  1. I plan to go ice fishing Monday around Hanover. just looked at the forecast and they are supposed to get a foot of snow or more between now and then so all is not lost. Still time for a few good dumpings.
  2. staged or not i did watch the whole thing! Hope to never find myself in that predicament. I did go to youtube to read the comments...they say not staged. Claim ice was good in the morning and got worse as the day progressed. Not sure I believe that , that ice was really bad. Not convinced "good ice" can turn to that in the course of a day.
  3. I am wondering the same. Maybe he had someone nearby to rescue him if he started to fail?? Its not like he fell through in some unique weak spot. None of that ice could support him. There is no way you could go on that ice and not expect to fall in. It's either staged or that guy is suicidal but then changed his mind.
  4. That sounds like fun! I could never get my kids to fish more than about 4 hours at a time so don't see anything like this in my future. Hope you find a spot and create some amazing memories with your kids
  5. fishing trips sometimes aren't about fishing and thats ok ...ain't that the truth. I remember Roy at Lakair not even putting his boat in the water!
  6. that's a real mixed bag! Nice job
  7. been there done that
  8. Doesn't sound anything like that "What does the fox say" song but sure looks like a (healthy) fox to me
  9. impressive! And what a way to get there too. Dedication.
  10. It funny. I will endure sleet and winds and pure nastiness in December to get a shot at a musky. Call it a success if I get one fishing from first light to darkness. Two weeks later and I will only ice fish on nice days, from 10 am to 2 pm and in a spot that will produces constant action. We fisherman can be odd.
  11. interesting thought. Almost all of my catches through the ice are very mediocre. I think this is because I choose numbers lakes when it comes to ice fishing. A friend did take me out once to a different spot and I caught my pb walleye. 30 inches long and massively fat. Was probably 12-14 lbs. Other than that one fish I can't recall anything extraordinary
  12. No clue about this Starlink business, but we were on dialup until 10 years ago so I can appreciate what you go through
  13. Nice! congrats and have a Happy Bday
  14. Twenty years ago I used to fish the upper Niagara quite a bit for muskies. Once I bought the camera I found I spent more time just drifting down the river looking at stuff, the fishing actually suffered because I was too focused on raising and lowering camera and sticking my head in close to the screen. Was fun for a few trips but since I put it away I catch a lot more. Last year ice fishing we brought it along because we took some kids with...kept them busy just like it used to keep me busy!
  15. ...thankful I have friends with shops
  16. This is a great idea. We usually fish in only 10 fow I would think this would be a clear way to watch what is going on. I bought a camera years ago when they first came out, finally cracked it out again last year thru the ice and still worked. May try the straight down the whole thing this year
  17. What are you hoping to catch? And is it just for day use or overnight?
  18. oh and for seals etc...I just go to the local marina, tell them the make/model/year and they look it up for me and sell them right on the spot. They are like a buck or two each Good to support the local guy in some way. Buy the oils and filters there too (instead of the big box shops)
  19. no clue on manual purchase. My method of motor maintenance is do the simple stuff myself (ie lower unit oil, engine oil/filter) and anything that requires a manual I leave to the marina or the kind folks on this board. Thankfully, the last 2 engines I have owned on my "main boat" have both been amazing. Only ever brought them in for impeller changes (and even that maintenance I have been tempted to do myself...lots of stuff on youtube can walk you right through it)
  20. very nice!
  21. That's a beauty haul
  22. neat! congratulations
  23. well we went for it and it worked out fine. Winds were maybe less than predicted and very fisheable. Water temps were 36 degrees and we caught two, lost one more. We only saw one other fish get caught by the 7 or 8 boats fishing the same area. Nothing huge. Sorry to hijack the thread but figured you would like to know! Caught ours casting rather than trolling.
  24. been trying to get there all fall and keep getting re-routed due to winds. This time we are going for it. Its a huge wind but we are on the south shore and its a south wind so we will see. Worst case scenario we go to the Thames instead...but man I hate the Thames.
