  1. This is what you're after. Great dbase, #'s, clips, locations, even strain that was stocked. http://www.glfc.org/fishstocking/index.htm
  2. FYI -- As soon as you put a motor on anything in Ontario you need your Operators Card, just in case anybody wasn't aware of that. I know a guy who takes his 'tooner out chasing rainbows and salmon out in Lake O, they're alot more stable than you'd think at first glance. He has a little Eagle on his, to hold the transducer he bolted PVC plumbing pipe to the frame and left one joint unglued. Very handy to swivel up & down launching or clearing crap hung up on it.
  3. River might still be a tad high & fast, should start dropping pretty good in the next couple of weeks and that's when the catfishing really turns on. Also, try to find livers still with blood in them. A real butcher shop should be able to hook you up. And don't be afraid to toss hardware if you get bored, there's A LOT of different species around Dunnville. Small white crankbait like a Big O is my fav, caught drum, cats, pickeral & even rainbows all in the same afternoon from pretty much the same spot. Never had much luck for cats near the dam, poke around a little further downstream to find holes you can reach from shore. And stop by Fishmasters shop, he'll point you in the right direction.
  4. There's always a few pike around the same harbours and piers you catch salmon off of. Caught a few out of the mouth of the Credit & Bronte. Ditto for bass and there's a ton of carp.
  5. Corn meal catfish fried in an iron pan on the bbq is my favourite eating fish, but that's more like a breading than a "batter" strictly speaking right? </batter nazi> I like Bisquik & beer seasoned with paprika (real Hungarian paprika plzkthx) & lemon pepper. But whichever mix you use remember the more bubbles the more flavour. Beer or club soda gets plenty of carbonation in the mix.
  6. Which yak is that, how'd it handle, wind, paddles like crud? Thinking of an inflatable belly boat as my fishing toy for this year but an inflatable yak would be interesting too. How small does it fold down?

  8. If it wasn't for the OFAH cobwebbing with Metro East Anglers there wouldn't be a single chinook salmon stocked in Lake Ontario west of Port Hope. But the OFAH has also drunk the Atlantic salmon KoolAid. I'm torn and confused whether I like them or not.
  9. I caught a fish, it may or may not be trout......could be a salmon, i'm not telling. There might have been more landed, possibly even more hooked, but I'm not saying. It could have caught in a Lake Ontario tributary, possibly not, but definitely in Ontario. Anyway thanks to the community for letting me share my fishing trip, tips up!
  10. Had to get the motorcycle out of storage with all the nice weather we've had this weekend, ended up stopping by most of S. shore trout spots. Those were probably rainbows at Pt.D, more of them being caught than browns. Action hit or miss, they're either active or not. Queenston was doing pretty good do, Fifty & Jordan were dead.
  11. If you take your ownership w/VIN# to a dealer they can make up a key for you without the car. Should be less than $10.
  12. Just going from the Guide To Eating Ontario Sportfish the Grand didn't seem THAT bad, atleast not as bad as that. Then again there used to be a sign in the men's room of the Fergus courthouse that read "Please Flush, Brantford Needs The Water". Either way small cats and pickeral are still tasty around Dunnville. As for the OP, most locals fish the dam for pickeral and there's a few there but the season is closed now, some trout but the fishing is better in the fall. In the summer there are a few bruiser carp that are always eager to pick up a bait in the slackwater. I always chuck a few casts in there when I make a butt run And just to make the world even smaller, A.H.&V 88-90, caught my first bass on a buzzbait in the pond just west of the airport, used to park with the girls at the turnarounds on the north side, and the name Darren Little seems a tad familiar, think we might have met a few of the same people at some of bush parties around then
  13. I'd be up for it, seeing as in the last few years the only fishing I've managed to get done is kings out of the canoe. Yaks I guess would be the central focus, but I'm assuming it would be open to all bob boats, paving the way for yak vs. canoe vs. float tube rumbles in the Timmies parking lot Huron tribs still have a big enough chinny run to support a tourney, especially the Maitland? Wouldn't want to see something like 20 entrants, but 3 fish entered. Would after dark be included, maybe as a special bonus class? Look forward to see this come off. And for all the doubters, most nights infront of Bronte or Credit I do better in the canoe than most boats during the day.
  14. Used dipsey's a few times behind a canoe for rivermouth salmon, only real problem is occasionally you feel like a one armed paper hanger. Hard to boat chinnies in a canoe when you have a 5'+ lead. I don't have a line counter reel either so depth control was of the "guess & by golly" type. Only fished infront of rivermouths where depth max is around 30'+, I'd just let out line until I started bumping bottom then crank it up a few feet. I only tried it after the sun had come up and the fish had gone deep making casting less effective, caught maybe five fish on them last season (opposed to the 50+ casting glo'eys after dark). Had more success using body baits than spoons (Mann 20+, FasTrac, XPS Minnow). Didn't have any problems tracking in a straight line. Basically works the same as trolling in a small boat, small GPS helps in keeping track of boat speed (vital!)
