  1. BOth teams were great, I was on the edge of my seat the whole game. The US girls have nothing to be ashamed of, they played terrific also
  2. Just how many times do you expect a guy to apologize to someone?
  3. where do I go to see the tournament standings?
  4. I hope this link works it is an amazing video, don't know how they manged to film it http://www.flixxy.com/bear-animal-nature-film.htm?r=0 if it doesn't work try typing it in , well worth the watch
  5. when they announced there was going to be a poem I thought "Oh great, just what we need some lame poem" was I ever wrong, this guy did something I didn't expect. He made me proud to be Canadian by way of a poem. Thanks for putting the text of the poem on the board, it is one I could read many times and never feel bored
  6. I agree that it was well done, but having said that, I agree that we all aren't a group of fiddlers, tap dancers or acrobatic flyers. I have put the question to the americans on another board to see what their opinion was of the ceremonies since they would be getting the American "spin" from NBC. The only screw up was the hydrolic issue they had at the end and that sure shouldn't have happened.
  7. I had to be on call for midnights so I started taping the game at the end of the first quarter. It's now 1:30 am and just finished watching the tape. I was surprised the wife would watch the game for a second time, she must really like the commercials.
  8. When I was a kid (a long time ago) , growing up in Brantford, I talked my dad into taking me fishing "up north" because I had just seen a guy up the street bring home a northern that he had caught "up north" and it was edible. (at that time the Grand River was SOOOO polluted the fish were just good enough for fertilizer). Anyhow, he piles me into the car and away we go, Up North, all the way to Belwood Lake, yup, the one by Fergus. To my dad that was as far north as he wanted to go, anyway he rented a rowboat and off we go , but, the boat leaked so bad that I spent all my time bailing, he spent his rowing and just when we were 1/2 way to where we wanted to go, a storm appears on the horizon so he turned around and we headed home without even wetting a line. not much of a fishing experience but a great memory of him and his effort to keep a kid happy. A couple years ago I started out to go fishing but the fog on our lake was thick out on the main body of the lake and our bay was just semi-foggy, you know the kind you can see through, . So off I go , I can see the island down the bay and know my way past it, but when I hit where the island was supposed to be the heavy fog had rolled in and was really dense. I knew if I followed the shore line of the island I would be in the main body of the lake in no time. I followed the shore line for an hour, when the fog lifted, I was back in front of my own dock. Now I take the gps.
  9. just woke up from midnight shift-----what a great story to get you smiling and chuckling to start your day thanks for the story
  10. I got a buddy that runs Fees Landing on the Kawartha Lakes, he has been on the fishing show that Charlie Wray has. It is pretty close to London, Give Fees Landing a google.
  11. When I was 12 (1958) I worked at one of the local bowling alleys setting pins, and got .03 per line of bowling, so on a league night I would make (5per team x 3 games bowled x 2 teams per pair of lanes x 2 leagues per night) equaling $1.80. When I started with the Bell Telephone company of Canada in 1965 I was up to the whopping rate of $65.00 per 40 hour week. Of course you could go to the movies for $1.50 back then.
  12. ditto , but after all I don't even know how to get into a chat room either. up here in the bush we're still on the tin can and string .
  13. A very prestigious cardiologist died, and was given a very elaborate funeral by the hospital he worked for most of his life... A huge heart... covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the service as all the doctors from the hospital sat in awe. Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket was rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the doctor in the beautiful heart forever. At that point, one of the mourners burst into laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, 'I am so sorry, I was just thinking of my own funeral... I'm a gynecologist.' The proctologist fainted.
  14. just got one at costco in winnipeg for $179 plus tax it came to $201. Cabelas had the smaller quickfish 2 for $229 .
  15. I just got home from a trip to Winnipeg. I went looking for ice shelters and at Cabelas they had an Eskimo Quickfish2 (2 person size, i guess) for $229 but you couldn't stand up in it. They had a HT shelter that was bigger but it was $279 and looked like it was more cheaply made. I remember readiing the comments on here before I went looking and I can see where those comments are coming from. Then I went to COSTCO. they had an Eskimo Quickfish 3 on for $179 and you could stand up in it. they say it is 90x90 and a 78" hieight. I don't ice fish that much, but for that money, who could pass it up. I'm sure momma is going to love me for bringing it home. LOL
  16. I know a lot of plastic baits are scented with garlic, I wonder what would happen if you put garlic powder on them with the salt. Do you think the garlic would sink in?
