me doing a random google search. We left at 515am and got back at 1015pm. He drove both ways and insisted on paying for the gas and taking his vehicle.
  3. Nice pics, really like the horses and farm in the background. Are those claws ever sharp. Those birds spook easy how far away were you?
  4. If you use the search tool you can find a number of threads on this site discussing GPS Fishfinder combos. YouTube is also a good place to research specific units and how gps and navionics work. Radioworld.ca has some good boxing weeks deals on fish finders with GPS.
  5. We did not lose power but had no tv or Internet until last night. Some friends left they re homes in the city and went to stay with relatives or hotels. Was at Princess Auto In Brampton yesterday and they had a number of people lined up for 80 generators they had coming in. They said they had 150 people on a waiting list as well.
  6. Thanks for posting. I remember seeing the original doc of him and his wife living in the woods for about a year. Was the cabin they built north of thunder bay? She got pregnant so they moved back to civilization.
  7. He was starting QB at Louisiana Tech. The story goes that some ducks flew over practice one day and Phil said to himself I'd rather be duck hunting than playing football and quit the team. Terry Bradshaw became the starter and went on to win 4 super bowls with the Steelers.
  8. His observations about blacks and civil rights were also a factor. The reality is that a large % of his fans probably agree with him. AE had to do something. Show bigger than ever. The DD products used to be only in cabelas, bp and gander, now in non outdoor retailers like sears, jc penny etc. Suburban kids that have never seen a fishing rod or a duck blind are wearing duck commander gear and camo jackets.
  9. Nice shots. Thanks for posting my co-workers enjoyed them too. Would make some nice christmas cards.
  10. Nice assortment of fish Rich, well done
  11. I'm considering purchasing a boat in the upper mid-west and having it shipped from its current location to Port Huron Michigan. It would cost $500.00 to ship it. I would drive to Port Huron Michigan and meet the shipper, bring it across the border. Has anyone done this before? Does anyone have any advice for a situation like this?
  12. Hell of a year you had and not many species you did nt catch.
  13. Good luck with your new baitcaster. I just bought my son his first baitcaster combo at Cabelas. The guy recommended going with trilene xt mono for a first time baitcaster user.
  14. Great report. You and your crew really hooked some beasts. Love that canoe and the casting deck upfront.
  15. I was down there walking the dog last wed before my sons hockey game. I did not see any signage restricting hours but did see signs saying no fishing in certain areas on the east side of the river. I was surprised to see about 10 boats still docked in the marina this late in the year.
  16. Hopefully a sign of things to come for you this season, gorgeous fish, congrats.
  17. Some real beauties there congrats on a great trip.
  18. Shawn at www.bearcreekcottages.com Good Ice fishing and an excellent Musky Guide as well.
  19. Some hardcore trailblazing there Chris. Great shot with the flurries in the backround. Good to hear the lake levels are up.
  20. I'm not sure what the punishment should be but what he got isn't enough
  21. Well done Chris, nice pics, thanks for sharing
  22. A few pics from a late October camping trip on the Mississippi River system in North Frontenac. I left Sat. at 530am and was at the access by 1030. The first access rd I tried was gated and locked so I had to back track and lost an hour. Leaving the access point 20 minute boat ride to the camp-site (2 mins in a real boat) Home for 1 night. I know the tree huggers don't approve but I always appreciate a site with furniture. The tables and shelves are a real back saver. I camped at the same site in the summer and enjoyed catching a few of these in a near by back lake. I was hoping to fish the same water this trip as well. Unfortunately, I had to change my plans when I realized that the lake I fished in the summer was drained dry when they lowered the dam downstream. This area behind my site was 4-6ft deep in the summer and led to the back lake. This is how it looked in late October. The fishing was pretty good Sat late afternoon/ evening. I caught a few SM Trolling and casting smaller Rapala minnow baits and xraps. Also tried worm harness but got shut-out on that. Also caught 1 small pike, 1 walleye and 1 good LM, It rained alot mid afternoon and night. I needed the white man fire to dry out the clothes. After a couple of beers I was a little slow to notice the collateral damage to the tarp. Fall Colours. A good time to go, nobody checking permits (or lack of permits). I had the lake to myself except for one boat on Sunday afternoon. The sun came out Sunday and the fish cooperated. Caught some hard fighting SM in sheltered bays. A short but very enjoyable trip except for the fact that I lost the rod/reel in the picture below. Sloppy rod holder rigging on my part. The rod was nothing special but I had the bait caster for 15 years. It was in fairly shallow water off an island and if I had been able to spot it I would have gone in for it. Time to plan the spring trips I guess. Tim
