DON'T TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS!!!
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Hey Thanks for all the great replies guys - I hope you enjoyed the report! Sorry I haven't gotten back until now..... my parent's just left for Sudbury and I wanted to wait to sneak back to OFC until they were gone. The week flew by like a rocket.... it seems like just yesterday I was excitedly gearing up for a long awaited opener with my dad, and some good time spent with my mom. I wish they lived a little closer! Anyways - have a fantastic weekend and get out fishing if you can! Cheers, Ryan -
Hey Guys, I have to keep this short as I just got in from a work trip and have a bunch of things to get done in the office and at home before our family get-together at my place for Canada Day tomorrow! I've been looking forward to fishing opener with my Dad for the first time in over a decade!!! Our schedules just never seemed to work since I moved away for college. I was up at 3:30 a.m. - got the lunch packed, the boat ready and hooked up to the truck, made some coffee and woke up the old man just in time to leave. Traditionally, my dad is a live bait kind of guy, mixing in gulp and other soft plastics from time to time, but he'd never fished a Tube jig for smallies before. My game plan was kind of thrown for a loop with the hurricane like winds.... it was a rough ride in my little 15 foot jon boat, but braved the waves, and though we were drifting tubes at speeds of up to 1.5 MPH (no drift sock) we managed a whole PILE of smallies. Nothing huge, but a good mix of fish up to the 3 pound range. I knew the big smallies would be out by Bluff Bar but we didn't want to chance going that far out into the lake with my little rig on a windy day. As it was we had to run with the plug out a couple of times to drain away wayward waves that found their way into the boat! lol I have to get a bilge pump. Anyways, we only really got photo's at our first spot as it was my only spot that wasn't getting completely pounded with giant waves.... 5:15 or so there was a huge line up at the launch The old man idling up after our first drift.... Little guy - but the first legal bass in the boat for 2011... I started it off right with the first fish than the old man somehow managed to put on a clinic the rest of the day... fishing tubes for the first time ever with 5lb Power Pro on a 5.5 ultra light rod lol First Tube Jig Bass Another little guy.. Old man with a pair - he was pretty stoked! A little bigger - he was rubbing it in at this point.... only an hour or so into the day he was up on my be a good half dozen fish or more... We smoked a bunch of smallies in this spot which is about 5 to 6 FOW then we ran out past the group of boats and fished 12 to 17 FOW but didn't get any photos as we were bouncing all over the place... Here's a photo of the pack on our way by... called it a day shortly after lunch We got home to my house in the country and my old man taught me how to fire his cross bow.... He may have smoked in on the smallies, but I beat him at his own game... right on target Anyways - great day spent with my old man! Looking forward to next year already! Cheers, Ryan & Dad

Hey guys! The morning crew over at FM96 in London offered to hook me up with some air time to talk about the Fish-a-Thon in hopes that we might be able to gain some more interest and support for our cause!! I'll be on there @ 8:50 ish and you bet I'll be mentioning OFC while I'm on the air! I'm going to wing it, so hopefully I don't say anything stupid! haha Anyways it was very generous of them to extend this offer out to me so if you can take a listen for a few minutes! You can listen online if you like as well... http://www.fm96.com/ Thanks again for all your support! We've got over 50 people signed up and the support just keeps coming in! OFC has been a big part of this since day 1 so thanks again! We'll have a thread set up with full details very soon! Cheers, Ryan

Good Work out there bud - and no worries on the late-ness... you beat me to it! haha cheers, Ryan -
It's been a busy spring for me, which always seems to be the case. We have basement reno's on the go, a ton of yard stuff and exterior home fixes that seem never ending. But I finally managed to get out on the water May long weekend for a morning of fishing with the kids. Luke was nervous in the boat at first but warmed up to it and had a ton of fun playing with minnow's and catching fish.... he even managed a short nap in the boat! lol We did well with the rock bass and I caught a few big OOS smallies while trying for pike, but we came up short on the perch until my good buddy Dan Bouck found some perch....albeit little ones... Anyways, it was a great morning out on the water with the kids.... Thanks for the perch spot Dano! While I'm throwing out thank you's I have to send a big shout out to SHIMANO Canada! I was talking to some of the guys at Facts of Fishing LIVE, asking about smaller rods for kids. I haven't been able to find something right for Averie as she needed to upgrade from her ice fishing rod..and I live in the sticks so our selection around here is limited. Wouldn't you know a tube show's up in the mail with a 4 foot 6 inch Voltaeus not a week and a half later. She's used it twice now, and it's absolutely the perfect rod for her! On to some pics... In the yard ready to rock... Our country road... Saw this guy on our way so we stopped to take a pic... Luke was a little nervous at first... But he was quickly distracted by the minnows... The perch bite was slow for us so we hit up a tried and true rock bass spot and Averie slammed some big rockies! Here's Averie doing the "Mercer Hold" with her new rod! Lukes fish... he wouldn't hold it but was very happy to catch it! Sorry bout the OOS smallie, but I thought it was to good of a picture not to post. Caught it while tryin for pike, with a 2 year old sleeping on my lap! lol After that we hit up some perch in Dan's spot... And the kids fell asleep on the ride home... So that was our fishing for May long weekend... Last Night I took the kids out for a couple hours of friday evening Crankbait fishing for Panfish... Luke just played in the fish cooler, but Averie and I caught a few rock bass, crappie, bluegill and some OOS largies and enjoyed an evening on the lake... Rock bass on the first cast... Nice dark Crappie.. Biggest Gill of the evening... Played on the dock and enjoyed a quiet lake before callin' it a night.. Thanks for checkin' out our report... on to house work and until next time! Cheers, Ryan, Averie and Luke

I'm about to do a fishing report but while I wait for my pix to upload to photobucket I wanted to post this. It's not a huge deal, but to Averie it is! She was VERY excited to see her picture on the front cover of the LPRCA's yearly mag they do up for all the parks with a few ad's in it! Cheers, Ryan

Have you tried RAM's actual website? I ordered a bunch of stuff directly from them last year. You just use a ram mount from them that allows you to screw or bolt the mount to the deck of your boat and to the motor.
