  1. nice fish! I have a 13 year old and we use his arms as pipe cleaners
  2. turns out blowing up a reel is a real thing. When I first started salmon fishing a few years back I bought a couple cheap combos to get in the game. Had a big king on - long fight with lots of runs, the first run took hundreds of feet of line. Beside the boat it took one more run, the drag failed and the line snapped. The drag had totally seized up so I took reel apart to discover it had basically melted on the inside. Live and learn.
  3. i bought a couple Okuma Coldwaters as they came recommended by a musky guide on St. C. Run one with with braid for a dipsy and run one with mono for a downrigger when I use them for salmon. When musky fishing the braid one will be a down rod and the mono one will be off planer
  4. full send. That is a long day
  5. I remember when you kept getting skunked a couple years back. Glad to see you are figuring it out! Can be lots of fun out there.
  6. if that 2nd pic was recently taken how in the world is that red tinny still afloat! Good luck finding someone to talk about this place, I hope you succeed.
  7. not for me. Don't eat fish (or have a smoker)
  8. since lake o is a shorter drive for me will just stick with that! Good luck out there let us know how you do
  9. is the summer fishing pretty reliable up there? I started in to the salmon/trout thing a few years back (4?) but have only done Lake O. By no means an expert but have had success of some sort almost every time on the water. Lake O as it turns out is a great fishery. Is GB/Huron as reliable? My guess is it would be a tougher spot to try and figure things out.
  10. cool nights keeping water temps down I guess. Means my AC is getting a break though!
  11. Wow. ok mark off Duck Lake on the list of places not to go. I feel your pain though. Last year we vacationed on a small lake near Burk's Falls called Jack's Lake and the fishing was very tough. UGGG the family enjoyed the resort and scenery so we are going back this year. Not looking forward to the fishing. Hope someone can give you some help
  12. Thanks for the update. We had friends at Balsam last week they also found the fishing very slow.
  13. haha those are neat. I would eat one
  14. Welcome samsquatch and good luck on your search
  15. uggg. so sad to hear "chasing pike" on Balsam. I used to love Balsam for musky but since we moved from Barrie 10 years ago it is no longer a destination for me. I imagine the musky population is suffering by now, but i hope I am wrong.
  16. where did you end up and how did it go?
  17. Have not fished there but good luck! I would imagine it is tea colour lake, most of them up that way are
  18. I have caught many walleye on 8 to 12 inch musky baits. Most of the walleye have been in the 6 to 8 lb range, but the occasional smaller one
  19. the mighty sheephead saves another day. Nice to reconnect after so many years
  20. I have never fished Cameron but there are several launches on Balsam. I think there is at least one launch in the narrows between the 2 lakes if I remember correctly
  21. I am impressed you guys take a shower. I have a friend who doesn't even brush his teeth when we go for a couple days.
  22. I used to have a camera...problem was I spent more time floating down the niagara looking for musky than actually fishing. Was quite fascinating.
  23. beer? If you have enough beer it will help you not worry about other things you may have left behind.
  24. some of these motors also have a thermostat. I thought I had a problem once because mine wasn't peeing out either...waited around 30 seconds and it started. That was in some cold conditions, gotta admit I was very nervous letting it run those 30 seconds!
