ok so I'm not the only one waiting to see if things have improved or there's nothing new under the sun

I like a big white spinnerbait with a big ol twister tail dancing around behind it and I will also suggest a super shadrap in perch flavour. Not the biggest bait but a good place to start. Trolls well, not too heavy to cast and scars up really well when muskies chomp down on it!

ouch. I've never heard anything good so I hope things work out better for you. Please let us know how it goes, hopefully they can repair their reputation. When they say the huts are 1 km out perhaps they mean 1 km out from their house, putting the hut 12 feet from the edge of the lake .

if you're going with a minnow you will definitely want a leader! Pike are stupid or they are blind or both. I catch annoying amounts of pike using leaders and from much heavier pressured waters than where you're talking.

advice: put the leader back on. Once you get it figured out and the fish start biting you will lose lures and pike may die without one.

that perch is a brute! Nice pike too. Amazing that you've got 6 inches of ice that close to the edge. I remember once when we were young and foolish, standing at the edge and casting into open water. That day made me wonder how you can ever break through the ice. We couldn't do it for trying!

Good call Cliff. There's a spot I want to fish next week-end, I went first thing this morning to have a look...open water. Wouldn't surprise me one bit after the next 2 days its frozen next week-end, so I wanted to see today where it was at. Definitely not going there next Saturday!

ya this stuff is scary. Guys who don't know it was open 2 days ago will be in for a dangerous surprise

I just bought a Coleman Stove this past summer and was going to use it to heat my portable ice hut. I'll admit the thought of CO poisoning crossed my mind, unfortunately with minimal ice around I haven't tested it out!

I wonder what the regs say? I'm sure it gives a distance (ie must be within 50 feet) but does it say how alert you must be?
