  1. Seriously? CBC airs a piece about thousands of salmon at Bownmanville stuck below the damn, meanwhile, OP mentions a measly couple of 5 pounders 2 hours north of the GTA and you're worried? Methinks you worry too much.
  2. I actually find that even more offensive than the liability argument. I'm pro-business, believe me, but I don't believe that access to public lakes should be restricted in any way for the sole benefit of private business owners.
  3. I find this outrageous. Restricting access to public land and lakes is an example of government overreach. The "liability" argument is laughable. There are over 400,000 bodies of water in Ontario - Should government agencies block roads and destroy existing bridges to any areas that cannot be readily "policed" due to budgetary constraints? Remind me again who owns crown land?
  4. Sorry to hear about this. My condolences. From what I know about you while being here, I know for a FACT that your mom raised a fine human being -- I'm sure she is smiling down (as you read this)proud of her boy, no regrets. She lives on in you.
  5. RIP to both men who died. Tragic. I don't know all of the facts involved, none of us do, so I have mixed emotions. We don't know for certain which of these men, who by all accounts were good human beings, were in the wrong here. I caution those who would blindly support either individual to wait until the facts of this case are brought to public light. Police are not incapable of wrong-doing, nor are artists/politicians.
  6. I agree with tightline that locking this thread would be a shame. This is not only an interesting and relevant topic, but a very important issue for many people. IMO, you shouldn't shut down a conversation like this. There are ways to moderate a discussion without shutting it down, as seems to always be the case here. No disrespect intended, just an observation. I mean, Rick pointed out that this is the biggest fishing site in Canada, where over 35,000 people come every day to talk about fishing in Ontario! I think it's great that an unfolding story of local (and ultimately province-wide) public interest is getting this kind of exposure from both sides. Why bury it? We're seeing the politics at work that control our fishing resource. And we get to participate because of this forum. A+ for OFC!
  7. 28 views and only 1 vote. Guys, this is an anonymous poll.
  8. I had an interesting conversation with a large group of family and friends last night about 9/11. I was just curious to see what OFC thinks about the subject now that 8 years have past since the tragedy. Please vote for one of the two options in the poll that you lean more towards. I would like this thread to remain civil and not be locked due to bickering amongst the members, so please vote in the poll but don't trash the thread. Thanks.
  9. It's funny that you posted this. I have a family member who told me last night regarding Rice Lake [EDIT to make long story short] "The sunfish are smaller. They used to be massive" The average size of sunfish in Rice Lake have gotten smaller. Point conceded.
  10. Canada is currently up 3 - 0 on Norway in the men's curling gold medal game. If we hold on to win, we will tie for the most gold medals of any country in winter olympic history. (13 gold medals) That will tie Soviet Union who won 13 Gold medals in 1976 in Innsbruck, Austria and Norway with 13 gold in 2002, Salt Lake. If we then win tomorrow in hockey, Canada will set the new record for most gold medals in a winter olypic games with 14 gold medals. We have already shattered the record for most gold medals by a host nation previously 10 gold medals (US 2002 and Norway 1994)
  11. There is a tsunami wave moving at 500 Mph set to reach Hawaii in the next 10 minutes.
  12. LOL, you want to compare the international commercial cod fish industry to sunfish?
