  1. Power Pro with a good flouro leader. Best of both! On my everyday meatstick, I'm running 20lb Power Pro with 2'-3' of Seaguar 20lb flouro. Haven't changed the tippet since September, around 30 kings, dozen drum and half dozen pike and there's zero damage to the leader! Go Seaguar! Their leader mat'l is the shiznit, MUCH better than the mainline flouro's. Word of caution on the superbraids. There's zero stretch, so if you use small hooks for big fish it's real easy to rip them out. Tried using PowerPro once for river steelies, even with a 6lb. tippet and drag loose I kept ripping out hooks. I prefer using a swivel between leader/mainline, better connection and saves twist hassles. Ultra clear spooky fish though, I'll switch to a Surgeons Knot.
  2. Why use those over a Dipsy?
  3. I'm hoping for the Hammer Trifecta of catfish, carp & pike. Or petition for sheepshead to be eligible for the tourney
  4. Completely unrelated to the OP..........but I found a clip from the same flick as B-Ganoush's avatar. Lol funneh but NSFW http://www.maniacworld.com/strangest-gunfight-ever.html
  5. MNR runs Normandale and raises the majority of rainbow for Lake O, MEA/OFAH runs Ringwood and raises the majority of browns and all chinook stocked by Ontario into Lake O.
  6. Fun trying to land a big carp over the handrails there eh? P.S. Rumour has it at night there's a few big cats that come into that spot.
  7. Atleast there's no problems with the hatchery. #'s are already low, don't need to lose what few trout are still stocked in Lake O. And Ringwood might have the OFAH's name on it, but it's Metro East Anglers that do the majority of the work there.
  8. Yup, that sanctuary is FINALLY lifted this year (was a political move years ago by property owners). Used to be some decent bass fishing in that marsh, looking forward to seeing if that's still true. It's a little late for trout off the piers, but pike opens this weekend. There's a couple of dandy's around the marina.
  9. Gave it another shot today. Couldn't get a sniff from a pike, but apparently the sheepshead bite is on! Note to self, helpful passersby don't necessary make the best cameraman! Okay this ones a little better, biggest of the day. No esox, but anything that pulls is still better than nothing!
  10. I think he might be talking about the carp barrier Solo, wrong end! There's a small area on York Blvd. next to the bridge on the S side where you can park and walk down to the water, but there's two problems. 1) It's posted "No Parking", but everybody ignores it and parks there anyway. I've never seen anybody ticketed, but you never know. 2) If you are carrying alot of gear (dang high-tech carp fishermen!) it's a VERY steep, long walk. A better way is to park at Princess Point, there's a paved walkway out to the carp barrier. Bring a buggy or cart if you want to bring in alot of gear, it's around 600m walk. Kind of funny to get to: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&hl=en&a...040169&z=15 Carp fishing is just starting to warm up, still needs a few weeks before a few thousand carp pile in there.
  11. Heh, if nobody else catches anything bigger Team #4 is in really big trouble
  12. Okay, a little backstory 1st. I haven't really fished much in the last few years. Too lazy, burnt out, other responsibilities, other hobbies.........take your pick. Other than the fall salmon run which I still hit pretty hard, I hardly wet a line at all nowadays. Haven't caught a bass in two years, yup around 18 months without rigging up a weedless worm at all. Trout opener? I'd rather ride my motorcycle, too much bother to fit waders & float rod on a bike. But I'm starting to get the itch for a bent rod again, and after all the TO pike reports I was inspired. So instead of tearing around the escarpment annoying locals & providing the local constabulary a chance to fill their monthly quotas early I thought I'd dust off a rod and spend a few hours after work poking around for hungry post-spawn Hamilton pike. Wasn't expecting much (actually was expecting a skunk, but atleast it was nice out!), but I dug out Ol'Faithful and started casting. Probably my fav stickbait is a doctored Cordell Redfin. No waves, no ripples, no funky tiger colours, heck it might as well be 1986 but I've caught pretty much everything on it. Pike, smallmouth, used to be killer for spring browns by the Burlington Lift Bridge, even caught some chinooks on them in the fall. Good lure. So I start walking & casting. 