  17. Well all week I have been looking at the temperatures outside and thinking that I'll hit the ice for a while this weekend. Now, I'm not much of an ice fisherman, i'd rather troll in my boat but what the heck, you gotta feed your obsession sometime. Especially since my wife got me an ice fishing rod for christmas. So I got all my chores done around the house and headed down to gather my new rod and tackle to give it a try. I was in town this morning and didn't get any minnows because, I HAD MINNOWS, those frozen shiners we can buy in the grocery store. Who need to spend more when you already got . I go to the freezer and yup, my minnows are all frozen, TOGETHER , in a large clump, totally useless for today. So I went and tried my luck with GULP. After an hour, i hadn't had a bite, I packed up and headed up to the house for a power nap. So tomorrow, my minnows will be thawed and maybe, just maybe, I'll have a better time and get something to bite, the GULP sure didn't want to work today.
  18. Thanks for the kind words about the neighbourhood Connie. It really po"d me to have to put our signs up. This guy has been asked to not park there. His fishing partners have been asked to make sure they park where it is not restrictive to get out of our subdivision and so far those requests have gone to deaf ears. Time will tell this weekend and we will keep an eye out for this guy and talk to him again. Last week this guys truck was almost taken out by a large propane truck that was taking a run at the hill to get out. Imagine the scenario with a propane explosion. This is just a safety issue, not a personal vendetta and like I said, the entire group of neighbours are upset with his actions, so it just isn't me.
  19. well I went to town, bought a pile of signs, and put them up along the road, if the guy comes in and continues to park in a dangerous area, I will get him towed. We went through this a couple years ago with some prospectors and the police had their truck towed. I really don't care where he fishes on the lake, but my neighbour is a little ticked because the guy put his shack 10 feet from his. He seems to think this is wrong since they are the only 2 ice shacks on this end of the lake. But , that's up to him to deal with. My only concern is that come the weekend we don't only have this guy, but all his buddies , then all their buddies over the next weekends til ice out. If he will park on the power line and use the power line access to the lake, there is no problem.
  20. this fellow has been told the road is private, one of the neighbours stopped him and told him. I had a sign at the entrance to the road that read NO HUNTING Or TRESPASSING, I am assuming it is still there, but will check to see if it is visible with the snowbank build up at the road closure to the tourist camp.
  21. Ok since I just read the post on fighting, I see our members are full of advice. Here's the deal I am being involved in. Our neighbour runs a tourist camp and for the winter she goes to Florida and the camp is empty. We keep an eye on the property for her and this winter we have had little snow (3-4 inches). This means the road to her camp was wide open and one person decided that he would use her property to launch his ice hut and use her boat launch as a parking lot when he goes out to the hut. We don't know this person so we called the owner in Florida and she told us that the only person she has given permission to use her boat launch and property over the winter is our neighbour next door. She asked if we could plow enough snow in to block the driveway. We left a note on the vehicle of the guy using the boat launch telling him of this development and after he left for the day, we plowed in the road. Now, this guy is parking his vehicle on our road (privately built and maintained) and just over the top of the hill that we must take a run at in order to get up. We have lots of space further down the road, past the junction to the our road and the tourist camp. there is a power line that crosses and we have plowed an open area that is 40 feet wide so if he wanted to park there he could. The power line runs to the lake and there is access to the lake at that point. Instead he keeps parking on our road and using the skidoo trail we have that runs across the back of one of the neighbours property. What do you folks think I should do to correct this situation. I seem to be the person every neighbour is bouncing ideas of how to handle it off and I'm allways open to ideas to make a compromise . your thoughts please
  22. that just made me really sick to watch, with all the efforts we make for conservation of the species, I guess someone would say it's a cultural thing but unless they are feeding the entire population of their village, this is just disgusting.
  23. hopefuly this will work, this is my big boat, you know the one momma will go in. this is my small boat that I haul to eagle lake and use in the early spring and fall
  24. Rodney Carrington sure does some funny stuff and those guys made it work really well. thanks for the chuckle
  25. Congratulations on 10 years. This is my favourite site to visit (usually at least 10 times a day) I just wish I was closer to you guys in the south so I could attend some of the events that take place and meet some of you
