  1. Only fished pigeon once, but I can picture the island you're talking about. Can't blame the people for selling/developing it. Hard to argue with 5 million. I tell you right now I'd sell it in a heartbeat, buy myself an awesome spot on a private lake (where I own all the shoreline!) and still have a few million in the bank.
  2. we just have a propane fireplace, no ductwork because the cottage is only 700 sq feet. No problem for us, other than the bedrooms are pretty cold and the loft is boiling! For the few times a winter we use it we find that to be adequate.
  3. wow, very sad stuff. Sounds like a case of wrong place at the wrong time.
  4. look at the dorsal fin on that thing...you could fly it like a kite (probably light enough too )
  5. thanks skeeter. Doesn't look worth the line-ups/hassles of Boxing Day crowds for me
  6. nice fish. I would get my butt kicked so hard for even considering fishing on Christmas!
  7. some of these fireman who work the 7 shifts a month (i think that's how many it is) have worked with me on the side because they have so much spare time. At least the ones I have met are NOT exercising or waxing the truck at 3 a.m.! They sleep. And they are clearly motivated people because they have a 2nd job on their days off! Personally, I would not want someone trying to save my family if they've been up over 24 hours. I fail to see any advantage to this system, other than the employee who gets to sleep on the job and have 20-something days off a month. Due to the risk of the job they should definitely be compensated well, but doesn't being awake more than 24 hours make a risky job even more risky?
  8. ...no fish out there anyways. Not many people at the marina this year either. Looks like they locked the gates
  9. Rudolph the RNRD...love that dang Bumble. Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
  10. no ice on kempenfelt bay as far as I could see from 7th line of oro
  11. fantastic Lew! I didn't read all the replies so forgive me if I'm redundant...but you'll never be able to read a post like this one because you'll probably be on dial-up! We moved to the country 2 years ago and love it...but I have to open pic heavy posts like this at work (sh...don't tell the boss). Anyways, congrats to you and Diane, I hope you have many happy years there. And your posts after February will probably involve only 1 photo!
  12. nice to see more women out there buying fishing boats. Let me know if you find any fuzzy covers for the steering wheel :D
  13. Wayne you're on fire. Too funny
  14. haha...hilarious. Plus you have provided me with an excellent idea. Just wish there was more water around when you need it
  15. methinks you might have borrowed a golfing joke and converted most of it to fishing...funny none the less
  16. when I saw the title of this thread I figured you were going to say it was powered by a 25 or 30. 40 isn't bad! I don't know the model you're talking about, but if its a heavy boat (wide? console? hull?) you may still need more than 40. If its a "smaller" boat you should be ok. I have a fairly light 16 foot princecraft with a 50 and it moves pretty good.
  17. bigger house with soundproof walls (I have 3 very noisy little boys)
  18. I have been saying that for years! never happens
  19. Agreed. The niagara has been very stingy to me this fall and I was hoping for one last shot. If the weatherman was wrong I'll be there, but all forecasts point to some big winds the next few days.
  20. good to hear you're back safely. Any other boats out there today?
  21. just a bit of an update. I was on the upper this past saturday. Water wasn't quite chocolate milk, but wasn't great either. Visibility was around 18 inches when we started, and about 2 feet by the end of the day. I'm going to keep an eye on the winds for Wed, Thurs, Fri before making my final decision about making the drive from Barrie. Right now its not looking too good unfortunately.
  22. the last owners had big minnows too, but only in the summer (when I didn't want them). Hopefully new owners will have decent sized pike bait in the winter
  23. Good stuff. Glad to hear it stayed as a fishing shop. I know "Sweet Lou" could rub some people the wrong way but I never actually had a problem with him. Happy to continue supporting the local retailer. If they only add a musky section and keep some bigger minnows through the winter I could really support them!
  24. actually caught a loon once up at the cottage. Hit a minnow under a float. Lots of snapping turtles, one water snake and a giant frog on a hula popper in the lily pads!