  15. The only non-detectable radar detector out there atm is a Bell STi. Everything else they will know what you have and they WILL tear your car apart to find it and take it out. Even if you're not speeding you WILL be stopped and you will not be let go until they have it. Any built in system will simply have parts snipped off it until it is no longer serviceable (eye in the grille, control head, nice quick way to lose $1k). Laser jammers are quasi legal, they are illegal to import, but not illegal to use (yeah I know, you figure it out). Radar jammers are totally illegal, user beware. A Bell STi will run you around $500-$600US, but if you put on alot of km in a year and the exorbitant fines we have in Ontario (highest in North America) they pay for themselves in one avoided stop.
  16. All the laws for photo radar are still on the books, just not currently being enforced. The legislation for red-light cameras are separate, but work the same. The owner of the vehicle is fined, but no points. The OPP don't pull people over for anything under 30-over, unless it's near the end of the month and they are short on "performance expectations". City traffic po-po will bust anything and everything. Jat, you're fine. It was a laser setup on a tripod you saw (they can zap you out past 2km with that), if you were paying attention you might've seen a few chase cars just past the bridge, usually parked on the onramps. If you weren't ticketed on the spot you aren't going to be.
  17. Q: Do you know why I pulled you over? Answers NOT to use: 1) You saw my out of state plates and wanted to wish me a safe and speedy trip? (NY State Troopers do not have a sense of humour, better not to try) 2) Revenue generation? 3) Hey if you think you could do that corner any quicker you're welcome to try, man I was on fire! Customs Booth: Do you have anything to declare? A: Yeah, could you hurry up please. The bald eagles in the back are starting to come down off their last speedball and they get REAL restless until we can score again.
  18. Planning on taking a bike camping trip along N. shore of Superior this spring, and was wondering what a decent time for spring chrome would be. Early or late May, or are there still some trout to be caught as late as June? Planning to tent it and play it by ear, but some general nudges towards rivers to check out or camping spots would be appreciated too.
  19. 100% legal If that's their own private pond with no moving water access
  20. Surprised nobody mentioned Glen Breton. Single malt, AND Canadian. It's not bad if you like mellow, less peaty whiskeys. My personal preference runs toward port barrel finished scotch, Glenmorangie and especially Balvenie port finished whiskeys.
  21. This is the same person that while Minster Of Transport refused to allow single passenger motorcycles into HOV lanes, on the grounds that she compared bikes to Smart Cars and Miatas. And then there is the fascist fiasco that is Bill 203. I'm not expecting much out of her, and apparently neither is her party seeing as how the MNR is the red-headed stepchild of cabinet posts. Face it, another 3 years of special interest boot licking and the accelerated decline of our outdoors was all but inevitable the heartbeat after she was shuffled.
  22. For day to day, there's a place in the States called JR Tobacco, great deals on non-Cubans. I like the Honduran Hoyo's in a double corona, there's another Honduran, Belinda which is a nice cheap churchill. For Cubans, Belinda coronas or Monty 4's. But on extra special days, Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona, THE most sublime cigar made. My dad has a few Opus X's I bought him a few years ago, and they were nice but not that special.
  23. Oh that's nice. As usual junk science and media hysteria win out. 2nd hand smoke (STS, ETS, et al) is a NUISANCE not a health risk. Seriously. Was I glib before, sure because there's little hope in trying to convince people already sunk so deep into the anti-smoking doublethink. In epidemiology - the branch of medicine that deals with the cause, spread, and control of disease - causal results come in numbers. Anything under the number 2 means there is NO casual relationship. Numbers 3 and 4 show mild casual relationship. Numbers 5 and 6 show a casual relationship. The number 7 is a certainty. Put simply, if I drank milk and were lactose intolerant, my risk for feeling sick would be 7 - a certainty. If I drank water, I could expect no harmful effects - 2 or under. On average the risk number for 2nd hand smoke comes in between 1.15 and 1.20. Anything under 2 does NOT register as a cause. Some studies even came in at slightly less than 1, which means second-hand smoke may actually prevent lung cancer in non-smokers. Anti-smoking propagandists have tried to suppress many of these studies. Over one hundred studies, taken together, show no cancer causing effects of second-hand smoke. There is a slight elevated risk between mothers who smoke in eutero and SIDS, but that is the ONLY harmful effect proven to harm children. At worst, 2nd hand smoke has been shown to excacerbate pre-existing illnesses but DOES NOT cause them. Sorry, but that's the truth. Here's a primer on debunking the sound bite junk science that is the driving force behind the behaviour control being forced on us more and more: The Facts Nuisances shouldn't be banned, nuisances being masked behind junk science and supporting intrusive gov't legislation into peoples personal space is down right fascist. Edit -- Btw TMZ.COM, I still hate the nuisances that are other peoples kids
  24. Alot of the fish infront of rivermouths have been hanging around for awhile now and really starting to turn dark. The darker they get the slower the action on spoons. Been getting one or two a day fishing Bronte dawn or dusk with something that rattles or wobbles. Rattle Spots, Canadian Wigglers and J-13's have been dinging more fish than spoons the last week. And there's still a good three weeks of salmon fishing left. Plus there's lot's of Coho's around.
  25. Unbelievable! Was anybody on the board there? I stopped by there after work around 4am Thurs night/Fri morn and there was an older guy fishing by the lighthouse, was that him? There's been some real chuckleheads down there this year. Drunk kids trying to make off with the life rings, some guy tried walking off with my bike jacket, but stealing a dying guys rod........that's just screwed up.