1/2 hour in I had just muttered to myself that I'm not going to catch anything when *WHACK*...... Hey was that a weed? Rock? NO, that was a FISH!!!!! Shortstriking IQ challenged tapped it without getting hooked, dang! A few more casts, steady retrieve, long pauses, short pauses....little bugger wasn't getting fooled again. Okay, let's try something else. Remember when X-Raps first came out a few years ago? Newest, bestest, shiniest new lure. So like any good fisherman I trundled down to the tackle shop and picked up a few. Never caught a darn thing. Well not true, a single 2lb. pickeral two years ago on a spring canoe trip fishing for pike. Packed them away to the forgotten corner of the box and never used again. Well I dug one out and laid a cast where I was pretty sure there was a hungry pike. JERK...reel, JERK...reel, JERK...reel, can just barely see the lure now, hey let's check out the action, gee sure doesn't look like it wiggles much does it, yeah I don't think these work that gr.......*WHAMMMM!!!* Pike followed the lure in & inhaled it right infront me! A fish, an honest to gawd FISH! YEE HAW, GOT THE BUGGER! Good little scrap for a few minutes and a nice 30" pike came to hand. Took a little delicate surgery to get the Rap out of the back of his throat, quick show for the small throng of rollerbladers that are now stopped and amazed that anything other than carp & bullheads live in Hamilton Bay, and back he goes. Sorry, forgot to take a pic. Okay, now I'm jazzed. Ended up bagging three, another around the same size (around 30", bit over 5lb) and one wee hammer handle. All fish came on the same X-Rap. Atleast I remembered some pix. Seeing as how everybody is catching their personal best lately, my personal best fish caught on an X-Rap! Not bad for a few hours after work, ended up parking on a bench for a celebratory stogie watching the sun go down & listening to the birds. Heh, this fishing stuff can be fun.
  13. All the Oakville creeks are pretty much done, was a pretty crappy run this year for all the rivers in the west and most got blown out early with the warm snap before season opened. 16 Mile does get a good early fall run at the end of July every year, makes for fun pier fishing for a week.
  14. That's a carp scale, 100%. The gold part is the piece of the scale that's exposed, the opaque section is covered by overlapping scales.
  15. What's next? Banning outdoor bbq's in restaurants because vegetarians might find the smell unpleasant. Seriously. And you can still have sex on picnic tables.......just not with them. http://weirdnews.about.com/b/2008/03/29/th...c-table-sex.htm
  16. Until DVD makers pay DivX to change their codec so everybody needs to go out and buy new players For quick encoding I use ImToo AVI (similiar to AVI2DVD, only easier), if I want a higher quality movie with lots more options and editing features I use TMPG Plus. It is very slow however.
  17. Anybody going to be selling "previously enjoyed" boats?
  18. When are you going? Been meaning to check out the shorefishing by Fishmasters.
  19. Are there any links or maps showing the different access points? I've only ever fished the Whirlpool and know how to get to the Queenston launch, but nowhere else.
  20. Nope, on Lake O most on the west side are (Bronte, Credit, Humber), but G'Bay is a different story. Pretty, Beaver & Coldwater are not. Even if it is navigable you have to stay below the highwater line or are trespassing (i.e. portaging around dams).
  21. Only if it's classified as "navigable", and there are alot of properties that do have the stream bed as part of the deed up those parts (a friend of the family is one of them). You can't just go wading willy nilly in every river in Ontario, which what alot of people wrongly believe.
  22. Lol damn, it's not even salmon season and already we're on a lining rant post! Yes, using a marshmallow off bottom at a rivermouth or in a pool for salmon or trout you are lining fish. No, the majority of fish are not "striking" your bait but being unintentionally hooked. Swap your marshmallow out for anything else that floats and you'll hook into the same #'s of fish, probably more because an ear plug doesn't melt and floats higher. Yes, lining is the same as snagging ethically, but in the eyes of the law if you snag them in the mouth area it is perfectly legal. Although relying on lining you will snag some fish in non-legal areas, especially true if you are fishing pools and not rivermouths. That's it, there's no denying those points. You can switch up the presentation and catch the odd steel on a marshmallow under a float if you wanted (while occasionally stubborn they're not exactly bright), but there's more productive baits to use. GreenCoachDog- Your "po-boy vs. The Man" argument isn't going to fly. This isn't the dew worm vs. perfectly tied hackle, it's about stream trash who plunks down in the middle of a pool and starts foul hooking everything in sight, screwing up the fishing for everybody that knows what they're doing.
  23. Nice, always wanted to try that when I used to fish steel alot. Any landowners give you flak?
